AVFTG: A(nother) Triple Crown Failure

Big race? Check. Did I attend? Check. AVFTG installment? CHECK.

Pedigree Profile: Tonalist

A Clement that runs (and runs) on the dirt!?! Say it isn't so!

He can wear the nasal strip.

Can we stop talking about this now? Great. Thanks.

Pedigree Profile: Social Inclusion

He missed out on the Derby, but can he make amends in Baltimore?

Kentucky Derby 2014: The Aftermath

What do we know now?

Hoppertunity Scratched from Derby

Trainer Bob Baffert cites "foot bruise". Colt is fine, but headed to Rood & Riddle for full work up just to be safe. Pablo Del Monte draws in.

Pedigree Profile: General a Rod

Can he win? Heck, can he beat Wildcat Red?

Pedigree Profile: Ride on Curlin

Does Billy Gowan have himself a Derby winner?

Pedigree Profile: Wildcat Red

Can he get the distance? Can he win the Derby from the front?

Pedigree Profile: Samraat

(NY) doesn't equal second rate anymore.

Pedigree Profile: Danza

Who? is the boss, that is.

It's Triple Crown Season!

My annual re-post of the greatest Triple Crown performance ever.

Pedigree Profile: California Chrome

Can you believe that the owners of California Chrome have 2 FULL SISTERS ON THE FARM! That's just straight money in the bank.

Stronach takes huge step forward in medication regulation

Frank Stronach announced Wednesday that all Stronach-owned racetracks will have an in-house "strictly regulated pharmacy" and will prohibit "anyone from having any medications in their possession unless those medications have been properly prescribed for a therapeutic treatment program." In addition, there will be automatic drug testing for all horses who ship in to race.

Cleaning up Racing

There's lots of negativity around our sport right now, so let's examine my ways to make some drastic changes to increase accountability and to demand transparency.

Pedigree Profile: Toast of New York

The biggest question of his career thus far looms like a, like an, like, heck, I'm no poet: Will he like dirt?

Beyer: Keep it simple

Great piece by Andy Beyer in the DRF. I completely agree about the conditions. Being able to compare conditions nowadays is almost impossible, with the Optional Claiming ranks convoluting it. I am of the opinion that you shouldn't see OC anywhere but at the $75k and up price tag where you are actually mixing the top end claimers with the lower achieving allowance runners. The OC16 is ridiculous.

The End of the Synthetic Track Era

Don't cry for me plastic race track!

KY Derby Victors and Their Stakes Races

First maidens, now stakes. Looks like I've finally decided to contribute again!

KY Derby Victors and Maiden Breakers

Does it matter? Is there a correlation?

Pedigree Profile: Candy Boy

Gary Stevens likes him and so should you.

Caixa Electronica involved in fatal collision

A horrible story from Belmont this morning.

Great story on Wildcat Heir

One of those great stories that you've (and me) have never heard of.

After Market Sold to Turkey

The 10-year old son of Storm Cat will move from Lane's End to Istanbul. So here come the string of big winners for him, right?

AGSC's Stakes Changes in 2013

There are still too many 2yo G1s, but some other good changes were made. The short of it is: Ups: La Troienne (G2 to G1) Azeri (G3 to G2) Sabin (G3 to G2) Holy Bull (G3 to G2) Swale (G3 to G2) CT Oaks (New G3) Torrey Pines (New G3) LA Woman (New G3) Downs: Prioriess (G1 to G2) Princess Rooney (G1 to G2) Go For Wand (G2 to G3) Santa Barbara Handicap (G2 to G3) Vagrancy (G2 to G3) Dwyer (G2 to G3) Sanford (G2 to G3) La Jolla (G2 to G3) Hutcheson (G2 to G3) Sapling (G3 to none) Ohio Derby (G3 to none) All fine changes, I think. Maybe only the Prioress downgrade can be questioned.
