Pride Of Detroit Adding to the theme....

Rather we like to admit it or not, after what some deem a successful season our LIONS now have a label. As a team we are the Detroit Lions, but within our team we have a “High Powered Offence” and a “Dirty Defense“.

The start of the 2011-2012 season the Lions D line went out looking for a name, the fans delivered Detroit’s “Silver Crush“. During the season I believe the media labeled the Lions Defense as” Detroit’s Dirty D”. As sports fans some see “Dirty” while others see “TENACIOUS”. Call it what you will but as diehard Lions fans some of us like the theme. So Roll On….

Anyone feel that adding Cortland Finnegan only adds to the theme.

Finnegan incidents are as followed-

-threw New York Giants wide receiver Steve Smith to the ground by his helmet.
-called for unnecessary roughness after hitting Denver Broncos guard Chris Kuper after Kuper's helmet was off.
-on field fight with Houston Texans wide receiver Andre Johnson.

Adding Cortland Finnegan to our already aggressive defenses style of play could be a complete “Personal Foul” nightmare, but then again it could also lead to a VERY SCARY defense.

Being an actual contributor to the team is much more important then a players “Style of Play” but you cannot deny Finnegan talent.

Pride Of Detroit Boys think about this…..

Boys think about this…..Our running back department is short of "star power" ….Best is "star power" and yes we may have decent guys behind him. But with J. Best health some what of a concern, he did experience a concussion in Fridays game, we could use some star power at the position.

Here is what I’m thinking……

With extra (lightly taken) bodies at QB, and not being able to keep everyone; Stanton and/or Robinson, should we try to trade someone even has to be Shaun Hill for Frank Gore…?

Why it works…..

We have an extra QB some where that could be trade bait…depends on how bad the Lions want Gore to determine WHICH QB is the bait.

F. Gore is currently in a hold out with San Francisco 49ers (contract dispute) and the next move could be a TRADE.

Why it doesn’t work …..

The Lions have had heavy QB injuries over the last few years…we may need our 2nd and 3rd string QB’s to play…

Do we have enough trade value in our QB depth?

Gore wants  to heavy compensated contact and he is 29.… which isn’t good for the Lions.

Opinions........ !!!!

Pride Of Detroit Dueling Linebackers......?

Dueling Linebackers......? Anyone else think that Lions management is currently playing the signing of Nick Barnett against Stephen Tulloch. Are the lions "forcing" Stephen into a quick decision? What do you guys think? Do you think  it will work?

Pride Of Detroit Draft raisers and fallers, Corner Back.

Draft raisers and fallers, Corner Back.

I know, I know you can't draft players by using "Wonderlic" scores.

In almost  every mock draft or article I've seen, Detroit is wanting a CB.

So scouts are saying that LSU CB Patrick Peterson, is falling due to his VERY  low "Wonderlic" score (9), will he fall to 13 probably not.

From Yahoo Sports (http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/news?slug=pfw-20110317_low_wonderlic_scores_ding_elite_nfl_prospects)

"Peterson plays like a low-test guy," one NFL decision maker told PFW on the condition he remain anonymous, "but [if] he's in 'cat' [man-to-man] coverage in the NFL, it's not as big of an issue as it will be for offensive guys."

"He's a press corner," another longtime evaluator said. "His strong suit is that he can run and press. He won't play for the Patriots, where he's disguising coverage after coverage, but I still think he can be a No. 1 shutdown corner."

A scout with deep knowledge of the kid said, "The more I'm around him, the more I love him even more. I love the kid, and I love the talent. But I don't like the way he plays with his back to the ball. He has an instinct issue, and I think it's tied to his mental [ability]. He can only handle so much. He's not a quick processor. It's a scary year to be drafting in the top 10 because they all have some issue."

Say Peterson falls to 13 and Nebraska CB Prince Amukamara is there also, what a dream scenario. Do you want a CB that may be limited to what his is now (Peterson),  or do you take a CB that is "smart" ("Wonderlic" score of 35) Amukamara.

Peterson was tied with the lowest score while Amukamara was among the top 10 highest.

Note: What do you think of this fan Post? Did I do an OK job? Thanks Eric

Poll
Do you take a "Dumb" CB (Peterson) with skills, or a "Smart" CB (Amukamara), that doesn't appear to have an equal skill set, but may understand how to play the game better....?

Pride Of Detroit Tomorrow

Every since the Lions won last week all I could do is think about the game this weekend. At work, "I thought about the game", during College Algebra class, "I thought about the game", trying to sleep, "I thought about the game", sacking the ol lady, "I thought about the game". With all the 5hit talking this week, I hope the LIONS KILL the jets, I'm talking a total blow out. I think the rest of the NFL will give us our respect then.We have all wanted the respect as fans for years, I think tomorrow we go and take it. CHARGE-------->>>>

GO LIONS "KILL the jets"

Pride Of Detroit NO....how about this defense !!!!!

No how about this defense –

                               Rolle/Berry(1.2)                       Delmas

Cromartie(Trade)                                                                       Pacman(UFA)/Wilson(2.2)

Sims/ Levy/Weatherspoon(2.2)                       Foote/Levy                        Peterson/Dizon

      Kanpman/Peppers/Avril        Jackson/Suh/Mccoy(1.2)         Hill            Vanden Bosch(UFA)

1.2 – Pick Suh/MCcoy if… you can pick up Rolle

2.2 - Draft up Weatherspoon if … you trade Sims for Cromatie and pick up Pacman/or play A. Henry or P/ Buchanon OR Draft Wilson if nothing happens

Pickups – Rolle, Vanden Bosch, Kampman,Peppers

What do you think, It’s a lot of moving parts but not far fetched !

Pride Of Detroit Adding Fred Taylor !!!

New England maybe likely to release tailback Fred Taylor during the offseason. Fred Taylor is due to earn a base salary of 2 million dollars next year. This makes him expendable in the back field with Laurence Maroney and Sammy Morris.

The Lions are likely to target a running back in FA or during the draft. Most mock draft have the lions taking a RB between rounds 3-5. I would think that Lions GM Martin Mayhew should be on the phone right now trading away our 5th rounder for Mr. Taylor. If New England is going to cut him we can sure up our running back need using our 5th round pick before he even hits the market. That leave picks 3,4, and our extra 5th free to fill valuable O-line, D-line and Secondary needs.

Fred Taylor is a very serviceable back and would be a good add to our current back field.

Kevin Smith/Fred Taylor (until Kevin get back)– Work Horse

Maurice Morris – Nice back up

Aaron Brown – Speedster

Now with that in mind let the Mock Drafts continue….!

Pride Of Detroit Drafting Ndamukong Suh....the defence looks like.....?

  • Left Defensive End Jason Hunter, Cliff Avril
  • Left Defensive Tackle Grady Jackson, Andre Fluellen
  • Right Defensive Tackle Sammie Hil, Landon Cohen
  • Right Defensive End Dewayne White, Turk McBride
  • Will the starting line up be ...Jason Hunter, Ndamukong Suh,Sammie Hill,Dewayne White.

If Sammie lives up to his SIZE, that's some big guys in the middle clogging up the middle. With Julian Peterson, DeAndre Levy, Ernie Sims backing them up... it starts to put together a nice front. Having Louis Delmas ..who need lots of help, and a couple of other guys(HELP), we may have a decent defence next year.Getting guys like Daniel Bullocks and a few others back would help also. Whats your thoughts....?
