Correct me if I am wrong but I think Oklahoma is going to come close to challenging MSU as being the only team to have 4 players drafted in the first 8 picks of the draft although I think they are only projected to get 3 in the first 8. Just an interesting bit of trivia and im not 100% sure its true but none the less, 4 MSU players in the first 8 picks is pretty cool.

[Bumped. Commitment #4 for the 2011 class. -KJ]

Connor Cook. 2011 Quarterback out of Ohio. Other offer was from Miami(Ohio).

Seems somewhat similar to this guy.

The Only Colors Trey Zeigler question

I know this question has probably been asked multiple times but does anyone have a clear answer to how MSU has room to include trey zeigler in 2010?

From what I can tell from the schollie situation:

Seniors: lucas,allen,summers, herzog
Juniors: green, lucious, roe

Sophmores: Sherman, nix

Freshman: byrd, guana, appling, payne

Count them up and I see 13 scholarships. I have heard izzo say they are stilling looking to add one more and zeigler seems to have never said anything indicating a scholarship situation but the only way I see him coming to msu are by way of:
A) someone leaving for the NBA. lucas? summers? I doubt it.
B) Atrrition in the program. herzog graduating and not staying for a 5th year to ride the pine? maybe.

C) Trey come to MSU w/o a scholarship and pay for the first year of school before being put on scholarship after lucas/allen/summers/herzog are gone.

Today I read an article saying he was "comfortable" with MSU and his top 7 schools (uofm,UCLA,Arizona,ASU,duke,MSU, CMU) are all even. Also, although I am sure this isnt exactly what he meant but when zeigler said how cool it would be to have another fab 5 in college (PG appling SG byrd SF zegiler PF Guana C Payne...hey I can dream can't I?) was there a chance MSU crossed his mind? I really hope he takes a visit to MSU and strongly considers going here but unless I am missing something, I do not see how MSU can get him w/o A,B or C coming true.

The Only Colors football observations from the breslin

I was fortunate enough to get my izzone seats right next to the football recruits for this game. At one point Javon Ringer got an izzone shirt from someone and started going through the izzone behind the announcers high fiving and getting pats on the back and such. After that, gholston, who also received a green and white shirt via somewhere and started his stardom treatment with ringer. Followed by that the izzone started chanting we want gaston (3 star Bruce Gaston Jr. DT chicago) and boy if that guy can move off the line like he moved out of his seat to follow gholston in the izzone, I want him on MSU's team. As far as I can tell he certainly didn't mind the star treatment he received by the izzone; it was certainly cool to watch. There were others that went with him but I did not know them all, but Mike Dorsey (3 star Safety from warren ohio, commited to WV) was another who seemed to be enjoying himself over there. I am curious to see where all these guys end up and I know the izzone did their part to help bring them to MSU.

All in all it was a fun game to watch. Seeing izzo talk with ibok before the game was cool, likely about how he could use him against tisdale like he did last year @illinois. Ringer and gholston talked a bit, cleaves and walton seemed like best friends. There were definently a lot of old faces. My father was also at the game in the upper bowl and happened to be sitting next to baseball recruits; apparently they don't get as good of seats.

I was upset I had to leave early to go work the hockey game but that didn't turn out horrible either. Despite giving up a 3-0 lead and having to fight back to force overtime at 4-4, MSU won in the shootout (which they seemingly have struggled to do all year). They also honored Jeff Lerg too who definently would have been nice have with a 3 goal lead. I saw him up close after the game and its amaizing what he accomplished at 5'7. He really is a short guy and regardless of that, with his talent I am sure he will find a place to play somewhere (maybe he already has, I'm not sure).

The Only Colors Football, the universe and everything

Big couple of days in the MSU football world. Bittersweet news with losing arguably the best recruiter on the staff and as it's been stated before, as far as on the practice field goes, he is probably replaceable due to him being a qb coach at a RB coaching position (although he seemed to do ok with ringer, caulcrick, baker, caper). Maybe I'm just being bitter for wanting to keep him on board but as far as the sweet part goes I do wish him the best of luck at CMU, I really hope he does a good job there.

Then the good news with Greg Jones announcing he is coming back today which is fantastic; I don't know if I can imagine what the defense would be like after the already lacking secondary graduates all those players and and a Greg Jones departure.

Then the other news with Leggett, Jamihr Williams and Brynden Trawick transferring along with ishmyl johnson leaving the team. It is crazy how much different that backfield is compared to a few months ago. At one point there was jimmerson, ray, baker, caper, anderson, legget and winston. Now it is just baker and caper along with the incoming freshmen hill and bell.

I don't know if there will be a more important year for MD than next year. Having to rebuild 60% of the o-line and most of the secondary will be a tall task after both units were par at best throughout the year(although as far as the o-line goes, from what I remember the pass protection was good and run blocking good at times but never really spectacular). Will the schedule help MSU out enough to keep msu winning and msu fans happy?

Looking at the schedule;  in my opinion, the games msu "will" win; WMU, @?FAU, Northern Colorado, illinois, (although you can't seem to take anything for granted these days). The games msu "should" win, Purdue, minny. The games I believe to be toss ups, Nd, @uofm, @NW. The games MSU will probably lose wisc, @iowa, @PSU. Based on that I would likely predict a 7-5 record with losses to iowa, psu, uofm, wisc, and ND although ND and uofm I really don't know what they will be so they will be hard to judge as of now.The optimist in me wants to say 9-3 with losses to wisc, iowa and psu. Whatever, we'll find out next fall.

And finally, gholston gets his (well deserved I think) 5 star status on rivals. I don't think MSU has gotten a player ranked and hyped this high since the the rogers, duckett days. I try to take all these rankings with a grain of salt but I really am excited for a player of this calibur to play for MSU. I know we won't know much of anything until he steps out onto the field for the first time but he truly does look special.

Schedule thoughts? the attrition? recruits filling those spots? too long of a post? what say you

The Only Colors Kalin Lucas' Drive Against Gonzaga

Ok If you ignore the blurry start, the guys head that got in my way and the general shaky camera skills I have, it really isn't that bad of a video. I got the important part I suppose. Again I know it is pretty basic and not very crisp but if people care enough I will do my best to get videos of critical junctures at games in the future.

The Only Colors Adrien Payne down to two...

...and Michigan State is not one of them(although spartanmag says the "information may be a bit premature" but I am not getting my hopes up). Looks like Kentucky and and WV are the finalist and Kansas will still get their visit from him. All that was via a rivals article. I always figured he was kind of a long shot anyway. Either way this makes it down to Zeigler and Horford for that last spot and I wonder who MSU will get, if either(assuming not much of a chance on Leslie). And speaking of Leslie, is there any new word on him?
