Is Andy after a multi year contract?

According to statements on the Yankees home page Andy is looking to pitch well beyond next year.

If he had just exercised his option he'd have gotten 1 more year, now he might be asking for 3-4 more years. Could that be the reason he opted out? If so how will the Yankees respond to a request for a 4 year contract? Carrying Andy for 1 year at $16m is one thing, $60/4 is something different...

I think it is great to have Andy back for 2 years, 3-4 is something different though?

The future for Clemens

I doubt anyone will ever pay the kind of moeny needed to get him back onto the mound, but...

The guy seems incapable of staying away, he'll be back in baseball in another capacity, but which one?

Pitching coach, management, or even owner?

Do people think he'd be a good pitching coach? Everyone is saying he has a good influence on the other pitchers on the staff, but is that by leading by example or does he actually know enough to help improve their technique and mechanics? Does anyone know?

Frontpaged by jscape2000

What happened?

Our starting made Brown, Vasquez, Weaver, Loaiza seem like star pitchers...

We got a total of 14.1 innings from our starters, not counting Pettitte we got 2.2 innings per starter!

Don't blame the offense! Against the Cy Young of the year the offense chased him after 5 innings and got 3 runs of him... Any time you get 3 runs in the post season against a future Cy Young winner that is good and with our own ace on the mound that is a game we should have won!

So really, game 2 was very weak but remember Carmona pitched exceptionally well - such things happened and esepcially in the post season. (Still thanks to Andy we almost won)

In game 3 and 4 we got 8 runs and 4 runs, we chased the starting pitcher after 5 innings. That should be good enough to win in the post season.

Starting pitching was what put us in the 21-29 hole in April and May, starting pitching lost us the ALDS. Don't moan about the offense

Booing? Fine if the time is right...

What is wrong with booing if it is justified? What is wrong with saying that someone's job is on the line if you lose?

Honestly I think booing Roger Clemens last night was fine...

I think the Boss didn't say anything that wasn't obvious to everyone, including Joe, the players, the fan and the media.

Anyone who thinks the opposite is softer at heart than any Yankees fan should be because teh Yankees are all about winning and not about smoothing over uncomfortable truths.

Roger Clemens came back at the age of 45 and said I can be worth $28m for a season, I can pitch in teh post season and I can win it for you guys. That is quite an ego there and there is nothing wrong with that as long as you deliver. But if you hold out that you are worth $28m and then deliver what Roger has done this season you deserve to be booed. You put yourself in taht position. If he instead had said "give me $1m/year but if I deliver give me incentive bonuses that bring it to $30m" he shouldn't have been booed for trying.

If it had been Mussina being booed that would have been wrong. The money we are paying him is part of the deal we did in 2001 and whether we like it or not that has been a fair deal.

Booing A-Rod this post season is ridicolous because this year he has delivered the goods and has been worth all his $27m and more, he was as good as he and Scott Boars held him out to be 7 years ago...

Roger Clemens said "I'm still great and I'm worth $28m" so booing him is fair game

That is why I think booing Farnsworth is fair game but booing Edwar isn't.

As regards the Boss? Everyone talks about how hard it is to manage in Bronx but the Boss has bought Joe so many toys, so many 200 game winners, so many All Stars look at the line up!

Joe has always know that if you don't win it all in October it is a failure. If you sign up for that you know the score - nothing wrong with it...

Assuming we lose to the Indians we will have lost 5 of the last 6 post season series. That is not what you pay $200m to get,Joe knows that, Joe know he has been a failure given the premise when he signed up for.

Think of it this way, if we here at Pinstripe Alley are unhappy when we are about to lose, imagine how the Boss feels. He has every right to complain and I don't think it made the team any weaker. Probably didn't make the team any stronger either, but at least the old man got a chance to voice his frustration. I think he deserves that

YES for sale

according to Fortune YES is for sale see the link below:

http://money.cnn.com/2007/08/01/news/companies/yes_sale.fortune/index.htm

I guess given a $3-3.5bn price for YES George can afford the $200m/year payroll. Honestly if they sell YES where does that leave the team, most likely for sale as well the day George dies.

So what does Yankees post George compete? $200m per year will certainly be out of teh question. Will we get back to world were going to the post season is a major success?
