Damontre Harris - Blocked from Transferring to NC State?
So says some dude in South Carolina.
As background, Harris is a 6-9, 210 pound sophmore, originally from Fayetteville, NC, who averaged about 7 points, 5.5 boards, and over 2 blocks in 26 minutes per game for the dumpster fire that was last year's Gamecock basketball team. Reports are that he is following Anthony Gill out of Columbia, and Frank Martin has agreed to release him anywhere-except NC State. Apparently Martin thinks there was some tampering by NC State coaches, reminiscent of Randy Edsall blocking Danny O'Brien from transferring to Vandy (recall that Orlando Early was at SC before last season).
Harris was #61 in the Class of 2010 in the RSCI rankings, and shot very well from the field and line last season. He'd certainly help in a big way in 2013-14, by which time Howell and presumably Calvin will be gone. Hope this gets worked out somehow.
Moving On
I cannot help but think about the future of the basketball program and get really excited (hopefully this is enough closure time for tannofsteel84).

MUST WATCH
Half-drunk, redneck Clemson fan turns his video camera towards himself and "previews" the NC State game.
"O'Brien, you're just another Yankee coach. So when this Southern team rolls in to...Carter-Finley Stadium. Sounds French to me, Cartier Friendly Stadium."
then he prank calls the NC State Vet Clinic. I...I have no words.
Football Recruiting Picking Up?
After a very slow start, the staff has secured commitments from several good looking prospects recently.
NC State Football = Dead End Job
Here's the rant I promised, though it is not really a rant, rather just awful reality
Horns' latest defensive guru Diaz coaches beyond his years
Why am I posting this? Oh, no particular reason. [Winks, nods.]
IMPORTANT FACIAL HAIR UPDATE
Mourn the loss of the Macrowave and his Macrobeard no longer. Richard Howell will be stepping in for the Macrowave, and not just in the "bulky, skilled power forward who can't really jump" role:
In a follow-up tweet, he requested that fans wear "fake beards and ish" to the games. I never get to go to games, but maybe other BTP readers could start the trend?
State Critic, Failed Lawyer Now Also Failed Sports Blogger
You may remember some douche named Matt Jones, a blogger on cbssportsline.com, taking vicious potshots at NC State/NC State fans throughout the recent basketball coaching search. At one point I think something he wrote got posted here and we mocked him for a bit. He was every bit as vitrolic, if not more so, than Jeff "Look Ma, No Chin!" Goodman, but he didn't get as much noteriety because no one knew who the **** he was.
Everyone rank your favorite Possible Saviors so far
The search is about to kick into high gear (or perhaps it has already? hmmm...). There are some interesting candidates we have not profiled here on BTP (Anthony Grant, Mark Turgeon, Kevin Stallings spring to mind) along with some left field options (Seth Greenberg, Vinny Del Negro?) and the home run hires (Miller, Barnes, etc.) that there's no real point in profiling, but we have a solid base now and I'm interested in how everyone here ranks them.
For the purposes of this exercise, assume that each of these guys would accept the job.
As a reminder, here are your options, sorted by current gig (and alphabetically by last name within those categories). My picks below the jump:
Current high major coaches
Mike Brey, Notre Dame
Jeff Capel, Oklahoma
Johnny Dawkins, Stanford
Darrin Horn, South Carolina
Tubby Smith, Minnesota
Current mid-low major coaches
Tommy Amaker, Harvard
Brian Gregory, Dayton
Mike Lonergan, Vermont
Chris Mack, Xavier
Gregg Marshall, Witchita State
Cuonzo Martin, Missouri State
Tim Miles, Colorado State
Chris Mooney, Richmond
Shaka Smart, VCU
Blaine Taylor, ODU
Currently unemployed
Keno Davis
Billy Clyde Gillispie

Previously on Profile of a Possible Savior...we've profiled a bunch of dudes. Today's candidate is Mike Brey,
the almost 52 year old coach of Notre Dame.

Return of the Mack (once again!) Return of the Mack (Oh-My-God!)
Previously on Profile Of A Possible Savior:
Shaka Smart (VCU)
Cuonzo Martin (Missouri State)
Gregg Marshall (Wichita State)
Billy Gillispie (Bi-winning)
Today's candidate: 41 year old Xavier coach Chris Mack, in his second season heading the Muskeeters. Details after the jump.
Official "Next Coach" Poll
Let's do this. If you had to bet on one guy, who would it be as of now. Please feel free to discuss in the comments.
This poll is asking you, "who do you think will actually be coaching State next year," not "who would you want to be the coach if you had your pick."
All answers except for "Sidney Lowe" are valid.
My vote is for Tubby, BTW.
Here are some extra words that I am including because it's making me have 75 words to make this a "fan post" blah blah blahgidty blah ok yeah sure un huh right absolutely Tony thanks for the interview coach no problem back to you Gary wolfpack fans stop by Bojangles after the game for some delicious chicken and biscuits
Profile of a Possible Savior: Billy Clyde Gillispie
Am I going here? Oh yes, yes I am.
For the record, this is not going to happen, in my opinion. But let’s play what if:
Profile of a Possible Savior: Gregg Marshall
Fourth in an occasional series.
You know the deal by now. Today's contestant is long-time message board darling Gregg Marshall.
Marshall is approximately 48 years old (can't find his DOB online?) and in his 4th season as head coach of Witchita State, following 9 years as the head man at Winthrop.
Profile of a Possible Savior: Darrin Horn
Second in an occasional series.
As always, I make no representations about the accuracy of this post, except that I'm doing more homework than Lee Fowler did in 2006.
Today I'm looking at Darrin Horn, who is 38 and in his third season as head coach in South Carolina. Prior to that he spent 5 years as HC at Western Kentucky, his alma mater.
Profile of a Possible Savior: Brian Gregory
First in an occasional series.
Following up on my post listing coaching candidates a few weeks ago, I'm here to ask the important questions about various possible successors to Sid whose names are getting tossed about. The goal here is to do a superficially thorough review of a series of candidates. I only guarantee that it is more homework than Lee Fowler did in 2006.
First up is Dayton's Brian Gregory, who wasn't even on my initial list, but whatever.
Brian Gregory, 44, is in his 8th season as the head coach at Dayton. Prior to that he was an assistant at Michigan State. He took over from Oliver Purnell when Purnell went to Clemson. Dayton is his first head coaching job.

Possible basketball coaching candidates
Just on the off chance that we are in the market for a new coach after this season...
Feel free to comment or add your own candidates.
A sobering historical perspective on our football success, or lack thereof
We have finished with a winning record in ACC play just twice in the past 15 years. Both times it was 5-3 (2002 and 1998).
The last time we finished better than 5-3 in ACC play was 1994 (6-2).
The last time we finished with 1 loss in ACC play? 1979, when we went 5-1 in conference and won our last title. That was also the last time we did not lose an ACC road game (we only played 2).
You'd have to go back to Lou Holtz's 1973 team to find a Pack squad with a better conference winning percentage than the 0.875 we'd have if we won out. And of course, we've had a 10 win season only once before in our history.
None of this has any effect on what will happen over the next 4 games. But it shows that going undefeated from here on out would be an almost unprecedented success for this program. A 3-1 record down the stretch would be outstanding - and that would not guarantee us a place in the conference title game.
