Minor League Ball Gerald Laird traded to Tigers for two prospects

http://www.freep.com/article/20081207/SPORTS02/81207045/1048/SPORTS

The two prospects are Guillermo Moscoso and Carlos Melo.

Does anybody have anything on the Guillermo Moscoso's stuff? His numbers are amazing to look at but could this just be a case of an older prospect dominating the younger kids. He's going to be 25 so whatever the case may be he needs to get moving up the ladder if he ever wants to amount to much.

Then you have Carlos Melo who seems to have great stuff for a 17 year old but I personally have never heard of him before this trade. Any Detroit fan heard anything about him before now?

I'm just ecstatic that this opens the way for the Rangers to start Teagarden or Saltalamacchia this year. With Laird around and Ron Washington managing I doubt this would have been the case.

Minor League Ball Rangers/Phillies Trade

According to Jamey Newberg, the Rangers just traded Fabio Castro (who they designated for assignment this week) for Daniel Haigwood of the Phillies.

Phillies will still have to keep Castro up for the rest of the year, but has showed some promise in the little time he's played this year. Haigwood looks like he could be a nice middle of the rotation starter if everything breaks well for him. So who wins?

Minor League Ball Is John Koronka for real?

As a Ranger fan earlier this year I was depressed that the Rangers traded the immensely talented but headcase, Juan Dominguez for Koronka and Rheinecker. However that was mainly because I thought John Koronka was a complete scrub that had no real shot at sticking in the majors, and Rheinecker was just a bust of a prospect.

Fortunately so far Koronka has far surpassed my expectations. Maybe it's just because I'm a Ranger fan and I'm not used to seeing good pitchers, but he has looked like the next Doug Davis to me.

I had never even heard about him until the trade, so I was just wondering what's the chances of him maintaining his current production or at least continue to pitch well to be a good 3rd or 4th starter for Texas?

Minor League Ball Scott Hairston

Whatever happened to him?

Just a couple of years ago he was all set to take over the Diamondbacks 2nd base job, but now you never hear a word about him. (or at least I haven't) Is he still projected to become a quality starter in the majors or has his status went the same way as Brandon Phillips?

Minor League Ball Ryan Braun or Jeff Clement

I'm in a league which is currently drafting the members of this year's amateur draft and with the 10th pick Ryan Braun and Jeff Clement are still available. I don't really follow college ball so I don't know their history, but since they were taken at #3 and #5 in the real draft I figure either one of them would be a good draft pick. Anyway I was just wondering who would be the better pick for me?

Minor League Ball David Espinosa

I was looking at the minor league leaderboards yesterday and noticed this guy from the Detroit organization. Through 22 games he already has 23 walks which along with a .360 average has given him an OBP over .500. I know OBP usually doesn't stick with a player with no power, but since he has 5 HR and quite a few other extra base hits this year he seems to be more then a slap hitter who walks.

Why has nobody talked about this guy yet? Sure his numbers didn't look that impressive last year but he did hit 19 HR with over 20 SB with a decent OBP. He seems like a real sleeper prospect to me...
