Versus off of DirecTV

The deadline to make a deal between Versus and DirecTV has passed and Versus is no longer apart of DirecTV. The issue here is that Versus is owned by Comcast which is a competitor of DirecTV. DirecTV says the ratings are too low for the price they are paying for Versus. This is similar to the standoff the Big Ten Network had. The network shows NHL, College football and the WEC. This is will suck big time if a deal is never made because the Stanley Cup playoffs are shown on Versus. Hopefully a deal can be made quickly.

Heres the link to the article.

One week into the season and i thought it would be interesting to keep tabs on how Bradley's season goes compared to the other options the Cubs had to sign in the off seaon, namely Adam Dunn and Bobby Abreu. All bat left handed and could play right field.

Bradley signed a 3yr 30 mil
Dunn signed a 2yr 20 mil with the Nationals
Abreu signed a 1 yr 5 mil with the Angels.

While i favored signing Dunn with the option of trading DLee, many liked the Bradley signing because of his career year with the Rangers. Abreu never seemed like an option but after the deal he signed with the Angels, it would have certainly been a bargain compared to what the Cubs signed Bradley for or would have signed Dunn for.

Numbers after the first week.
Bradley- Hits: 1 Runs: 3 HR:1 RBI: 1 Avg: .059 OBP: 370
Dunn- Hits:8 Runs: 4 HR: 2 RBI: 8 Avg: .333 OBP: 571
Abreu- Hits: 7 Runs: 1 HR:0 RBI: 6 Avg: .292 OBP: 333

Also Bradley left Sunday's game early because of tightness in his quad. Of course nobody should be surprised because of his history of injuries. Clearly you can't say if the Cubs made the correct signing yet but it will be interesting to see where this heads. Ill updated the numbers as we go along. Also if anyone thinks another player should be added that they could have signed or played in right field let me know and ill add their numbers.

Kerry Wood speaks on being let go

Here's the link to Paul Sullivan's article:

http://blogs.chicagosports.chicagotribune.com/sports_hardball/2008/11/wood-leaving-cu.html

I am very confused with Jim Hendry right now. Yesterday I assumed Kerry didn't want to return to the Cubs for a 1 yr deal or something at a low price but clearly he would have. Why on earth are we letting Wood just walk away without even offering him a contract? Hendry looking out for his best interest and his family? Please let Kerry worry about his family. It's not like a million dollar contract is hard to feed you're family off of. This just upsets me so much. I know we have Marmol as a closer but Wood could have been perfect as an 8th inning guy. So far I am not looking forward to next season at all.

Mark Derosa Blogs after Game 2

Not sure if this has been posted yet but there has been a ton of fan posts today. Here is what Mark has to say.

"You've got to let this flow over you and consume you for a couple hours. You have to. "Z" was pitching a great game, he's feeling good, the double play gets turned, we go back into the dugout and the whole game is different. Our offense is able to relax and it's different.

But when you find yourself down 5-0, a team that has a 1-0 lead in the series, they're able to relax, Billingsley is able to pound the strike zone, their hitters are a lot more patient, a lot more calm. They're trying to have good at-bats and tack on runs. We're trying to press to get the score tied and take the lead. For me, this is terrible. I don't know -- I'll be up for awhile tonight."

http://markderosa.mlblogs.com/

Check out the time stamp on the post too. Must have been a late night.

I do feel for him though. One of his best season ever and he might only remember botching a double play. Saturday is the time to make up for all of this. Let's go CUBS!

Question about home games on Sundays

Ive always wondered how fans are selected to go onto the field during Sunday home games during the season. Where they get to go out to a players position and have them sign a ball right before the first pitch. I always thought that was cool and wondered if anyone here has ever gotten picked. and if so do you get to choose what position/player you get the autograph from?
