Texas Women make the tournament
Texas gets a 9 seed playing against West Virginia in Norfolk. A very winnable game and an opportunity for our million dollar coach to double her NCCA tourney wins at Texas.
Texas Volleyball Earns Overall #1 Seed in NCAA Tournament
Bumped. Thanks for the update, and Hook 'Em! --PB
The NCAA Volleyball tournament field was announced Sunday and Texas Volleyball received the overall #1 seed. The Longhorns will host the 1st and 2nd rounds this weekend at Gregory Gym. On Friday they will face Texas State and on Saturday they will face the winner of Michigan State & Arizona.
A few thoughts on the bracket and Texas' tournament draw after the jump.
Volleyball plays for a Big 12 Championship Saturday
The Horns will look to wrap up an outright Big 12 title Saturday at 4pm against OU. In addition to playing for the title, the Horns will be looking to avenge the only blemish on their Big 12 record. OU won in Norman 3-2. If that isn't enough, it's also senior night for four players that stand out as a class that has been to the Final Four every year they've been on the Forty Acres. If they make it to San Antonio next month for their fourth Final Four, they will be the only class in Texas Volleyball history to have made four in a row.
Volley for the Cure on Saturday
It's a football bye weekend so it's the perfect opportunity to get out to Gregory. The Horns will take on Missouri at 5pm in the annual Volley for the Cure. The Horns are currently tied with Iowa State for the lead in the Big 12. Tomorrow completes the first round of play among the teams. Iowa State is at A&M so it's feasible that Texas can take sole possession of first place with a victory over Missouri.

Texas Volleyball: Season Opener Friday Night
The 2011 version of Texas Volleyball hits the court Friday night at 8pm against Pepperdine. They will be showing off the #1 ranked recruiting class of Khat Bell, Hayley Eckerman and Madelyn Hutson. Khat Bell has been described by her coach as the 2nd coming of Destinee Hooker.

Texas Volleyball, aka the Gregory Gazelles, is headed to the Final Four for the 3rd straight year. Match time is 6 CST against Penn State on Thursday.
THIS IS OUR HOUSE
Texas Volleyball Dismisses UTSA, Faces UCLA Saturday
The Gregory Gazelles dismissed UTSA with a 3-0 sweep (25-11,18,15) Friday night at Gregory. Prior to their match #9 UCLA needed 5 sets to take out American University. These results set up a Saturday night clash at 6:30 pm for Texas and UCLA. The winner advances to next week's regional also being played at Gregory Gym.
Texas seeded #9 in NCAA Volleyball Tournament
Our resurgent Gazelles were seeded overall #9 in the NCAA Volleyball Tournament. They will host the 1st and 2nd rounds next weekend at Gregory Gym along with the regional rounds.
Volleyball Begins Three Game Home Stand
After picking up two 3-1 road wins last week in Waco and Lubbock, the Gazelles return to the friendly confines of Gregory Gym to begin the second longest home stand of the season. Just four matches remain in the regular season and Texas gets three of those at home before traveling to Iowa State on Thanksgiving weekend to close out the Big 12 season. They will then await their NCAA fate on Sunday the 28th.
Texas Volleyball Needs Your Support!
Don't worry, there is no poster of Jerritt pointing his finger at you. Over in the world of volleyball, the coaches just work on coaching players and putting them in the best possible position to win matches. Whether they are playing in front of 1,500 or 3,100 they don't care, they just play hard and if the ship needs "righting" they right it.

Saturday Night is Senior Night for Volleyball
This Saturday night at Gregory Gym will be the last regular season game for Destinee Hooker, Ashley Engle and Heather Kisner. These three ladies will go out as the "winningest" class in Texas Volleyball history. If you are able, head to Gregory Saturday for the 6:30pm match.
UT Volleyball faces Judgment Week
The Gazelles are facing the most challenging part of the Big 12 schedule beginning this Wednesday at College Station. If they can get wins against A&M, Nebraska and Iowa State in their next 3 matches, they will likely be able to cruise to an outright Big 12 title, go undefeated in Big 12 play, and possibly receive the overall #1 seed for the NCAA tournament. Winning 2 of 3 will probably be enough to get the outright conference title and only slightly impact the chance of getting one of the #1 seeds.
Red River Rivalry - Volleyball Style
The Gregory Gazelles (Texas Volleyball) will take on the McCasland Maggots (OU Volleyball) this Saturday at noon. Your Texas football ticket shown at the door gets you $3 admission.
Volleyball Gets a HUGE Win!
The Gazelles ended a 20 year drought in Lincoln, Nebraska with a 25-22, 18-25, 25-17, 25-17 victory over #6 Nebraska. The last time Texas won in Lincoln was 1988. Interestingly enough, that year is the last year Texas Volleyball won a national championship.
Volleyball opens up Big 12 Play This Week
The Gregory Gazelles begin defense of their Big 12 Championship Wednesday night at Gregory Gym. #24 ranked Baylor comes to town with an 11-0 record. First serve is at 6pm
The Gazelles continue their home stand Friday night at 6:30 against tenth ranked Iowa State in a rematch of last year's regional final.
Volleyball Season Opener This Weekend
#2 Texas Volleyball opens their season at Long Beach State this weekend. The Gazelles will be facing #23 Long Beach State on Saturday night and #15 San Diego on Sunday evening.
Volleyball's Quest for The Final Four Continues...
This weekend it's the regionals at Gregory Gym. Our Gazelles have their work cut out for them as they have two PAC-10 teams and a Big 12 foe waiting to end their dreams of a final four.
I'm reminded of Bum Phillips back in the days when the Oilers came close but couldn't make the Superbowl....we have been knocking on the door and this year it's time to kick the son of a bitch in! That's how I feel going into this weekend.
Texas Volleyball's Quest for the Final Four
It begins tonight at 6:30 at Gregory Gym against Lamar. If you can make it out, the Gazelles need our help.
Tonight against Lamar will probably be little more than a practice match. I expect Wichita State to dispatch Rice in the 4:30 game today. If that's the case, the Gazelles will draw a very tough 2nd round opponent, Wichita State. Wichita was 29-0 going into last weekend's conference tournament where they were upset. Single game tickets for this weekend went on sale today, 471-3333.
Next weekend is the regional at Gregory Gym. General admission tickets still available. Tickets for the regional
UT Volleyball Receives #3 Seed
In a sport where playoffs actually determine a champion, UT Volleyball received the overall #3 seed and #1 seed in the Austin regional. The Gazelles will play in Austin this Friday and Saturday in 1st and 2nd round action. They host Lamar Friday night and will face the winner of Wichita State and Rice on Saturday.

Volley for the Cure Wednesday
The Gregory Gazelles, also known as the UT women's volleyball team, will take on OU, also known as ousux, on Wednesday night at 6pm in a match billed as Volley for the Cure.
This event is a great thing that NCAA women's athletics is doing for breast cancer awareness. Last February the women's hoops team had a Think Pink night when the Horns took down #8 Baylor. Now NCAA volleyball teams are getting into the act. Tickets are $3 if you buy in advance and you are suppose to wear pink.
Volleyball vs Baylor Wednesday
Saturday night while Texas was dismantling CU in Boulder, the Gregory Gazelles (aka Texas Volleyball) were dismantling Kansas State, 3-0. In so doing, they turned a 3 way tie (between UT, KSU & BU) for 2nd place in the Big 12 into just a tie between UT and BU. Wednesday night at Gregory Gym at 6:30pm, the Gazelles will look to move into sole possession of 2nd place when the Lady Bears come to town.
Volleyball Home Opener This Week
The Gazelles open at home this week hosting the Time Warner Invitational. The Gazelles are ranked #3 in the nation returning to that spot after Stanford suffered a 4 set defeat to unranked Saint Louis last weekend. Coach Elliott gave me a personal call on my home phone yesterday requesting I invite friends and neighbors. So I'm inviting the BON community.
$4 Web coupons for both night's matches at Bevo Bargains.
Volleyball in Omaha
Just a reminder that our Gregory Gazelles (UT Volleyball) will be in Omaha this weekend participating in the AVCA Showcase.

Texas Tops Preseason Volleyball Poll
Bumped. Go Gazelles.
Texas volleyball was voted #1 by the Big 12 volleyball coaches.
The GazellesTM have 4 players named to the preseason all Big 12 Team, Juliann Faucette, Lauren Paolini, Ashley Engle and Destinee Hooker. Juliann is named co-Player of the Year. New recruit Rachael Adams is named Freshman of the Year. This marks the 3rd year in a row Texas has the Freshman of the Year (Engle and Faucette were the previous two).
Also Volleyball magazine's preseason poll has the Gazelles ranked #3 behind Stanford and defending National Champion Penn State. USC is ranked #4. Texas opens the season playing USC and Stanford.
2008 Volleyball Recruiting Class Ranked #2
The Gazelles signed the nation's #2 ranked recruiting class. The link requires a membership but I'm sure the news will be posted on texassports.com shortly.
Gregory Gazelles Dominate the Beach
The UT Volleyball duo of Ashley Engle and Kiley Hall won the Collegiate National beach volleyball championship today in San Diego. The girls took down the NU Cornbots, Jordan Larson and Tara Muller, in the semis and put the beatdown on Talor Carico and Jessica Gysin of USC in the finals 21-8, 21-12.
Congrats to the girls. And yes there is a picture if you click the link....

Volleyball Spring Update
A few months ago it was announced that the volleyball team would go through the spring practice season with 7 players while Destinee, Juliann and Pao skipped the spring semester to train with the Olympic team. Needless to say, I was not optimistic about how we would do in the games. The good news is we managed an 8-1 record for the spring.
The schedule was not terribly challenging. Of the 9 teams we played this spring about a third made the NCAA tournament last fall. That being said, when you remove 3 All Americans from your lineup and are playing with only 2 starters a weak schedule does not guarantee wins.
Lady Horns in the Big 12 Tourney
Texas opened up Big 12 Tourney play as the 7th seed taking on 10th seed Texas Tech.
Texassports.com Story
They picked up right where they left out last Wednesday winning by 12. In other news, 5th seeded OU lost to 12th seeded Missouri. The first time a 12 seed has ever won a game in the Big 12 tourney.
