Lone Star Ball Beltran Traded to Giants?

Giants To Acquire Carlos Beltran? By Tim Dierkes [July 27, 2011 at 12:17pm CST]

It looks like Carlos Beltran is indeed going to the Giants, tweets Yahoo's Tim Brown, with logistics being worked out. Specifically, Brown's source says that there's "good likelihood" of Beltran going to the Giants. Just minor details remain, tweets SI's Jon Heyman. ESPN's Buster Olney tweets that the two teams are at the one-yard line, while Brown reminds usthat a 24-hour waiting period applies since Beltran has a full no-trade clause. The Phillies are just barely hanging on for Beltran, according to multiple reports.

A key development may have been the Giants' willingness to include center field prospectGary Brown, tweets Jon Paul Morosi of FOX Sports.

Economic Impact of a Trip to the World Series

Does anyone know what this will do to the wallets of Greenburg/Ryan? Just curious of some type of estimate from home game proceeds and merchandise. Do you think they signed the TV deal too soon?

First of all, yes I know I am a weather nerd. But so what? Instead of filling up everyone's facebook pages constantly when weird weather happens, I decided to create this group. I will not be posting everyday weather forecasts here. I will only update when significant weather is going to happen (i.e. severe weather outbreaks, winter weather, etc.). I will normally post a one time status on my regular facebook to tell you to check here.

A slow moving low pressure system will be moving for the DFW region starting now (pouring outside as I type).

The game for tomorrow and Saturday night looks highly unlikely.

This would cause a serious problem with the schedule.

We need the rain but why now?

Per ESPN
"The Athletics and Cardinals have completed a trade that sends outfielder Matt Holliday to St. Louis in exchange for third baseman Brett Wallace, outfielder Shane Peterson and right-handed pitcher Clayton Mortensen, sources confirmed to ESPN The Magazine's Buster Olney.

In addition, sources said the Athletics will throw in $1.5 million to the Cardinals."

On one hand I am pumped the area is getting behind this team, on the other hand I hate bandwagon fans.

I could see how someone could rank the Angels higher than the Rangers because of injuries, but Seattle?

Lone Star Ball The problem with the Rangers getting good.

HUGE Rangers and Cowboys fan. My attitude towards everything hinges on what these teams do that game.

Here lies the problem. When the Cowboys lose, I am in a semi-depression for the rest of the day. Then pissed off the entire Monday. By Tuesday I am still ignoring any sports media but coming out of it slightly. My wife hates football season.

It would not be so bad if I had not experienced the highs of the early 90's. The SuperBowl wins are a bitter sweet curse, if you will for the present.

This brings me to the Rangers. I have been raised a fan, I have had access to season tickets nearly all my life. My Papa had season tickets at Arlington Stadium. I lived at Arlington Stadium every summer. I myself have had season tickets for the past 9 years. But I have been reserved to the fact that the Rangers are nothing more than a bottom tier team (except for the three times in the late 90's). Right now if they lose I simply avoid BBTN or Sportcenter for the night.

So this brings me to my dilema. If and when the Rangers get good, every loss will be a deeper emotional injury. Every loss in September and October will be even more heartbreaking.

But what am I talking about. Bring on the tension, bring on the stress. I am ready for some "Red October" again!!!

Lone Star Ball Salty keep on hitting, bring us some pitching!

We have heard and talked about Salty's "potential". This year feels like the year he will finally put it all together in the big leagues. It could not have come at a better time. If he struggles this year, the Rangers are left with a player with huge potential without results. They could trade him for a decent haul but with many question marks on both sides of the trade as to what he really is. Or they could sit on him and wait while wasting the talent of Teagarden and Ramirez stuck on the bench and the minors.

There is no question as to what to do with Salty later this year or in the off season. Trade Salty for major league ready pitching!

We have a great offense. His bat would be very nice, but I think Teagarden's defense and work with the pitchers would be a much bigger asset to the team. If Salty continues on the path he looks like he will take this year, he will net a HUGE return.

Not to mention Max would be a well above average backup catcher.

So keep swinging Salty, every hit is one step closer to more quality pitching.

Lone Star Ball Miles did it, I guess I will. TSF

I miss the good ol'days on the ESPN board. Keeping up with how many posts we had vs the other teams boards. Looking for "GOTD's" on the other boards. Suffering through attacks from iditos on the Mariner board.

3 Kids, a different occupation and more responsibilities elsewhere, have left me checking the site daily but not posting much.

But here are a quick hits.

Short term

1. Jon Freaking Daniels is screwing up in a major way giving up on Nelson Cruz/Chris Davis. One of these guys, if not both will hit 40 HRs in a MLB season, but it will not be for the Rangers. Andruw Jones? You have to be kidding me! It sounds like Hicks might be pulling for a name that will sell a few more jerseys. IDIOT!

2. The starters will be better than expected, the bullpen will be our problem, especially the closing spot.

3. Holland will exceed expectations.

4. Elvis Adrus will be sent down for struggling at the plate.

Long term

We need an owner who is willing to at least spend at least $80 million. Is Cuban still looking to buy a team? I am not kidding. He would be better than what we have. No matter how good our farm system is, if we cannot keep veterans or add some pieces to get us over a hump it is all for not.

Blogging The Boys Pittsburg Weather for Sunday= Snow and VERY cold

It looks like the passing game might have some obstacles on Sunday. Barber and Witten will be very much needed. Parker isn't exactly the type of back you look for in the snow. So we might have an advantage.

Here is the forecast for Sunday right now. I will monitor and update the forecast as it gets closer.

Sunday: A chance of snow showers. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 28. Chance of precipitation is 40%.

Sunday Night: Mostly cloudy, with a low around 16.

Lone Star Ball Olympics No Baseball?

I am rather confused. I thought remembered that they dropped baseball as a sport for the next couple Olympics cycles. Then the US Olympic team including Teagarden was announced, so I thought maybe it was reinstated. But then during the opening ceremony they said it was not an event. So what is going on? Is Teagarden on some symbolic made up team?

Lone Star Ball Milton Bradley

I am glad to see him start to catch fire. Looks like he should be worth a few good prospects come June. Say what you want about most of JD's trades (I agree most suck). But he has gotten pretty good at giving players second chances with the one year deal and striking prospect gold at the trade deadline. But it seems as if all that brilliance goes by the way side during the offseason.

Lone Star Ball 20 Ticket Package at 1/2 Gate Price

It is that time of the year again! Being outside, with the family, smell of hotdogs, the sound of the crack of the bat, that is right, BASEBALL!

Section 326, Row 1, aisle seats! The picture I have attached is as good as I could get, but the view from the seats are better. Yes these are in the upper deck. But they are better than most lower deck seats. Do you see the rail in the picture? That is where you sit behind. Tons of leg room! These seats are always in the shade! They are directly lined up with homeplate and only the rail is in front of you!

Here is the best part!

Individual game price is $20, but we can let you have these for… not $20 (facevalue), not $15 each BUT $10!!!

Here are the following ticket dates included in this package. BUT! These are season tickets so, you have the right to exchange these tickets for equal or lesser value to any other games if these date do not work for you! So actually, you can choose which games you go to! Just go to the ticket gates at the Ballpark to switch.

Lone Star Ball Brewers offer to Texas for Gagne

Delivering a strikeout pitch
Melvin's offering to Texas can't bring trade for Gagne
By TOM HAUDRICOURT

Posted: July 31, 2007
If a no-trade clause actually meant "no trade," the Milwaukee Brewers believe they would have acquired reliever Eric Gagne from Texas before the non-waiver deadline Tuesday afternoon.

Brewers/MLB
Related Coverage
MLB Standings
Texas sent Gagne to Boston after the veteran closer dropped his no-trade clause to that team in exchange for the Red Sox guaranteeing an additional $2.5 million to cover incentives in his contract. That agreement raised Gagne's pay for 2007 to $9.85 million.

"If it was a strict no-trade, then we would have had a better chance," said general manager Doug Melvin, who was told the Brewers were the fall-back position if the Red Sox and Gagne couldn't reach an understanding (the New York Mets were told the same thing).

Melvin, who acquired reliever Scott Linebrink from San Diego last week, jumped in hard on Gagne on Monday after the Rangers called to gauge his interest. Melvin wouldn't say how Gagne might have been used but figured another high-quality arm couldn't hurt an overworked bullpen.

After Melvin exchanged ideas with Texas general manager Jon Daniels Monday night and again Tuesday morning, a proposed deal was reached. The Brewers would send outfielder Tony Gwynn Jr., left-hander Zach Jackson (9-7, 4.69 earned run average at Class AAA Nashville) and another minor-leaguer to the Rangers for Gagne.

"We had a deal on the table," Melvin said. "We didn't want to bid against ourselves but we were prepared to up our offer. (Daniels) told me, 'We're seriously considering your offer.' We thought we had a chance.

"When he didn't come back and ask for more, that's when I got the feeling (Gagne) was going to Boston. At 2 o'clock they called us and said Gagne had approved the deal to Boston. I had anticipated that was a possibility.

"We said, 'If it happens, it happens. If it doesn't, it doesn't.' "

The Brewers were not on Gagne's no-trade list and therefore he could not have stopped a deal to Milwaukee.

"That's where no-trade clauses don't mean that much," Melvin said. "Usually they'll waive them if there's some form of compensation."

Melvin noted that Gagne's agent, Scott Boras, has several clients playing for Boston. Boras was quoted as saying Gagne "wanted to be in a playoff environment," ignoring the fact that both the Brewers and Mets were in first place and Boston had to cough up an extra $2.5 million to make the deal.

To get Gagne, the Red Sox sent left-hander Kason Gabbard and minor-league outfielders David Murphy and Engel Beltre to the Rangers.

"They got two players they're putting in the big leagues," said Melvin, referring to Gabbard and Murphy. "They did a nice deal."

Melvin said missing out on Gagne would have been more disappointing if not for the acquisition of Linebrink from the Padres.

"We got a pitcher we really like in Linebrink early on," said Melvin, who indicated that he had no other serious trade talks before the deadline. "We'd be more disappointed if we didn't get Scott earlier."

Manager Ned Yost admitted that trades often can energize a team. And the Brewers certainly were sagging after a brutal 2-6 trip to Cincinnati and St. Louis that included four last at-bat victories by the opposition.

But Yost said his players must look within to pull out of their slide.

"The tendency in a locker room, especially at this time, is to start screaming for help," Yost said. "In reality, we need to look at each other and realize this is the team that needs to get it done.

"We've got the talent here to do it and we need to do it ourselves. You can't be looking outside that locker room for help to come get it done."

Lone Star Ball Braves Prospect Rankings?

Lone Star Ball The Most Important Week In Rangers History?

If JD plays his cards right (not a lot of history to support that he will) this could be a week that changes the face of this franchise. The Rangers have the ammo to make significant additions. This is not a normal trade deadline in which a team with a losing record has parts that other teams want. Texas has players on the block that are significantly better than the rest of the field (Tex, Lofton, Gagne). Ranger fans could look back on this week in 2 years and say man this was the Hershel Walker moment in the Rangers timeline.

Then again this is the Rangers, so get ready to drop the soap and get screwed.
