Alfajores???

On a note unrelated to basketball (unless you count the fact that Manu is from Argentina), I am hoping one of the excellent people here from PTR who live in Argentina might be willing to help me out.

You see, in late 2007, my wife and I were lucky enough to take a three week trip through Chile, Argentina (my fav) and Brazil. Besides wearing my Ginobili jersey with pride and getting to sample some amazing Malbec and beef first hand, I also discovered dulce de leche, and more specifically, Alfajores. I love Alfajores!

I live in Toronto, Canada (don't get me started on last weeks Raptors game and for the record I have been a Spurs fan since I was 11 years old (I'm now 31) - right around when Robinson entered the league and basketball started receiving mainstream media coverage in Canada) and every since my stash of Alfajores that I brought home with me finally disappear last year, I have been searching for replacements. Some locally made ones I found in Toronto just aren't as good the real thing and some imported ones my wife order over the internet did not work out (over priced and bad customer service).

This brings me to me current plea for help. Are there any PTR's who live in Argentina who might be willing to ship a fellow Spurs fan some Alfajores (or recommend a good company who imports to Canada)? Of course, I would provide the funds (and a little extra?) to purchase said Alfajores through paypal or any other preferred payment method.

Thanks for your time... off to watch the first half of the Spurs/Knicks game (here's hoping GInobili's ankle is ok) before heading out to my own game tonight.

Enough playing time for Tolliver already!

So I just arrived home from a post Christmas party and I picked up the phone to call my brother to see how he is doing. He informs me that he is watching the Raps (we live in Toronto) and that the Spurs are about to win in double OT. "WTF" I reply, "I thought they were playing Memphis tonight".

In any event, thankful for the win, I proceeded to log onto PTR to check out the game thread to see how the things unfolded. Starting around 6:26 PM PST, I start seeing some posts that make me cringe... "Tolliver can't make a shot", "why is Tolliver seeing so many early minutes" and "Tolliver can't make anything".

This brings me to me current rant... is it just me or is Tolliver a younger version of an over-the-hill Robert Horry? The best thing about Robert Horry retiring is that I no longer have to watch him miss wide open three pointer after wide open three pointer (for the record I appreciated what Horry did for the Spurs while he could still play - we don't win the 2005 title without him).

Tolliver's inability to even come close on the majority of his shots has been nagging at me for some time so I decided to check out his stats. Now, I didn't see any of the summer league games, but could someone please explain to me why Tolliver is on the team, let alone getting playing time, while Gist is stashed away overseas? I am assuming the choice was based on the fact that Tolliver was a big who could "shoot", but his play this year certainly seems to suggest otherwise.

Side point #1 - I know the other reasons are that Mahinmi, if he were healthy, would likely be receive PT ahead of Gist and that no one was expecting Bonner to contribute the way he current is (although anyone from Toronto will tell you that the Red Rocket has some skills), but these are logical points that take the fun away from my rant.

In closing, here is my plea to Pop, please, for the love of god, stop playing a guy who is shooting .327 from the floor, .229 from behind the ark and .500 from the line. I can't take it anymore!

Side note #2 - I am not usually a negative person, but it is late, I am tired, my post likely has typos in it, the Spurs needed double overtime to beat Memphis and Tolliver had another stellar 0-for performance. My next post will be positive. I promise.

Ginobili has successful surgery

Sounds like the first step is done. However, I have not seen any consistent reporting on how long it will take Manu to recover. Personally, I hope he is back sometime around the end of November/early December - enough time to rest, but with only about 10 games or so missed.

On an unrelated note... Chalmers and Arthur caught with marijuana at rookie... camp: http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?id=3567481... makes curious George look a little bit better (at least from the Spurs perspective).

Ginobili to undergo surgery

I guess we all new this was coming. No word yet on what the recovery time will be. I am trying to convince myself that this is actually the best scenario. The surgery will force Manu to rest (presumably miss part of the season) which will hopefully mean he is better shape for the playoffs (on that note I hope we manage to grab the 6th seed). Also, I am hoping that at the end of the day Manu will be better off having the surgery rather than playing all year knowing that he could re-injure his heel/ankle on any given random play.

Get better Manu!!!!

GO Argentina

In honour (Canadian spelling) of the upcoming semi-final match up between Argentina and the U.S.A. I am looking for a video of the Olympic semi-finals between Argentina and the U.S.A. Anyone know where I can find/download a copy of the complete game? A copy of the gold medal game would also be great.

I am from Canada and the seeing as our national team is a joke (no wonder Steve Nash no longer wants to play) I am firmly behind Manu and Argentina. It looks like is going to be a (huge) up hill battle, but I have said to anyone who will listen (like I have a lot of friends who want to hear me talk about Argentina's national basketball team), that if the States loses a game in this Olympics (and I admit this is a big if), it will be Argentina who beats them. To bad this isn't the gold medal game.

Let’s hope Manu and the boys have enough gas left in the tank, hit their threes and limit the their turnovers.
