The five-star recruit has been open about more than the phone calls going a little overboard. He's openly saying he likely won't narrow his list any further until the season is in full swing, to make sure his schools of choice won't be facing any probation or NCAA issues next season.

Channing Ward hears from Dan Mullen as the recruiting period opens back up

Even bigger things expected from Bumphis

Coach Dan Mullen said during Wednesday’s SEC coaches call that he finally saw more development in Bumphis’ game during this offseason. As a junior, Bumphis, who drew comparisons to Florida’s Percy Harvin early in his career, is starting to realize the things he needs to change in his game in order to become the complete player Mullen expects him to be in the Bulldogs’ offense.

"You bought into that belief and that philosophy," Mullen said, closing his question-and-answer session less than 48 hours before MSU’s season opener against Memphis. "And you didn’t have to buy in. There’s a lot of different ways you can be successful but we felt we had a plan that worked and we asked you all to buy in, and you all bought in 100 percent. You had no idea if you bought in if we would go to the Gator Bowl or not. You could have bought in and we could have been 5-7 last year. But you did it and you all bought in. You believed in what we were doing and now we’re reaping the rewards for that."

Dan Mullen spoke to the Starkville QB Club tonight and Brandon Marcello has some quotes. Go check them out.

I have zero respect for that school up north. In fact, I’ll probably never call them by their actual name. The only thing red and blue in my life is the American flag. I successfully paved my son’s college football career by naming him Canon. You’re welcome world.

In a crowded Union Station in Washington, D.C., not too long ago, Mississippi State professor Whit Waide was approached by a stranger. Waide had an appointment to make. He was in a hurry. The stranger offered just one sentence: "I can tell you are in a hurry," Waide recalls the stranger saying, "but I had to let you know that I'm grindin' for my state."

At Mississippi State, the "People's Professor" keeps, well, grindin' On a side note, I really miss Veazey's coverage of Mississippi State sports. He always did his homework and brought his A game.

I mean, sure, we may have our bad videos, but at least we all know how to cheer at our games. Also: 1. It was nice that they were able to shoot this video in the stadium during their highest attendance of the season. 2. The hair is just so...perfectly gelled. At first you aren't sure if brent is going to instruct you in cheering on the team, or sing a soft, sultry ballad to you in the style of Michael Buble 3. I guess we don't need Texas A & M in the SEC since TSUN already has the 12th man idea covered. 4. How many people will fall down drunk when they "lock the vaught". Also, who else thought they meant they were going to lock everyone in the game so they wouldn't wonder back out to the grove after the first media timeout? Maybe that is why they want everyone in their seats so early... 5. In the stands 40 minutes early? How do they expect everyone to get their seersucker suit pressed and ready in time? 6. How many gallons of Jim Bean will be spilled when everyone looks on their cup to sing the fight song? (This is a trick question since there will be no one in the stands to sing the fight song since the Rebels don't usually score until the opponent has their third string in). 7. At what point during the fight song do all the greeks sing The South Will Rise Again? Anything else you want us to pass along? Leave them in the comments.
