The Blake Griffin Era

Jun 30, 2009 Jul 22, 2011 20 434

After years of bickering and arguing with Laker fans who annoyed the hell out of me, I joined the clipper nation in 2002.

I am extremely excited for the Blake Griffin Era and the start of a new era in Clipper Basketball.

Interesting read, the writer speculates that the Warriors should have tried to trade for Baron at the deadline. He also believes that there package would have been better than what we received from Cleveland?

Vlad Rad & Dan Gadzuric for Baron and the 2010 1st round pick

I'm curious to hear your opinions. Would you rather have the expiring contracts of Vlad and and Dan or Mo Williams?

I personally prefer Mo Williams, we still have plenty of cap space in the 2011 offseason, we need some talent on the roster rather than expiring deals.. Cap space is worthless if you are a bad team, we learned last yr you can have all the cap space and young talent in the world, but no big free agent will come to a team unless they are close to winning.

In my opinion, making a run at Dwill, CP3, and Howard next season all hinges on the play of the team. Even with our young assets and cap space none of those guys will be interested if we are in the lottery again, making the playoffs is very crucial and Mo Williams gives us a better chance to make the playoffs than expiring contracts like Dan Gadz and Vlad Rad.

Clips Nation We Need to help Clipper Darrell

http://twitter.com/#!/clipperdarrell

Not sure how many of you follow Clipper Darrell on twitter, but he apparently has some beef with the way the clippers recently handled his seats.    I don't know all the details about his displeasure, but he is claiming that he will no longer attend games.

Does anyone on this site have anymore details?  Does anyone have access to some people within the Clipper organization where we can voice our displeasure regarding this situation.

DTS has been making a killing off this team for years, the least he can do is give our #1 fan and loyal cheerleader a free seat.  Let's help Darrell get this mess straightened out, he's the face of Clipper Nation, he deserves it.

Clips Nation Rasual Butler: A great teamate

Lost in all the Blake Griffin and Eric Gordon hype is Rasual Butler.  I'm joking, but honestly this guy deserves some props.  The guy has had like 10 straight DNP's after being a regular rotation player/starter in his first 100 games as a clipper.  I pulled his tweets below from Twitter and the guy is always so positive, it makes me root for the guy.   He could easily complain or become a mute, but he continues to support his teamates.  For those of you on twitter start following Rasual, seems like a good dude.

I'm a firm believer that the success of this team is definitely due to improved talent and effort, but chemistry and comradery play a huge factor.  There are no bad apples on this team and everyone seems to get along, I definitely enjoy this and it makes it easier to root for the team.

Hopefully we rout Minny tomorrow so Sool can get some well deserved run.

obviously there is more laker talk than clipper talk, but lots of high praise from BS and Adande, regarding Blake, EJ, and yes even some hope for us Baron supporters.

"Clipper games are more exciting than Laker games." JA Adande

Check it out.

Great piece by Hoopsworld on the state of the Lakers and Clips, we are only 6 games out, get well soon Kaman, we can make a run.

I already hated Andre Miller, but WOW. This is much worse than I initially thought. How did he only get one game and Cook 2? This is absolutely ridiculous.

Much props to Blake for not going awol after the takedown, hopefully our short handed clips take it out on the Queens tonight.

Clips play Portland on TNT, 1/20, can't wait. Hopefully we send some scrubs like Collins out there for retaliation.

Simmons starts the column with his usual clipper bashing and rants, but follows it by saying Blake is a top 4 PF, the clipps could make the playoffs, Blake will win ROY, and that we are the 8th most intriguing team to watch.

We are all excited for the season and it seems that our biggest critic also is on board.

Clips Nation Steph Curry Sprains his ankle

Sounds like a minor sprain, but this could potentially give our guy EJ the chance to snag that final spot.

I think most of of us are all in agreement that it should be Westbrook that goes home, but this only strengthens EJ's case.  Coach K has to realize this scenario, imagine they cut EJ and and Steph Curry's ankle acts up again, who will be the shooter off the bench.  Guys tweak their ankle all the time, Team USA can't rely on only having one shooter, Coach K you gotta cut Westbrook.

Stephen Curry sprained his left ankle near the end of Wednesday's scrimmage with Team USA.
The team is calling it a mild sprain and Curry is listed as day-to-day. He's competing with Eric Gordon and Russell Westbrook to make the final cut before the World Championships start on Aug. 28, so the ankle could prevent him from making the team. And for prospective fantasy owners, that could be a blessing in disguise.

Chad Ford just posted a link on how the clippers can land Lebron.

It's restricted to insiders only, can someone pull this and paste the article for the rest of us non insiders to read?

Thanks.

Clips Nation Add Kobe Bryant to our slim list of landing a big FA

http://ken-berger.blogs.cbssports.com/mcc/blogs/entry/11838893/20627942?source=rss_blogs_NBA

Obviously the odds are very slim, but you never know.  Kobe has entertained this idea before.  This would be such a bitter sweet situation, finally putting a winner on the floor but having to root for Kobe, a guy I have been rooting against for years.

At this point, I'll take anyone that helps us win, I'm sick of the losing.

OKLAHOMA CITY -- A significant domino tumbled Friday in the 2010 free-agent guessing game, but it didn’t involve who you might think. It came in the form of an important proclamation from a 6-foot-8, 64-year-old man with a gruff voice and an artificial hip.

Lakers coach Phil Jackson told NBA.com Friday that barring health concerns, he expects to be back coaching the Lakers with a new contract next season.

Jackson will undergo a physical exam after the season, as he does ever year, but said Friday he doesn’t expect health or financial issues to cloud his future.

“Probably not,” Jackson said. “I go at the end of the year for a medical checkup now. There are a couple issues I deal with, and if they're all ‘go,’ then I’ve cleared myself. If it’s a warning situation, then I’ll have to have another consideration.”

Jackson was less forthcoming during his pre-game media briefing Friday night before the Lakers played the Thunder.

"No decision, no leaning at all," Jackson said. "I'm leaning against a wall. ... I'll do the whole physical checkup after the season and then make a decision. It's pretty easy, It'll go pretty quick. It's a two-day thing and then I'll be back and see what happens."

He reiterated that his health is "fine," that he anticipates a clean physical after the season, and that he's not concerned about the financial aspect of the negotiation. "There's some ways around that, and I think that we can find a way to make that work," Jackson said.

The Zen Master also cleverly noted that it was he who compelled the owner, Dr. Jerry Buss, to re-sign Lamar Odom last summer -- hinting that it would be difficult for him to walk away only one year into that commitment. "At a time when it's tough in this league, he took the step," Jackson said.
If the Lakers were to win another title, Jackson said, "It's imperative to give it another shot. But that's a lot of ifs in there. There's four playoff [series] you have to get through before you can say, 'We won,' and have a chance to do something special again. ... How we make it through the year has a lot to do with it."
Jackson’s intention to return as long as he’s healthy will have a profound impact on the potential 2010 free agent everyone has forgotten about: Kobe Bryant. The four-time champion decided not to terminate his contract after last season, but the extension he was subsequently expected to sign with Lakers has not come to fruition.

Bryant has steadfastly refused to discuss his contract situation this season, and his agent, Rob Pelinka, did not respond to a request for comment. But until Jackson’s situation was clarified Friday, executives around the NBA had come to believe that it would be unwise to assume Bryant was a shoo-in to re-sign with the Lakers this summer rather than exercise his player option for $24.8 million and join the elite free-agent class that also included LeBron James and Dwyane Wade

“He’s definitely in the mix,” one GM told me recently. “What if they don’t win it this year and what if he’s [ticked] off at Dr. Buss for not re-signing Phil Jackson or he’s sick of playing with whoever and he says, ‘You know what? I’m gonna go put on a New York Knick jersey.’ All of sudden he and Mike D’Antoni hook up in New York and they can talk some Italian.

“Don’t rule him out if LeBron says no to New York,” the GM said.

Buss, whose daughter, Jeanie, is Jackson’s girlfriend, said in a recent interview that Jackson’s desire to consider his health after the season was the only impediment to finalizing his return. Jeanie Buss, the Lakers’ executive vice president of business operations, also denied recent reports that family strife could prevent Jackson from returning to coach in 2010-11.
"I would serve at the behest of the Buss family," Jackson said.

Jackson returning next season would remove a significant tipping point in Bryant’s decision to leave $25 million on the table July 1 and accept significantly less as an unrestricted free agent. Speculation that Bryant would stay in Staples Center and sign with the Clippers are farfetched, according to sources who believe New York is the only place Bryant would go if he left the Lakers.

“There’s a greater chance he crosses the country and goes to New York than he crosses the hallway and goes to the Clippers,” one executive said. “He can use the Clippers all he wants, but he’s not going to the Clippers -- unless he gets to pick his own coach and GM or something like that. I had no inkling that he would leave the Lakers last summer. Now, New York could be a legitimate option. I wouldn’t rule it out.”

Clips Nation Neil Oshey Interview on NBA Today Podcast

I just listened to a 20 minute interview with Neil Oshey and Ryan Rusillo, host of the NBA today Podcast.   I strongly recommend people listen to this podcast, I think most people on this site don't know much about Neil's background, I definitely didn't know much about him.

He offers up some insight into the future, discusses his background and rise to GM,  and offers his opinion on the DTS and the state of the franchise and of course the 2010 Free Agency.

I'm starting to believe this guy knows his stuff and he has some long standing relationships with several players throughout the league.  Hopefully he can get this ship turned around.

Clips Nation Grizzlies plan to match offers to Gay

I've read before that several analysts believe the Griz would not be able to match any offers for Gay.  Several mentioned that the Ronnie Brewer trade was a precursor to the end of Gay in Memphis.

In this article Griz Owner Hiesely mentions that they will match any offers.

I think the guy will be overpaid no matter where he ends up, but I would sign up for that move considering our huge hole at the 3 and his young age.  He kind of reminds me of EJ, the guy just doesn't have the killer instinct to take over a game, he is a nice number 2 or 3 option, but he isn't the kind of guy that wll take the big shot with the game on the line.   Regardless, our starting lineup would look very nice if he were to sign.  I can't wat until this free agent bonanza is over, I'm sick of all the rumors.

I think the offseason will boil down to Gay or Johnson for the Clipps.

http://www.commercialappeal.com/news/2010/mar/16/memphis-grizzlies-outgun-undermanned-chicago-bulls/

Griz owner Michael Heisley told a group of season ticket holders that the team intends to match any offer Gay might receive as a restricted free agent this summer. Heisley spoke before the game at the team’s annual “State of the Franchise” Chalk Talk where season ticket holders could ask questions.

Clips Nation Durant is a fan of Clipper Darrell

I stubmbled on this artice today while checking my Twitter.  For all the negative press that people like DTS, MDSR, and Baron get it's nice to occassiaonally read some postiive news regarding the team/it's followers.

Maybe Clipper Darrell can lure Durant to the Clipps in a few years.  It's nice to dream, that sure would be nice.

Me and Clipper Darrell

kdlabel

What’s good everyone? Man, I’ll tell you what, it sure is nice to be back home. We’re in the middle of a three-game home stand right now before heading back on the road for three more games. Not sure if you saw us on our last road trip to Denver, L.A. and Sacramento, but we finished up pretty strong.

At our game in L.A. I got a chance to say what’s up to my man Clipper Darell, the guy who wears a half red, half blue suit and loves to heckle opponents. He’s obviously a staple at Clippers games.

I’ve known Clipper Darrell for a few years now. He came out to Vegas a couple of times to cheer for the Clippers during Summer League and I met him out there and we became friends. So every time I see him I make sure I talk to him for a little bit. I know when he’s yelling it’s all fun. It’s nothing malicious. He just calls everybody “U-G-L-Y, ugly.” But he’s cool every time I see him. He’s a real good dude. He screams the loudest when I’m at the free throw line, so it’s hard not to hear him.

I think the Staples Center is the only arena where someone has heckled me so much. That’s not to say I don’t get yelled at in other opposing arenas. People talk about my mom, my grandma, everything. I’ve been called skinny, been told I need to eat, but it’s all good. It’s nothing I get too upset over.

Well, we’ve got two more home games starting Friday against New Jersey. The boo birds will have to wait until we get to Charlotte next week. Any other famous/crazy fans I should no about in other arenas? Let me know in the comments section.

Clips Nation Monta Ellis next to be traded

Seems like GSW is throwing in the towel, Monta is next to be traded.   It's nice having to worry about one less team deterring us from a run at the Playoffs, not that the Warriors were a contendor this year, but they seem to be in full rebuilding mode now.  I can't see this team getting in our way for at least a few years.

You gotta like that the final straw in this drama came about after the Clipps destroyed the Warriors earlier this year. (Read below)

http://blogs.mercurynews.com/kawakami/2009/11/17/elliswarriors-situation-set-to-hit-full-boil-at-thursday-meeting-trade-inevitable/

Multiple NBA sources have confirmed that Monta Ellis’ status with the Warriors could be determined Thursday, when his agent is scheduled to meet with team management in Oakland.

Several sources indicate that Ellis’ agent, Jeff Fried, already has discussed the possibility of the Warrriors giving Fried and Ellis permission to talk to other teams to quicken the pace of trade talks.

The Thursday meeting could formalize those general discussions. One source said that Fried tacitly has been given the go-ahead to try to come up with a trade, but that team president Robert Rowell may not yet have officially signed off on it.

(Al Harrington was given similar permission last year. It’s believed Stephen Jackson received tacit approval earlier this year.)

Rowell and GM Larry Riley apparently will represent Warriors management in this meeting.

Another source

(UPDATED:) Multiple sources say that, apparently at Don Nelson’s urging, the Warriors have been calling teams and offering to trade Ellis in recent days.

It is likely that their efforts will only intensify, barring some 11th-hour peace treaty. Ellis has four years and $44M owed to him after this season, but several sources say that he will be less difficult to trade than Stephen Jackson was.

And it seems inevitable that Ellis will be traded, presuming that Nelson remains in power, and every source I’ve talked to believes that Nelson will remain in power.

Ellis’ grievances with the Warriors date to their handling of punishment for his scooter accident and to concerns about Nelson’s commitment to him as a player and to Rowell’s decisions as the team’s No. 1 executive.

(Including personal promises made by Rowell to Ellis and Stephen Jackson at the end of last season that the Warriors would upgrade the roster significantly in order to make sure this year is not wasted.)

But the latest developments, reactions, and red-hot trade talk, stem from 2 recent events, one public, one not:

* Two sources say that Nelson embarrassed Ellis when Ellis tried to step into a leadership role in the aftermath of the 28-point home loss to the Clippers on Nov. 6.

The sources describe the scene in the post-game locker room: Ellis, as a co-captain, began loudly addressing to his teammates, telling them that this performance could not be tolerated.

But then Nelson came into the room and told Ellis to be quiet.

Speaking to reporters a few minutes later, Ellis was near-tears. A snippet…

-Q: Your coach said he was embarrassed by this game. Are you embarrassed?

-ELLIS: We all should be embarrassed. This is a terrible game, terrible performance. We looked like we didn’t know what we were doing out there. We looked like a high school team. We didn’t do nothing.

* The Clippers-game episode now sheds greater light on Ellis’ cryptic comments during his public verbal altercation with Nelson after a practice in New York last week.

First, in front of reporters, Ellis accused Nelson of blaming him for everything. When Nelson denied it and then walked away, waving his hands, Ellis said:

“See, that’s why I won’t do it. I just won’t do it.”

What did that mean? My read: Ellis was saying that whenever he tries to lead the team, it’s rendered meaningless because the coach and management disrupt everything.

Ellis has his own weaknesses and is far from a perfect player, but he is not wrong on this point.

When he sees how little Nelson cares about building a real team and sees the bumbling of Rowell & Co., Ellis is seeing the truth about the Warriors.

He’s living it. He’s not the ideal Nelson guard, and that has played out over a few years now. But Ellis is one of the more talented guards of his size in the NBA. However…

Like so many other players before him, he is realizing the hopelessness of life with Nelson, Rowell, Riley and Chris Cohan.

He wants out. Just like Stephen Jackson. Like Al Harrington. And, probably, like Anthony Randolph in a few months and Andris Biedrins and… well, you just name the good player. He wants out or soon will want out.

They all have an expiration date. It’s the Warriors. The only ones who stay are the fools, the corrupt and those with no other choice.
