In Turge We Trust

Do we trust the after-Gary Terps? In my opinion, definitely. Left with nothing to start with, Turge has recruited extremely well. Good young talent with no attitudes, just play hard, practice hard, and learn. The Terps are strong on defense, most notably in rebounding.

Our offense is inconsistent, no shooters, turnovers, and low free throw percentage. But what do we expect. These kids are young. They act like a team, but play offense with too many rotations.

In my humble opinion, Turge is on track, maybe ahead of schedule. He knows what he is doing. He has a plan. Good recruiting coming in, and a young team that will mature.

Let's build a national power. Just be patient.

The polls just came out and we are on the verge of cracking the top 25. AP has us 31st, Coaches have us 30th, and ESPN Power has us 28th.

With a win over Florida State at home on Wednesday and Miami on the road this weekend, I would be surprised if we did not make the top 25.

Although making the top 25 now is nice, and brings some exposure to the team and coach, it is not critical to have. However, it would be nice.

It would be nice to see what the fans think will be our highest ranking this season before the NCAA tournament.

I am going with 16th.

Looking at the future basketball team next year and the potential they have and the expectations we have, I thought about the best Terp teams of all time, considering our expectations at the time.

Here is my list

Overachievers: NCAA National Championship of 2001: I can't imagine anyone disagreeing with this selection.

Underachievers: Lefty's 1974 team that lost to NC State in the ACC tournament championship. Although this is probably unfair because only one team from each conference went to the Tourney. Still, that could of been the beginning of the UCLA of the East.

The teams led by Albert King of the late 70s should of been better but IMHO were handicapped by Lefty being out coached by Dean Smith. Also, the Len Bias teams of the mid 80s had the best Terp player of all time but that's it.

Over / Under for Wins

For the Terps' basketball team 2012/13, I like 21 1/2 wins. Over or under?

For the Terps' football team, in the same year, I like 4 1/2 wins. Over or under?

I like Turgeon so much and he seems to be able teach kids quite successfully. Even though we are young, I except us to make a good run towards post season with the NIT more likely than the NCAA tourney.

I have a little hope that Edsall will turn things around this year. He can only go up since last year was rock bottom.
