Missouri: Least Offensive State in the NFL (aka - A Terrible, Terrible Stat)
Sorting the team stats by points scored per game, I noticed something so bad, it's almost funny. Almost.
If you combine the two Missouri teams' (KC ranked 31st, STL ranked 32nd) in points scored per game from the 2011 regular season, they'd still only rank 6th just behind the Chargers, and still almost 10PPG behind GB.
Ouch, baby. Very ouch.
D Line Help: Consider Sammie Lee Hill
He's a RFA on the Lions. He's going into his 4th season, and has seemingly progressed very well (the oft-mentioned 3 year learning curve for D Line). But he's behind Suh and Williams at DT for the Lions. What are the thoughts on this guy coming in for DT or even DE if we plan to move on from Dorsey? And he was drafted in the 4th round, and is currently on his RFA Original Pick Tender. Anyone more knowledgeable than I about the workings of RFA know what we'd have to realistically have to give up to get him? Good idea / bad idea?
Safety Depth: Melvin Bullitt
This guy used to be really solid for the Colts. He missed all but 2 games last year, and a few games in 2010, due to a shoulder injury. But he's 27 and really talented, and was very productive before he got banged up. I think it may be worth a flyer to get him on the cheap, as talented and knowledgeable (albeit fragile) depth. Agree / Disagree?
Just because a couple people have said that Hillis fumbles too much, here are some numbers
For his career Hillis has 512 rushing attempts and 101 receptions (613 total touches), with 11 total fumbles (7 lost) Jamaal Charles has 499 rushing attempts with 117 receptions (616 total touches) with 10 total fumbles (8 lost). There's the data, draw your own conclusions.
Adam Schefter @AdamSchefter
Those interested in a Pro-Bowl guard. RT @15miller: Carl Nicks said new contract has to be more than teammate J Evans $56.7 M dollar deal.
Packers OC Philbin Son Found Dead In River
Oh wow. That's pretty horrible.
Kendrick Lewis is Redeeming Himself
#23 is showing much improved tackling form, and looks like he's shaking his tendency for arm tackling / high tackling and getting shrugged off. He's hitting low, hitting hard, and stripping the ball. This is the tackling I've been hoping to see from our starting FS. It took til week 17 , but now we know he can do it. Nice looking improvement, Kendrick. I've been critical of the guy on this issue most of this year (and last). But credit where it's due, his tackling form is looking far far better right now.
The Amon Gordon Appreciation Thread
It's easy to get lost in the shuffle of all the QBOTF, Haley and Pioli, and future draft talks that go on around here. I just wanted a quick nod of recognition to Amon Gordon. The guy has been a solid pickup for us, and exactly what we needed in a rotational / depth guy for NT / DE. I think he's more than pulled his weight and should honestly be threatening Dorsey for a starting spot at this pace. Well done, Amon. I'm glad we have you.

Shoulda / Woulda / Coulda - Jamaal Charles' stat line for this year
Just looking at the team's stats and JC's injury seems so far removed at this point, it sometimes feels like it was a year ago with the way this season has gone. But he still has stats logged for this season, and they're 12 rushing attempts for 83 yards with a 6.9 average. Yeah, he was off to a 6.9 average per carry start. Alright, I'm done wallowing in pity now. SMH, AP
The Ripple Effect
My fellow Chiefians. Chiefanese? Chieftonites?
This is a very turbulent time for our favorite team. Things have taken a very chaotic turn this season, beginning with the early blowouts, subsequent turnaround and most recent collapse. These goings on have left a bevy of questions, many of those without any clear-cut answers. There are, however, more issues created by this turbulence that aren’t so easily seen at first glance.
At a time when our organization has done well to finally start attracting free agents and re-signing top talent, the uncertainty that comes with a potential losing season, questions about whether or not the head coach will return, a shaky offensive coordinator track record, and a tenuous at best quarterback situation – we may be seeing seeds sown that will have long term negative effects for our Chiefs.

Next April - And Why We Possibly Still Have A Ton Of Cap Space
Alright, a different angle on things here. Apparently nobody is going to stop talking about Luck. So how about this - we have tons of cap space that people keep complaining about. What if Pioli intends to get Luck - no matter the cost in draft picks. We finish wherever we finish, and sell the farm to trade up for Luck next April. The big caveat in all this is that we spend big in next year's free agency to fill holes that might have otherwise gone to draft picks - because we'll have all that cap space to do it. So we still plug holes all over the roster, AND, get the QBOTF. Madness? Maybe?

Offense: We Need Finishers
Against the Vikes this week we were 0-3 in red zone efficiency and 6-15 on 3rd downs. Third down efficiency did improve, but needs to get better. But the real gripe is in the red zone. We have to finish. Whether it's completing a pass under pressure, O Line opening running lanes or boneheaded penalties pushing us back - it absolutely has to improve for us to stay competitive. Any AP'ers have additional insight into what's going wrong, and what can fix it?
The Official Cassel-Bashing Thread!
I've actually teetered on the edge of taking off lately. There's so much anti-Cassel vitriol on AP, I was actually trying to figure out how to delete my account earlier just so I wouldn't give in to the temptation to keep coming back here and hoping against hope to see a real discussion not devolving into that. (I failed, btw - no idea how to delete an account of it's even possible still). So instead I present the Official (not at all endorsed by anyone but me) Cassel-Bashing Thread. Dear AP'ers, if you're reading an article that has nothing at all to do with KCQB#7 and you feel for some reason compelled to derail the discussion into Cassel-bashing yet again, I urge you to come here and vent out whatever you need to say - leaving the other discussions not about MC to remain on topic. So have at it! I encourage the mods to provide amnesty to Cassel-bashers in this thread and this thread alone for spilling their absolute worst about the guy, in hopes that none of it filters into threads not remotely related to the guy. (apologies if mods feel this is a bad idea and want to delete it, I'd just like to see some discussions stay on topic for a change)

Our last three games that actually count have been lost by a total of 106-41
This isn't good, Chiefs Nation. Have opponents figured us out? Were we getting by on fortunate matchups and schtick last year, and now opponents know how to handle our one trick pony? Is this just a slump / skid / and we'll right the ship sooner rather than later and be back to playing watchable football again? I'm usually very optimistic, but it's hard to say right now if this is a statistical anomaly or if there are some huge underlying issues - deeper than just Cassel.
Sticking point for the week - 3rd down conversions
KC was 3-13 on 3rd downs today vs BUF. That's an abymsal 23%. The thing that was a thorn in our side last year when everything else was going pretty well cannot continue to be so bad when other cogs in the machine aren't clicking so well. This needs to get fixed soon or we're going to have a long season.
2010 Kansas City Chiefs Analysis: The Chiefs have no sense of direction right now. Their overpaid quarterback is terrible; the offensive line can't block; the defensive line is the league's worst; the pass rush doesn't exist; and the head coach is mind-numbingly clueless. Kansas City is easily one of the worst teams in the NFL, and because general manager Scott Pioli has dug this franchise into such a deep hole, it doesn't look like things will improve anytime soon.
Projection: 3-13 (4th in AFC West)
Putting an end to the Matt Light in KC talk
And the wheels on the FA bus go round and round.
To Chris Chambers or not to Chris Chambers
It's 1:15am, I have comp time saved up - and teams can start signing free agents officially tomorrow (technically later today, but I haven't slept yet so it doesn't count). I'm so going to Chris Chambers out of work tomorrow and just follow the craziness.
Gilberry92 Wallace Gilberry
I can say this you guys make some good points and I know if I was going to war I know who I want on my side #chiefsnation without a doubt..

Marc Mariani - My Biggest Concern for us Sunday
Our coverage unit's effectiveness has really tapered off over the last several weeks. We've been giving up some better field position than we should.
Mariani is a very good return man, and the Titan's return team is pretty good. We can't afford to give up a short field for these guys.
**EDITED Title - wanting it to get here already**
How will we (attempt to) contain Mike Tolbert?
After this past game vs DEN, it's become readily apparent to me that our defense, while pretty good over all, isn't elite. To stop one aspect of a high powered offense like San Diego's, we're going to have to sell out. And I'm guessing we sell out to stop Rivers and the passing game, which is the obvious choice. But if Moreno could gash us like he did, with missed tackles contributing to his performance. How on Earth will we keep the human bowling ball Mike Tolbert under wraps? He breaks tackles from great tackling defenses. We're pretty middle of the road there. Will DJ and Jovan step up and have noteworthy games? They'll have to if we plan on not getting killed by built-like-a-fire-hydrant Mike Tolbert while we're sitting back in pass coverage like I'm sure we will be.
At last they realize it.

Cough cough cough (reaching for the nyquil)
2nd in the NFL in Fumbles Forced
Who knew?
Our defense is tied for second overall in the NFL with 7 forced fumbles through the first half of the season.
Congrats on the win, Raiders Nation
Congrats on a tough, ugly, hard-fought and well-deserved win, Raiders fans. You punched us in the chin this weekend. We'll return the favor later on at Arrowhead. As much as I loathe the Raiders, I'm glad to see you guys turning the corner. It's time to keep DEN and SD down in the basement. Nobody was scared of the AFC West when those clowns were in the driver's seat. Now that it's OAK and KC in the daddy chair again - the rest of the league better learn some respect. Enjoy the win. And somebody look at a contract extension for Ford!
The (un)Official Ron Edwards Appreciation Post
Last year, all the talk about the Chiefs' D Line was far from positive. Dorsey and Jackson were being prematurely labeled as busts. The NT position looked like a sieve. Things weren't pretty. But most fans understood we were rebuilding, and the young DE's needed a season or two to adjust to the game at the NFL level - so even though there was some debate, there were many defending our DE's. But not the forgotten NT position. "We must draft NT no matter what!" we cried. "Ron Edwards is a backup at best" others chimed in. Then draft day hit, and NT's were to be found. Haley and Pioli had stated we were fine with what we had in-house. And a collective "Whoah, what?!? Seriously? What have these guys been drinking?" arose from the fanbase. I was one of those. So I'd like to formally apologize to Big Ron Edwards. I didn't believe. He works very hard at the defensive position least likely to post big lists of pretty stats. And this year he's been a monster, disrupting both the run and the pass. Forcing opposing offensive lines to account for him with second blockers, freeing up DJ and Jovan to do their thing. Big Ron, you've been a pleasant surprise and I was very wrong about you and your role on the team.

So I cave in (yeah, peer pressure) and try the Madden NFL Superstars game on Facebook at the prompting of a couple of friends.
The very first player I draw (note: I haven't even seen any of the others yet - I had to let this out before continuing) is none other than our very own....
