I just heard on the Austin news that a big Austin high school wide receiver just made a committment to Tech today. He said he likes the chances of getting a lot of balls thrown his way. I have a feeling Crabtree's performance and Tech's GREAT WIN over the Longhorns had a lot to do with this. If Tech continues to win against the OK State Cowboys and the OK Sooners, then destroy Baylor and Big-12 North survivor, Tech is going to be getting some fantastic recruits that will enable us to just blow away the rest of the Big-12 for many years ahead. A NC win and the sky is not even the limit. WOW!

just lost to Oregon State....Yea, That's right! 0-2 OSU beats 2-0 & #1 USC!

Now, that takes USC and the PAC-10 completely out of the National Championship chase. Oklahoma, Penn State (who drilled Oregon St.), Mizzou, Texas, Wisconsin, Alabama and Georgia are all high fiving about now. Maybe Texas Tech should join in. This is BIG! I for one had considered it a forgone conclusion that USC would win the PAC-10 with nobody giving them any problems. I am happy to say I was wrong!

OU has @24 TCU this weekend. If they aren't careful, this same thing could get them. Well, sort of. OSU was not even ranked. UT, Mizzou, Kansas and the Big-12's own OSU could make jumps, as well as Kansas & Colorado.

Unfortunately, Tech is off this week and could lose out on making a quantum leap up the charts. Let us all hope for the best. And when we resume play in Manhatten next week that Tech will be ready and not be blindsided like USC.

So, put your guns up and yell "GO TECH!"

I have been a Texas Tech Red Raider fan since the late 50's. The only other time they have drawn this much attention was the senior year of Rodney Allison (cut short by those dirty Aggies when they broke his leg). The thing about then was that there simply was no one capable of coming in and duplicating Rodney's abilities well enough to match the preseason expectations. This year, however, we have enough depth, even at QB and SE, to enable us to back up the hype. And the "D" is actually getting ink, too. I am so happy to see Tech causing this type of fuss and hope they can match expectations for this year and continue every year after this. GO TECH!

Danny Amendola

is really turning some heads at the Dallas Cowboys mini-camp for recruits. Check it out at: <http://www.dallascowboys.com/home.cfm> with the heading "Not Hard To Pick Amendola Out Of Rookie Crowd". There is no doubt that Dallas is banking on one or two of the youngsters in the camp to step up and make this team. Danny has all the tools and experience needed to be there in the Fall. While comparisons to Welker continue, Amendola will chart his own course in the NFL, if not with Dallas, then somewhere else. However, I think he will be in Dallas for several years. They really need someone with his style and abilities to open up the outside for the bigger and faster receivers.

With his ability to get open over the middle and on the sideline, other teams will not be able to put a poor cover guy on him, meaning that person may be forced to cover one of the afore mentioned bigger and faster receivers. And with Zach Thomas on the Cowboy roster, too, us Red Raider fans have become surefire Cowboy fans, even if any of us liked some other team. And I think many more will join the fold. I also think this can have a significant impact on how Tech players are perceive in future drafts.
GREAT GUNS A FIRIN'! WE GONNA RIDE IN TH' NFL!
GO WES, GO DANNY, GO ZACH, GO SAMMY! ETC. ETC....YAHOOOO! BLAM, BANG!

What is a "Hilltopper"

I researched at the Western Kentucky site and found the following tidbit of information:
The evolution of the nickname "Hilltoppers" is obvious to those who have seen the Western Kentucky campus.
The operations of Western Kentucky State Normal School were moved from its forerunner, Southern Normal School, to a commanding hill on the southwestern portion of Bowling Green on February 4, 1911. The move was completed as the entire student body marched to the new site, carrying various articles of school equipment.

Since the summit of "the Hill" rises 232 feet above nearby Barren River and the comparatively level plain that surrounds it, it was only natural that the athletes who represented the institution should come to be known as the "Hilltoppers."
Still, the name did not come into use until the 1925-26 school year. Prior to that, Westen teams were commonly referred to as "Pedagogues" or "Teachers" The first WKU uniform to bear the Hilltopper nickname was worn in 1927

is the moniker that we need to apply to the Leach lead Texas Tech offensive attack. Let's all jump up and vote on this (or another, if someone else has an idea).
What do you say, guys? Let's make Tech's offense a national word, spoken with awe everywhere. There is no other offense, even June Jones' that can wreak havock on any defense quite like that of the GREAT TEXAS TECH RED RAIDERS! Even when a defense holds them down at game start, they figure a way to circumvent it as the game progresses(see Minnesota). This is not just the spread offense used by several other teams. It is the "TECH RED SPREAD OFFENSE" of Mike Leach. No other mind in football can come up with the intricate plays he develops, sometimes as the game is being played. Mike Leach may go down in history as the most imaginative offensive-minded coach in the history of all football. His offense needs its own name. This is my suggestion. Are there any others? It has to fit this unique offensive scheme. OK? Maybe one with the name of Mike Leach incuded in the title. Let's have some fun and get this started before Spring drills.
GO Texas "TECH RED SPREAD OFFENSE"!!!!!!

Harrell & Crabtree are getting their awards, although I feel anti-Tech bias across the land has prevented them from really raking in a bunch more. Harrell is without a doubt the most awsome QB. When you see him leading nationally in Passes made/thrown, Yards, yards/game, total offense/game and % of completions, there cn be no doubt. he's not perfect, but no one is, but he's closer to it than all the rest. It is a total sham that he is not being seriously considered for the Heisman Award. He is penalized because of early defensive problems at Tech, and he can't play defense, too, so why is he being penalized for that? As for Crabtree, He is an amazing athlete. Everything he has done as a freshman is otherworldly. NO other WR is even close. Imagine what he will do when he really has the schemes downpat next year. He and Harrell are so in-sync that I think the other coaches cannot believe it, and the media is simply blind to anythone not associated with a "Power" school. Tech is bound, it appears, for the Gator Bowl against Clemson or Virginia. My feel is that Tech will score around 50 and hold the other team to 30 or so. That gives them a 9-4 record and a bright outlook for next year. GO GET 'EM TECH! GUNS UP! Expect 11 or more wins next year and probable BCS bowl, maybe the Championship! Ya gotta luvit.....

Well, for all those who have contended all year long that Tech could never win more than seven games, see the record == 8 wins, 4 defeats, and they aren't through, yet! The Gator Bowl is salivating at the thought of Tech playing there. On top of that, Graham Harrell and Michael Crabtree are surely going to be selected to receive some extra post-season hardware. I look to see a GREAT bowl win, too, leading to a top 20 finish in the final polls. Next year really looks good, with Tech losing only 4 or 5 starters. The backups are pretty good, and there are some excellent recruits that should contribute right away. Best of all, Harrell and Crabtree return. WOW! I CAN'T WAIT!!! GUNS UP,>--- GO TECH!

for Texas Tech to step it up another notch. Unlike some, I still believe Coach Leach can accomplish great things at Texas Tech, including conference cahmpionships, maybe even a national championship or two. It can't be done quickly, especially when all influences are considered: where the football program is coming from, where we want recruits to play, who we have to recruit against, the state & national view of Tech, and on and on. Coach Leach has made huge strides in several ways and will, if allowed, make tremendous strides in the near future--sort of the snowball affect. We certainly do not want to step backward like A&M. Nebraska, Arkansas, and, yes, even Texas, at one time. Lets see what happens in the next couple or three years befor declaring this as the highest we can attain. Give the Tech coaching staff a vote of approval and shout it out to all who can hear, especially those future recruits.
