Burnt Orange Nation Happy Vince Young Day

This was stated in another diary but I just wanted to bring it to everyone's attention. Two years ago VY led our beloved Longhorns against the evil men of Troy in my estimation the greatest college football game ever to an UNDISPUTED National Championship. So wear your burnt orange will much pride and wish everyone you see a "Happy Vince Young Day."

Burnt Orange Nation Jerry's Wonderworld

http://www.dallasnews.com/sharedcont...

But what he got when he visited the Cowboys this week to hear the team's sales pitch was severe sticker shock – $100,000 each for two personal seat licenses, a new feature that would allow him to buy tickets at the team's new $1 billion stadium in Arlington. And those seats near Cowboys owner Jerry Jones' luxury box weren't even for the priciest seat licenses in the new stadium – those go for $150,000.

I find this to be outrageous and the cause of the lack of excitement at many professional atheletic events, primarily the NBA. Blue collared fans, who in my generalized opinion, are the most devout fans, but with prices like these fans are priced out of attending the game. I hope Texas/OU is never moved there because I can only imagine how much more expensive tickets will become.

Burnt Orange Nation Fiesta Bowl: KU vs OU

http://blogs.chron.com/longhorns/200...

There could be an All-Big 12 clash in the desert.

If top-ranked Missouri doesn't reach the Bowl Championship Series title game, Fiesta Bowl officials have discussed the possibility of Oklahoma and Kansas playing in the Jan. 2, 2008, game in Glendale, Ariz.

Obviously we are all hoping Mizzou beats OU in the Big 12 Championship ((1) cause I will throw up if OU wins another Big 12 Championship and (2) Big 12 to win the national championship), but if OU by the grace of the devil goes to the Fiesta Bowl what do y'all think of this matchup. I think this doesn't bode well for the Big 12 because we want to see how we perform against other conferences not against each other.

The beginning of basketball season is almost upon us and Luke Winn has a nice piece on Post-Durant Texas. I hope DJ has turned into the leader TJ wants him to be, but on a side note is Luke Winn our biggest fan?

Burnt Orange Nation ND Comes to Texas

But they won't be playing a Texas team. Notre Dame and Washington State will be playing in San Antonio in 2009: http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/200... I don't like the idea of two out of state teams coming to Texas to show off their schools to local recruits.

Battle Red Blog Rival

I know our franchise is only a few years old, but what makes sports great is having a rival. Who do y'all consider to be our rival? The Cowboys because they are from Dallas? The Titans because they are the old Oilers? The Jaguars because they are in our division and we can actually beat them? I know none of these teams will reciprocate the feeling, but what do y'all feel?

Burnt Orange Nation Undisputed Champions?

Would you consider UF the undisputed champions? Boise State was the only undefeated team and actually received one first place in the AP Poll. I'd claim that in this century the only undisputed national champions have been us last year and Ohio State in 2002, because both teams received all of the AP votes, won the BCS, and the BCS game was clearly 1 vs. 2.

Here are the controveries:

2006 - Boise State is undefeated
2004 - Auburn is undefeated, left out of the game
2003 - USC wins the AP poll, LSU the BCS
2001 - Nebraska doesn't win the Big 12 but plays in the MNC, and Oregon feels left out
2000 - OU plays FSU, even though Miami beat FSU earlier that year and was ranked # 2 in the AP.

Any thoughts?

Burnt Orange Nation Top Dual Sport Schools

http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/columns/story?columnist=forde_pat&id=2704947&lpos=spotlight&a mp;lid=tab1pos1

The rankings are over the past five years and used a simple formula relying on the genius of Sagarin. We are number 1, Florida is 2, LSU is 3, OU is 4, and Wisconsin is 5. I really don't want Florida or Ohio State to be the first school to win both championships in the same year.

Also, Texas A&M could not be found on the list, oh what a travesty.

Burnt Orange Nation If you are a Texans and Horns fan you should . . .

BE ROOTING FOR THE TEXANS!

I know that VY is our man, he lead us to the glory land, but if you really are a Texans fans root for the Texans to win their 5th game. If you don't care for the Texans, then by all means root for the Titans.

If your logic is "well, I hate Bob McNair because he didn't draft VY, so I will root for the Titans" remember that you are rooting for Bud Adams' team. If memory serves me right, Bud Adams is the devil; he dismantled the old Astros scoreboard, traded Warren Moon, and moved the team to Tennnessee. Bud Adams betrayed the city of Houston and every Oilers fan.

If the Browns pass up on Troy Smith and the Ravens draft him, I doubt any self respecting member of the Dawg Pound will root for the Ravens.

Futhermore, John McClain clarifies this point in his blog: http://blogs.chron.com/nfl/2006/12/never_forget_that_vy_is_buds_g_1.html

Vince Young is a Longhorn, but on Sunday he will be wearing the enemy's colors. Mario Williams and DeMeco Ryans will revive "the House of Pain."

Burnt Orange Nation Beat OU on ESPN

ESPN for the upteenth time is doing an "all-time greatest college football playoff." Our 2005 team is pitted against the 2000 OU team. God almighty, us Longhorns better come early, be loud, and vote as often as we can, so we beat the Land Thieves.

Hook 'em.

Burnt Orange Nation Perspective

http://www.statesman.com/sports/content/sports/stories/longhorns/09/13/13majortime.html?cxtype=rss&a mp;cxsvc=7&cxcat=54

This article, which chronicles Major's career at UT, reminds me why last year was so magical and why we all can't be too down about this loss to Ohio State.  Call me the blindest UT homer, but I really think there is a distinct possibility that we still be in the mix for the BCS National Championship game in November and December. If my memory serves me right during my four years of college, all of which we lost to OU, we always came back strong for the rest of the season after the losses in Big D. I have feeling we will make those adjustments and climb back up the rankings.

Hook 'em

Burnt Orange Nation Ticket Policy

Does anyone know the policy for student tickets? Do they scan both the ID and the ticket? I graduated from UT in '04 and I still have my student ID. I am considering buying a ticket without a name which was purchased from the draw. Will I get in by just flashing my ID?

WE WILL BEAT OHIO STATE BY 10 POINTS. HOOK EM

Burnt Orange Nation Bomar Gone?

http://www.newsok.com/article/2824545/

"Oklahoma football coach Bob Stoops says he's dismissing two players from the Sooner football team.

A news release from OU does not name the players, but News 9 sports director Dean Blevins says one player is starting quarterback Rhett Bomar.

The release says an investigation by the university found the two players were paid to work at a private business and were paid for hours they didn't work.

OU said the two are being permanently dismissed and will not be allowed to return to the team at any time.

OU athletic director Joe Castiglione says he's disappointed in the athletes and university President David Boren says he believes Stoops is doing the right thing and he strongly supports the coach."

Burnt Orange Nation Tucker is Gone

http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/draft2006/news/story?id=2449610

As many of us expected P.J. Tucker has signed with an agent and therefore will not return to UT. Hopefully, Durant and company will be able to lead us to the promise land again, but I am kind of concerned if Williams and Gibson also leave. That will leave us without any returning starters are players with significant playing time.

Burnt Orange Nation Response to Dorf Man

(1) Vince Young is amazing and pushed UT over the edge for that national championship, but he alone was not the reason for UT's success. Over the last 8 years Texas has had the BEST record in all of college football. (See record below). We are not one amongst 30 competitive programs, rather we are the CREAM OF THE CROP among the 30 programs.

Year     Record     Bowl game attended
1998     9-3     Cotton Bowl
1999     9-5     Cotton Bowl
2000     9-3     Holiday Bowl
2001     11-2     Holiday Bowl
2002     11-2     Cotton Bowl
2003     10-3     Holiday Bowl
2004     12-1     Rose Bowl
2005     13-0     Rose Bowl; BCS National Championship

(2) I hate professional sports. There is no passion, little loyalty, and a massive disconnect between the players and fans. Wow, the NBA playoffs lasts 2 months with half of the teams in the forray. While teams move because professional sports is a business, I know UT will always be in Austin.

(3) I F&CKIN BLEED BURNT ORANGE.

Burnt Orange Nation CNN SI

http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/football/ncaa/

They list Ohio State as number 1 and us as number 2. How sweet would that be to beat the # 1 team in the country at home. I am already getting goosebumps. Seriously, imagine, beating 2 # 1 teams in the last 3 games.

Also, on CNNSI, they list Jamaal Charles as a possible Heisman canidate. What do y'all think are his chances of winning it as a sophomore?

IS IT FOOTBALL SEASON YET!

Burnt Orange Nation Vincent Young

A nice article about Vince Young.

http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2006/writers/michael_silver/04/14/young/index.html

Also, John Saunders, on the Sports Reporters, this morning was also very pro VY. The most apt point he made was when he differentiated Michael Vick and Vince Young's running styles: Vick scrambles, whereas VY runs with a purpose.

I am still holding onto hope that the Texans draft # 10. My biggest nightmare would be for the Titans to draft Vince, and then VY led them to a Super Bowl Championship.

Burnt Orange Nation Roger the Racist?

At the least this was a poor choice of words, or at the max, the reason why I don't like parts of Texas.

Clemens, who broke down late last season with injuries, said he felt fine after the WBC and left the tournament impressed by the quality of the international teams.

But he made a questionable comment when speaking about the devotion of the Japanese and South Korean fans.

"None of the dry cleaners were open, they were all at the game, Japan and Korea," Clemens said. "So we couldn't get any dry cleaning done out there, but I guess the neatest thing is that 50,000 of them were at Anaheim Stadium."

Burnt Orange Nation Rick Barnes to N.C. State?

As y'all know Herb Sendek has left N.C. State for greener pastures in the desert. Reports out here in the Research Triangle have Rick Barnes as a candidate for the job. Part of Barnes' contract is the right to leave UT for one of the North Carolina schools, one being State. Barnes is from Hickory, North Carolina and has always expressed a desire to return to the ACC. A friend of mine told me that Barnes was in Raleigh this weekend, possibly meeting with State officials.

What do y'all think of Barnes leaving us for State? The obvious pros for him would be a return to the ACC, a return home, and a state dedicated to basketball as though it were football. The obvious cons is that, well, State doesn't have the resources of UT, they are in ACC, and he won't be able to recruit as well has he as in Austin.

Burnt Orange Nation Duke Basketball = USC Football

Again, ESPN has tabbed another school which it adores as a dynasty. Again, Texas has a chance, God willing, to play against both that school and ESPN. Again, UT can throw it all back in ESPN's face.

http://sports.espn.go.com/ncb/ncaatourney06/columns/story?columnist=katz_andy&id=2378395

Though Duke's dominating performance over the last decade is impressive, is that performance worthy of a comparison to UCLA?

Is ESPN jinxing Duke?

Also, why isn't there more talk about the 'Texas Trifecta'?

Burnt Orange Nation The Trojan Love Fest Continues

From ESPN.com

"He's talking about the USC dynasty reloading -- not rebuilding -- after nearly winning an unprecedented third consecutive national title, and he is intimating future days of woe for all who doubt the Trojans."

Dynasty??? Reloading???

ESPN should be displaying this kind of love to the National Champions, not USC.
