Bears, in fact, DO get a DT Prospect on 3rd Day of 2012 NFL Draft
Defensive Tackle Ronnie Cameron is a huge sleeper pickup for the Bears and could end up being major steal. Although we signed him yesterday as an undrafted free agent as soon as the draft ended, I think a lot of fans would have been fine if Emery had selected him as early as the 4th round (although he was projected as 5th to 7th.) Look Below the Jump to understand why:

The Real Bears Cap Story and What Is Actually Feasible...
From the research I could glean-- esp from one poster "DaBears5454" who posts on the CB.com , I've been able to piece together what the real cap situation looks like for the Bears this year and what we might be able to pull off. Below the jump, I've laid it out.
. I just went back and reviewed the tape and I must say: Webb had a fantastic game. He held his blocks in the passing game really well, required almost no support or double teams, got some good push on running plays, showed some nice adjustments to a couple stunts. All in all, a really Solid performance by the kid. It was great to see.
Soldier Field Turf Unplayable--Family Night Cancelled (Open Thread)
Image courtesy desmond.yfrog.com (Zach Zaidman Twitter)
The Score is reporting that the Bears are being forced to completely cancel the family night practice at Soldier Field tonight because the condition of the field is so bad.
Kev's Note: This is an embarrassment. There is no excuse for Soldier Field to not be in tiptop shape. It is not a concert arena, it is a sporting field, and should be managed as such. Bears players are hitting the buses to get back to Olivet Nazarene University to have practice tonight.
Kev's Note 2: Per Biggs, practice is closed to media and public, so don't bother heading out to ONU.
DT Upgrade: Okoye for Harrison
Let's pull the trigger on this now. Dump Harrison who showed up fat and out of shape AGAIN...and bring in a 24 year old former number one pick with great upside potential.
The Little Things
Sometimes, in a game or even in a season it's the little things, pieced together, that lead to W's.
Here's 15 little things from the top of my head when thinking of the game that I thought were worth highlighting:

Kraig Urbik Released
IN what looks like a numbers crunch, the Steelers released a promising young player picked in the 3rd round last year--G/C Kraig Urbik out of Wisconsin
The Way-Too Early, Chicago Bears 53 Man Roster Thread
What the hell....I'm bored.
Jamar Williams-- You won't be sorry
Bears fan here. I read through a bunch of the posts related to the recent trade and I think there is a need to let you all know that there are many Bears fans who believe you may have gotten the better end of this deal.

Robert Johnson-- The Answer to Chicago's Free Safety Blues
No, not the legendary Blues guitarist. But the unheralded Free Safety from Utah who is paying Lovie and Co a visit today.
Free Safety Ramblings....
We all agree: A high caliber FS is the next top priority. I've been looking at what we could do and decided to share my thoughts in the ramblings below.
My Dream Off Season
The combine is done and free agency has begun. It's NOW time to start getting optimistic. After the jump I've spelled out my dream off-season for the Bears. What's yours?
Of course, it has to be reasonable and doable though-- eg, Brandon Marshall is not reasonable as we have no picks to give, etc.
Name the Players- Bears Fans
So Mike Martz comes in as the new offensive coordinator working under a HC who was once respected but is coming out of two terrible seasons.
Martz has a vision for an attacking offense and he has the following weapons and tools to work with (let's see if you can name them all Bears fans):

Why The Defense Has Collapsed
Firstly, we all knew coming into this season that the defense was a huge question mark.
It took 5 games of mediocre play, a couple more injuries and now we can see it clearly-- they are as bad as many feared they might be.
Why?
1. System
2. Strength/Size vs. Speed
3. Personnel
4. Injury

New Face at OTA's this week...
Watch this video first:
http://www.chicagobears.com/multimed...ay_clip=Y&rn=6
JA talks about getting three future starters out of this draft. Chris Harris became a starter after being selected as a hard hitting safety in the 6th round and I believe this kid could possibly follow in those footsteps someday.
It's been a while since we've looked back at the draft but somehow, amid all the discussions of our earlier picks and the talk of our receiving crew and Jay Cutler and the other additions from Michael Gaines to Pisa Tinoisamoa and everything in between, I feel like this kid didn't get his due.
Now, with OTAs wrapping up, Afalava finally gets his chance to show us what he's got. He has missed out on lots of practice time because of the NFL's "Stay In School Program." Although I admire the program, you have to wonder if high-school prospects will, in the future, make decisions on what college to attend based on when commencement ceremonies take place. It just seems that mid/late round picks with late graduation ceremonies will be at a real disadvantage when they miss so many of the OTA's and a chance to prove themselves for a good portion of the off-season.
So how about Al Afalava? Besides being the only guy I've ever seen whose first and last name have an "a" after every other letter and besides his glorious victory in the Oregon State rock, paper, scissors championship, everything else I've read about him is positive. He didn't get all the top accolades in his conference for playing safety but that is understandable when you consider that he had Talyor Mays and Patrick Chung stealing his thunder.
Also, his senior year production was less than expected but as Bears Scout Mary Barrett pointed out here, he played through injury almost all year. His 2007 production was excellent on a great OSU defense.
He did have a strike against him for an off the field incident where he crashed his car into an empty bus shelter, walked home and waited for the police to come get him. All the discussions following his arrest for DUI and 1 game suspension lead me to believe this was an isolated incident and he was contrite and earnest in the way he addressed the mistake.
As far as his play goes, there's not a ton of footage on the kid but the stuff in print makes him sound like quite a hard worker and his coaches loved him.

His pro-day results were off the charts (look at his performance and physique in the video below-- prototype Safety size and a bad ass physique.)
Had he been invited to the combine and performed like he did at his pro day, he would have had the overall top measurements for any safety prospect. His measureables vs the top performances turned in at the combine:
1. 40: 4.47 = 3rd
2. Vert: 40" = 3rd
3. Broad jump: 10'7" = 5th
4. Bench = 25 reps (watch the vid, he did 29 but lost 4 because he didn't lock elbows I presume) = 3rd
5. 20 Yard Shutte: 4.06 = 2nd
6. 3 Cone Drill: 6.63 = 4th
7. 60 Yard: 11.05 = 2nd
Believe me, there was nobody who was consistently in the top 5 in that many different categories-- this guy is athletic!
And, we know he can hit-- really hit. Read some of the articles in the links below.
I'm not sure if he can make the adjustment to the pro free safety position right away but if he can and the D line delivers the pressure we want, I'm thinking that he and Payne could team up to deliver a 1-2 punch the likes of which we haven't seen since the Plank/Fencik era. Hell, Urlacher won't need to drop back into coverage any more because no receiver will want to go over the middle against the Bears!
I can't wait to see him in camp and in the pre-season.

Poll: Briggs and Pick For Boldin?
What would you think if we signed Tinoisamoa to play WILL and let Freeman and/or Williams be his understudy.
Then we turned around and traded Briggs and a pick next year (hopefully a third rounder or lower) to the Cardinals for Boldin?
I'm not sure if the Cards need a WLB of Briggs stature given the nature of their defense. And, to be frank, I have not been a proponent at all of getting Boldin at all costs.
But I wanted to throw this out to see how Bears nation felt about the prospect of losing one of our marquee defensive players. There have been a lot of fans who say that although Briggs is good, a lot of his success is a product of the Tampa 2 system and that you could fairly easily find other guys to fill that role.
What do you all think?
