Joe Schad: Petrino Out
According to Joe Schad, Bobby Petrino is out as the head coach at Arkansas. I think this is the right decision and the AD's hand was somewhat forced by Petrino's outright lying to him and not disclosing the truth until contacted by the police. However, I did not actually think that they would go through with it. Good for Arkansas. Who do they go after now? malzahn seems like an obvious choice.

Smythe commits to Texas!
According to ESPN's Horns Nation, Smythe just committed to Texas while visiting Harson. This class really is shaping up to be a great one, even if it ends up being pretty small. Are we likely to get anymore commits this month or is it time to start waiting for some of the big fish out of state? Thoughts?

Texas-UCLA on ABC for most of the country.
Not that it matters much, since everyone else will get the game on ESPN, but it appears everyone except for those in Big Ten country and the Pacific Northwest will be getting Texas-UCLA over Nebraska-Washington (although it appears those who get it on ESPN might not get it in HD). It looks like Texas (and UCLA) is still a pretty good media draw, even if we have been struggling lately, especially when matched up with Nebraska.
TX and ND to Big Ten in 2014? (according to random Northwestern guy)
http://northwestern.rivals.com/showmsg.asp?fid=57&tid=162506546&mid=162506546&sid=901&style=2
I'm posting this because I think it would be the best option for Texas, given the athletics and academics. I doubt this guy has any particular knowledge, but it is interesting nontheless. The geography would certainly be less than ideal, but I think it would be great to be in a conference with large research oriented state schools and Nebraska. It would certainly hurt the baseball team, although I know the Big Ten has been trying to improve its baseball. Plus, maybe we'll get an easier path to the CWS once the separate brackets for the North start.
Texas Big XII Basketball Schedule Out
Obviously the Big XII is doing an 18 game round-robin schedule this year. 5 games will be on ESPN, 4 on ESPN2, 2 on CBS, and 1 on ESPNU. It looks like 3 games were not picked up and will appear on something called the Big 12 Network, which is apparently some collection of local TV stations. Isn't that what the Longhorn Network is for? I know 8-9 games are supposed to air on the LHN, but will they all be non-conference games?

Longhorn Network Starting to Contact High School Teams?
I just saw this article that suggests that the Longhorn Network is looking to televise a Brenham football game on September 1. I remember a lot of people talking about the possibilities/issues with showing high school games on the Longhorn Network, but I had not seen anything suggesting that it was starting to happen. I wonder how they will choose what teams/games to show. Thoughts?

Longhorn Network Shows - Update
It looks like the first news has come out about some of the shows that will be on the Longhorn Network:
This seems to be geared mainly to football, which makes sense considering that it what people will be most excited about. However, I assume that there will be a lot of shows geared to baseball/basketball during those seasons as well. I don't know about you, but I'm still excited about the possibilities.
Update: I emailed the public relations firm that is working with ESPN on pr and distribution. The response was:
From Keri Potts at ESPN:
“ESPN is in discussion with affiliates for distribution opportunities inside and outside Texas.”
I'll keep in touch and keep you all posted.

Big Ten gets first non-AAU member
Thought this was too funny not to post. I remember everyone making a big deal about the fact that the Big Ten would only invite AAU members into the conference. Well, apparently Nebraska just had it's AAU status revoked by a vote of the other AAU members (apparently all of the Big XII members and most - not all??? - of the Big Ten members voted to keep them, but they did not have the support of the necessary 1/3 of the membership. It does not really have anything to do with Texas, but I thought it was kind of funny that the Big Ten ended up inviting a non-AAU member even if they did not know it at the time (although they must have known Nebraska was under review).

Latest bracketology has Texas as a 1 seed.
http://espn.go.com/mens-college-basketball/bracketology
Maybe ESPN knows something we don't know and TT and Hamilton will be back on the 40 acres next year. However, it's more likely that they are just assuming that everyone is staying until they say otherwise. Hopefully this isn't just a sad reminder of what could have been in a couple of weeks. Either way, I'll remain positive until the clock strikes midnight...

OU fires Capel
Apparently OU had enough of Jeff Capel's losing and decided to go another direction. Any idea who they may go after? Perhaps Billy Gillespie? Would they be able to pull in a relatively big name from a BCS school? An up and comer from a mid-major (like Capel was)? It's amazing how far and how fast OU has fallen in men's basketball.

Best way to get cheap tickets for Sunday's game?
Hey guys. I've never been to a Browns game, but I'm hoping to change that in order to see Colt play on Sunday when I visit my wife's family in Cleveland. What is the best way to get reasonably priced tickets to the game? Do you expect it to sell out? Any sections I should aim for/avoid, either to get the best view of the game or to avoid freezing to death in a snow embankment? I appreciate any advice you can give me.
Orangebloods Realignment Timeline
Who knows how accurate it is, but I think it's worth the read. Very interesting stuff.
[Considering Chip Brown's been right on just about everything so far, his post-mortem report on the death and resurrection of the Big 12 is a must-read. It's going to be the definitive account until someone writes a book in a few years (which will, of course, likely be Chip Brown...) --BZ]
Fox Network wants to marry the Big XII?
Workman goes 59th to the Red Sox. I assumed he was gone anyway, but there is no way he's coming back after being drafted by a team with that much money and scouting.
Best way to get tickets to home games?
Hey Guys,
I have not been back to DKR since I graduated and I'm looking to go back for the UT-CU game (my fiance is a CU grad). What do you think is the best way to get tickets to the game? It looks like we might be able to get tickets through CU's alumni association for $94. But that seems pretty steep considering they're probably not very good tickets. Should I go with stubhub or is there a better way to get tickets?
Thanks in advance.
Trip to PNC Park
Hey guys. I'm driving past Pittsburgh to visit my in-laws in Cleveland in a couple of weeks and I'm making my fiance stop to attend a game at PNC Park because I've heard great things about the park and have never been to Pittsburgh.
I just wanted to see if you guys have any recommendations on where I should get tickets, where I should sit, and stuff to do before/after the game - espcially for food. While the best tickets are probably behind the dugout, I'm not looking to go all out. Just would like to have a good time without spending too much money.
Thanks in advance.
Auburn finally cans Tuberville
After almost firing him a few years ago, he went undefeated. Now he's getting fired after one losing season. It probably had a lot to do with Alabama currently being undefeated in Saban's second year than one bad season. I'm guessing he'll get another job in Div-1. What do you think about his job prospects, and are we sure Coach Boom is locked up no matter how much money Aurburn gives him?

BON - an oasis in the middle of Virginia
I just wanted to thank everyone involved in BON and that includes the various commentators. When I graduated from UT in 2005 and decided to attend law school out east, I never realized how much I would miss UT sports. It's almost impossible to keep up with anything in the Big 12, and this site does a great job of keeping me up to date on all things Longhorn. In a place where the "Saturday game of the week" always includes duke (yes, in football), I am very greatful.
