Petey is the godfather of institutional cheating and published his primer on the subject as reported previously here. He's passed his wisdom to his protégé, the recently departed Timmeh Floyd. Well, Timmeh is out of a work, due to self-inflicted friendly-fire. So he's following his mentor's lead by publishing his own epistle, front and back covers shown below (click on pictures for larger images). Rush out and get your copy now!

We're proud of our two Bruins who played significant roles during the season and the playoffs. Let's hope free-agent Ariza gets locked up in a nice long contract.

Let's Go!

Jrue Holiday stepped up big with DC stymied with foul trouble. JH played 38 minutes scored 13 points on 5-12 shooting and handed out 6 assists against only 2 turnovers. Nice to see him with emotion.

We survived. Barely. Josh Shipp was steady and all the starters scored double figures. PAA was his normal animal self (A-cubed) absorbing punishment while sinking a perfect 5 of 5 from the line, including two clutch free throws near the end for the final Bruin points, preserving the win.

The tone was set with Taj Gibson's physical shove on PAA early in the game. Yeah, the SPTRs didn't call the foul, but don't blame them for this loss. The Bruins needed to take that shot from Taj as a sign to bring it and bring it hard, because justsc was hungry and physical. We needed to equal or exceed that physical play and not worry about the calls.

Unfortunately, we didn't get the message.

Okay, here are the highlights. Really nice except for the final score. Maybe I should create a lowlights reel to show how the game really went, but I'm too depressed.

What's left of this season is, "Advance or go home." Win or lose, we're still behind this team. Just leave it all on the court, okay guys?

We start with highlighting the play of James Keefe and Jrue Holiday. JK looked good with some extended minutes as Dragovic was limited by some foul trouble. Keefe played good defense, grabbed six rebounds, hit a three and a shot-clock buzzer beater. Jrue played much better defense and again showed flashes of his potential. Let's hope these are good signs as JK and JH are going to be key as we finish out the Pac-10 Tournament and head into the big dance.

The Bruins started out hot, jumping out to a 25-5 lead with under 10 minutes left in the first half. Their play dropped off a bit and the shots started to fall for WSU, but the Bruins maintained a double-digit lead until less than a minute remained in the game. Five out of six freethrows down the stretch sealed the win.

The Class of 2009 was honored on Senior Day. This class still has some unfinished business to attend to. There's a Pac-10 Tournament Championship to fight for, along with seeding for the NCAA Tournament, as well as a final tune-up for the big dance. But, however the next few weeks play out, hasn't the journey been fun? The "what have you done for me lately?" mentality was dispelled by billynight's great post on The Savior Class. We owe a debt of gratitude to these seniors, especially Josh Shipp. They continue the legacy of Coach, from their accomplishments both on off the court.

We look forward to seeing them some years down the road, just like Kareem Abdul-Jabbar at a halftime talking about how the most important thing learned under Coach (it will be the Caretaker then) was to grow up to be responsible good men. Class of 66 so eloquently writes how our Bruins should be remembered.

I was fortunate to be at the game yesterday, but was hampered by the fact that security wouldn't let me take in my 200mm lens (as you can tell by that last shot). So I improvised, trading shot quality for semi-animation as the seniors were honored.

My previous post featured the seniors, but hey, a few other guys played in the game too. They are the future of the team and the future looks good.

Dragovic may miss a few defensive rotations, but he sure has a sweet jumper and amazingly blocks a lot of shots. Like Dragovic, Roll and Keefe have one more year and will provide veteran experience and leadership. Who knows what will happen with Jrue, we can only hope. But seeing how Lee, Andersen, Gordon and Bobo develop will be fun. Looking forward to that and some future Senior Day halftime.

There are still a few games left, but our seniors played their last game in Pauley Pavilion leaving with smiles on their faces, a good win, and grateful fans. Josh Shipp followed up Thursday's career high with another career high 28 points. Darren Collison and Alfred Aboya had solid games, scoring 19 and 10 points, respectively. The trio have a few school records between them, reflective of their four and five year careers. From the LA Times:

No player has won more games as a Bruin than Aboya, who notched his 116th career victory. He also played in his 138th game, a school record he shares with Collison.

Collison entered the Oregon game ranked third all-time in steals and fifth in assists.

Shipp, a fifth-year senior, surpassed former Bruin Earl Watson by making his 130th career start.

The game was a bit sloppy, with a lot of almost highlight-reel action. Lucky for the Oregon Ducks, who hung around during the first half, but still got blown out in the second. James Diefenbach, the fourth senior got into the game late and scored, much to the joy of his family.
Last note, Dohn reports that the x-rays for DC's tailbone were negative; he'll be sore, but ready for the Pac-10 tournament.

Enjoy the senior highlights.

Alfred Aboya looked a little too amped early, picking up two fouls in less than four minutes and spent most of the first half riding the pine. He settled down in the second half, scoring nine points, but gave us a little scare with his last shot. He seemed fine the post-game interview, though. Hope his parents are enjoying their trip while getting a crash course in basketball and everything American. What better way to start, but on the UCLA campus.

Josh Shipp had a career high 27 points for the game and was nearly perfect in the first half, carrying the team through an uneven start and busting the Beaver zone.

Darren Collison led all scorers with 22 and was clutch at the end to pull out the 72-68 win in front of the Berzerkleys. My vote for DC's best shot was the 15-foot fling with time running out on the shot clock and 1:26 left in the game. That put the lead to seven points and gave us confidence that we could really pull out the win.

We had another uneven start and trailed by two points at the half.

We started the second half better and eeked out a five-point lead only to lose it and trailed Cal until DC's layup put us ahead 54-53 with under eight minutes to play. Including that bucket, DC would score 11 of the Bruins last 18 points for a tough road win.

PAA continue to be the man with constant hustle plays and nearly had another double-double with 12 points and 9 boards. ND shook off the effects of a stomach virus; his defense suffered, but he managed to hit some clutch shots for 12 points and had 7 boards. JS also scored 12 and should have had more as he missed a couple of bunnies.

We'll take the win and enjoy returning home for the last two games of the regular season.

Go Bruins!
