Around the NFL: Could Jeff Garcia See Playing Time in Oakland?

+

Jim Trotter of SI.com looks at the Oakland Raiders and JaMarcus Russell. He wonders if Russell will ever have the leadership qualities he needs to be a true #1 quarterback or if the team may turn to former Buccaneer Jeff Garcia this year.

McCown Will Fight for Starting Job

5

First of all, I want to apologize for the lack of content lately. In case you weren't aware, Buc 'Em isn't any of our full-time jobs (although we sure do wish it were) and sometimes other things get in the way. That and our fearless leader (JScott) had quite the surprise last week (not to worry, it was a very good surprise). Couple that with the fact that it's the offseason - a time of year we all begrudgingly wade through. But not to worry, we'll be back and get this train (or would pirate ship be more appropriate?) rolling again. Anywho... Luke McCown is up for a fight...and I like it! It's nice to see a little fire in your players. Let's hope is translates to the field. Click here to read the ESPN.com article.

Could the first QB be on his way out?

4

It shouldn't come as much of a surprise to anyone, as many thought he could be the first one to go, but Brian Griese is not expected to attend Organized Team Activities which begin on Tuesday. The Bucs may still keep the veteran on the roster for a few months in case there is an injury among the others.

Could Josh Freeman Wear #5?

6

More jersey fun... We won't know for a while what numbers our rookies will be wearing, but could the Bucs Team Fan Shop be giving us a sneak peak? It's assumed Josh Freeman will wear #1 based on what we saw at Kansas State, but various sites have started to plug in numbers for rookies on different teams based on what they may already know. I found more than one site hint Freeman could be wearing #5. Check it out yourself here.

Josh Freeman Might Want to Learn What to Keep to Himself

9

During a chat session with NFL.com, Josh Freeman had the following to say. Maybe the rookie needs to learn what he should just keep to himself. "I felt that all along," he wrote. "Even when they picked up Byron Leftwich. It was something they told me -- they told me it was a smoke screen, everybody would think they didn’t want a QB. They said they were ready to trade up. I think it worked out great. I was sitting there with my family and enjoying it, and I got to go to the team that I wanted to go to."

Around the NFL: Lions Trying to Work Deal with Stafford

1

Don't bank on the Detroit Lions selecting Georgia quarterback Matthew Stafford with the #1 pick just yet, but they are talking numbers. The Lions are leaning toward Stafford, Wake Forest linebacker Aaron Curry, or Baylor offensive tackle Jason Smith and would like to have a deal in place before the NFL Draft begins. After having already met with Curry, Detroit has turned its attention to Stafford.

We discuss the 2010 Free Agent QB class and whether the Bucs should hold off on adding a fourth QB now in preparation for next off-season. We also discuss the true venue in which we might secure a Franchise QB in next off-seasons NFL Draft.

NFL Draft Rumors: Who the Tampa Bay Buccaneers Have Interest In

Jermaine Phillips to Give Linebacker a Try

16
Raheem Morris has asked safety Jermaine Phillips to give linebacker a shot. And Phillips has agreed. Phillips will be taking a crack at weak-side linebacker, where the Bucs lack depth at the moment. So, I have to ask the following question: if Cato June didn't fit the new direction of the defense at weak-side linebacker, how will a safety? Of course, this is just an experiment and 99 times out of 100 no real change ends up being made.

Bucs Move Training Camp to Team Facility

The days of Disney's Wide World of Sports are over. The Bucs are staying home for training camp. Not exactly the most newsworthy item in the world, but at least it lets locals take in a practice or two without having to travel.
