Jamaal Charles sees Peyton Hillis as another Thomas Jones

"I feel like he’s the same as Thomas Jones," Charles said. "He’s going to come in and get all the tough yards and all the power and I feel like that was the same thing when Thomas was here. I don’t really care, I’m not a selfish player, and I just want to win. If he can contribute to the team and put points on the board, why not? I don’t care about how many yards; I feel like every week if we win the game, I don’t have any complaints. He came in, we brought him in to win games. We didn’t bring him in to compete with each other, but we’ll compete with each other in a certain way. But I don’t think he’s on this team, I’m on that team, I want to beat him up. I want to train with him and be his best friend."

Former South Shore HS quarterback David Legree signs free agent contract with Kansas City Chiefs - NY Daily News

"Yeah, it’s great," said Tommy Salvato, the former Vikings coach who was with the team when Legree was there. "I've been in touch with him. (I’m) real happy for him."

Mayock calls Vontaze Burfict a "non-draftable kid"

"I put his tape on with absolutely zero preconceived notions," Mayock explained in a Thursday conference call with media. "I watched three tapes and really didn’t like him as a football player. "I think he’s a non-draftable kid. For me, he’s a free agent."

Lilja rides to Cassel’s defense

Former Colts lineman regrets not speaking up when some Chiefs fans were clamoring for the team to sign Manning.

Scout on Dontari Poe: Watch him play, he didn’t do anything

"He’ll be overdrafted," one personnel man told the Times of Trenton. "He did all of that at the Combine, so some team will take him way higher than he should go. I mean watch him play, just watch. He didn’t do anything. And he wasn’t playing at a very high level, either. All I know is he had one sack last year and it came against Austin Peay. You probably didn’t even know Austin Peay had a football team."

Pioli, Chiefs continue to go in right direction

While the Denver Broncos dominate headlines with the Peyton Manning addition, the Chiefs continue to build a promising roster. Kansas City added several pieces, highlighted by the additions of cornerback Stanford Routt, running back Peyton Hillis, right tackle Eric Winston and tight end Kevin Boss. I got a chance to catch up with Kansas City general manager Scott Pioli on Tuesday. Pioli is clearly pleased with the additions and how they continue to help his team move forward. Pioli is a student of how to build a winning roster and I think every move he makes is carefully considered and done in the scope of the big picture.

Sports books anoint Broncos as Super Bowl contenders with Peyton Manning

Local oddsmakers now see the Broncos as the fourth or fifth most likely team to emerge as NFL champions next season. Less than two months ago, Denver was 18th.

Low demand for veteran running backs

Interesting take on how the new rookie wage scale, combined with the short shelf life for RBs, has created a very soft market for veteran running backs.

Vontaze Burfict bombs his Pro Day, too

Give it up, Burfict fans. The Chiefs aren't going to draft this bum.

Report: Bills had bounty system under Gregg Williams

Wire acknowledged that he was praised for delivering a career-ending injury during a preseason game. "I shattered [running back] James Stewart’s shoulder, and he never played again," Wire said. "I was showered with praise for that. It’s a shame that’s how it was. Now I see how wrong that was."

Hudson ready for starting role

Much like Asamoah used his time to study under Waters in 2010, Hudson spent his rookie season absorbing all he could while lockering next to Wiegmann.

Feds seize gambling site Bodog, indict founder

Not necessarily on topic, but I think some AP members have used that site to bet on games.

Vontaze Burfict’s rough Combine continues

"I’m not sure any player here sparked a worse reaction than Vontaze Burfict," writes Bruce Feldman of CBS Sports. "I wouldn’t touch him."

Cornerback Brandon Carr A Good Match For Dallas Cowboys

How often do good man-cover players in their prime hit the market? This kid is about to get paid. He is this high because he plays a premium position well. He turns 26 in May.

Q&A with Romeo Crennel 2/15

OPENING REMARKS: "Good afternoon. Hope everyone is fine. You know that I’ve been working on this staff ever since I was named head coach. During that process, you have to do due diligence, talk to different people and run the due course of encountering obstacles along the way, but finally got the staff together, feel good about the guys we have. I think that it’s a good group; they’re good teachers. They’re going to be hard workers, good football people and there will be good staff cohesiveness and we’ll be able to translate that to the players in the locker room and on to the field. With that, I’ll open it up for you."

Five senators tell FCC that NFL blackout policy should end

"These blackouts are ruining the experience of rooting for the home team and are unjustly hurting fans," the senators wrote. "That many of these stadiums were constructed or remodeled using taxpayer dollars underscores the disservice done to fans by blackouts."

Can Big Ben and Haley co-exist in Pittsburgh?

"How does Roethlisberger respond to getting slapped around a little?" Starkey asks. "The organization that granted him nearly unlimited power to play as he saw fit -- heck, to play when he saw fit after his ankle injury -- is trying to reclaim a portion of said power. And there is no delicate way to do that. "So get your popcorn ready. It's either going to work to spectacular results or blow up in their faces. Applaud the high-risk, high-reward philosophy that has often served the Steelers well. Question their methods. Enjoy the cabaret."

New CBA gives teams the right to carry over cap space automatically

Under Article 13, Section 6(b)(v) of the CBA, each team may carry over any remaining cap room from one year to the next by submitting written notice, signed by the owner of the team, to the league office no later than 14 days before the start of the next league year. The written notice must indicate the maximum amount of cap room that the team wishes to shift from one cap year to the next.

There’s a lot anti-Manning sentiment in Washington

The Post’s beat writer Mike Jones makes the case that signing Kyle Orton would make sense instead of Manning.

Todd Haley could be in for a bumpy ride in Pittsburgh

Problem is, a lot of people in the Steelers organization didn't want Arians (who is now the Colts offensive coordinator) to be fired -- head coach Mike Tomlin expressed his endorsement of Arians' work after the Steelers were upset by the Denver Broncos in the wild-card round, and quarterback Ben Roethlisberger was known to be concerned about the direction of the offense after Arians' departure.
