Testudo Times New Sam Cassell, Jr. Mixtape

Was bored tonight and came across a new mixtape of 2012 target Sam Cassell, Jr. that I thought everyone might like. Obviously it's a mixtape so they are only going to show highlights, but it nevertheless looks pretty impressive. Looks like he has a pretty smooth shot, which Maryland obviously could use more of sooner rather than later. I'm not really sure what to think as far as adding another guard to this year's class (I realize Turgeon and company know a lot more than everyone else on this site does about possible attrition, 2013 possibilities, etc.), but if we do add another guard I think Cassell would be the one who I prefer (Baltimore kid, good bloodlines, and nice height for a guard). Also, I have nothing to base this off of by any means, but I just get a sense that Cassell is going to crack some of the rankings when all is said and done (most likely the Rivals 150). I'm a fan of teams with height for the obvious mismatch reasons and it is intriguing to think of a possible line-up at some point in a game that could have Cassell, Faust, Layman, Len, and Cleare. Anways, hope you all enjoy. FEAR THE BEARD! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ypGGGuBDyMc

Testudo Times Wally Judge

Wasn't Wally Judge supposed to make a decision this past week? If he was leaning towards Rutgers, you would think that he would have announced this week, regardless of the news of Gary Williams retiring. That makes me think that we may be leading for him. Let's just hope whoever we bring in as head coach can close the deal. 75 75 75 75 75 75 75 75 75 75 75 75 75 75 75 75 75

Testudo Times Frank Martin

I had read from a couple different sites that Frank Martin's name has been thrown around in the Miami head basketball coaching search. Frank Martin is currently the coach at Kansas State for those who don't follow college basketball that closely, which got me to thinking: if he does indeed take the Miami job, does that mean that his players would be able to transfer (i.e. Wally Judge) if they so choose without having to sit out a year? I'm not exactly sure what effect it has when a coach leaves for another school, but I'd have to imagine it'd be similar to when a coach leaves and a recruit is able to get out of their committment. If anyone has any info, please share!

Testudo Times Gibbs/Faust

Now that the high school basketball season is starting to wind down I was curious to see if anyone knew how Gibbs and Faust did in their senior years.  Anyone have any idea what their stats are and what individual honors they received as far as all-state, etc?

Testudo Times Torrey Smith: 1st Rounder???

Was on my lunch break and was watching ESPN when I saw that Mel Kiper, Jr's first mock draft came out and he had Torrey Smith going in the late first round (I believe pick #27) to the Atlanta Falcons.  Looks like he made the right decision.  Good to see another Terp going in the first round (hopefully)...let's just hope he does better than DHB has done so far.

Testudo Times Rock 'n Roll Part II

Now that the University of Maryland has both a new school president and athletic director, is there any way they would think about letting the band play "Rock 'n Roll Part II" again?  That was one of the best things to witness as a fan and as a student when I went to Maryland.  It gets the crowd excited and creates tradition within the school.  Hearing the current students try to hum the song is pathetic...

What do you all think?

Testudo Times Baru replacement options?

ESPN had this story out yesterday:

http://sports.espn.go.com/ncaa/recruiting/basketball/mens/news/story?id=5890855

Now that Baru is headed elsewhere and Hubert is still up in the air, I was wondering if anyone knew anything about these write-ups:

Chris Freeman (Greenville, Ky./Muhlenberg County)
2011, PF, 6-5, 210 pounds
Freeman was a terror on the glass, pulling down 16 rebounds (seven offensive). He is a big-time athlete with a college-ready body. He repeatedly made athletic plays around the rim; he finished through contact, although he is a little undersized for a power forward heightwise. Freeman played with consistent energy and urgency on both ends of the floor. Freeman is being recruited by Indiana State, Murray State and Western Kentucky.

Otto Porter
2011, SF, 6-9, 200 pounds
The long, wiry and smooth forward is very skilled and a matchup problem due to his great size and skill level. Porter can score in a variety of ways from anywhere inside the arc with his superior midrange game. He knocks down jumpers off the catch and can make scoring plays off the dribble like a 6-3 wing, but his 6-9 frame allows him to shoot over smaller defenders like they are invisible. He also hits pull-up jumpers going left or right, has the handle to beat his man, and can finish with great body control or pass the ball on the money to an open teammate. He finished with 29 points, 13 rebounds and eight steals in a 71-45 win over Graves County (Ky.). Porter has already taken official visits to Missouri and Georgetown, while Seton Hall, Mississippi, Kansas and Missouri State are also all making a push for him.

Uncommitted 6-7 PF Luke Mergerson (Duncanville,Texas/Duncanville) is an under-the-rim finisher who plays with great urgency. He scores around the rim out to about 15 feet and rebounds at a steady rate on both ends. Mergerson went for 15 points and 19 rebounds against Louisville Ballard.

• Superathletic and strong 6-11 center Lekan Ayaji (Quality Education Academy) was terrific against Christ School. He rebounded at rim level and power dunked drop-off passes to go along with a decent looking turn shot over his left shoulder. Ajayi's game is still in the developmental stages on the offensive end, but his upside is off the charts. Tennessee, Wake Forest, Seton Hall, Florida State, Florida and Kansas are all involved.

Freeman seems a little small and it has Porter as a small forward, so I'm not sure if it would be an ideal fit, but if you have any feedback I'd be curious to hear.

Also, what are the odds of having a 2012 PF/C reclassify to this class and potentially join the Terps, similar to what happened with one of Pitt's recruits?

Testudo Times So let me get this straight...

Tomorrow night's game vs. Duke will have recruits Quinn Cook, Hopkins, Josh Selby, Haukur Palsson, and possibly CJ Leslie.  Pe'Shon Howard will be in attendance.  The game will be live on ESPN at 9 o'clock in a classic game vs. Duke for a share of the ACC regular season title for the entire nation to see.  Terps are ranked and are on a roll.  It's senior night.  There is going to be a "gold out".  Gary Williams is in the running for ACC coach of the year.  The message boards have been unusually optimistic.  Terrell Stoglin finally won his state championship.  Scott Van Pelt has been giving us insane love.  Andy Katz has been blowing us up.  The Dukie Jay Bilas has been giving us love.  Greivis Vasquez is in the running for not only ACC POY but also the Naismith.  Bruce Campbell is tearing it up at the combine.

Did I miss anything else!?

Damn it feels good to be a Terp!!!

Testudo Times Wow

I was on the internet just now and randomly stumbled in to the link below:

All I can say is damn.  These shoes look nice, and I was wondering if anyone knew anything about whether or not UA had any intentions to release these to the public, and if so, when?

Apparently I also need 12 more words in order to be able to post this, so hopefully this last sentence did the trick!
