One run all the Twins need to beat Padres
The Padres’ offensive shortcomings are laying waste to a lot of good pitching.
Valencia’s home run was the first run allowed by Stauffer in 16 innings. His ERA over his last three starts is 0.41.
Punk Rock Baseball
This is a website my brother showed to me this morning. Like me, he is into punk rock and baseball. Chin Music seems like it was a pretty cool magazine, and it covers both topics.. Their are lots of articles on both music and baseball. I only read the Trevor Hoffman interview, which is dated, but still cool. Other articles of interest include "Steve Finley and The Fine Art of Crotch Grabbing", "Ex-Jawbox-er and the DC Punk Softball Scene", and "I Drummed with Lemmy! The Mike Piazza Interview". Again, the interviews and info are dated, but still a good read. TTG may be the only one who clicks this link, but here it is anyways, ChinMusic.net

Arizona in the Springtime
Dudes and dudesses, I bring to you my photographic memories pixelized for your viewing enjoyment. I was in Phoenix for a few days and had the chance to visit 3 different stadiums. Phoenix Municipal (Home of the A's), Camelback Ranch (Home of the White Sox and Dodgers), and good ol' Peoria (Home of the Padres and the Hated). After experiencing Spring Training games for the first time, I can say that I prefer weekday games over weekend games. I also prefer games that aren't packed to capacity with Giants fans who are extra fcuking annoying, now more than ever. I also enjoy games where the Padres beat the Dodgers, even if it's only spring training. Muchos photos after the jump.
Without this signage, we may never have made it.

San Diego Padres - 2011 Spring Training Schedule
Spring Training games starting next Monday! Who's going? I'll be in AZ in 2 weeks and I'm going to as many games as my girlfriend can handle. Is it weird that I want to get Ichiro's autograph while I'm there?
Harang on pitching for Padres -VIDEO
Pretty excited to see what the Harangutan can do at Petco this year.
Stephen Strasburg attempts to quit smokeless tobacco
I know a lot of you hard partyin' GLB'ers probably smoke and chew tobacco, but there is a lesson to be learned here and we'd all do well to follow such an example.
Sandy Alderson hired as Mets general manager
A match made in heaven. I really want to hear a radio interview with New York media and Sandy.
This is how it feels, Part 2
This song sums it up for me... You Were Right, by Built to Spill
Listen to this tune while you read along with the lyrics.
Then, we can all have a good cry together and hug and maybe give each other back rubs or foot massages...
You were wrong when you said
Everything's gonna be alright
Yeah, you were wrong when you said
Everything's gonna be alright
You were right when you said
All that glitters isn't gold
You were right when you said
All we are is dust in the wind
You were right when you said
We're all just bricks in the wall
And when you said manic depression's a frustrating mess
You were wrong when you said
Everything's gonna be alright
Yeah, you were wrong when you said
Everything's gonna be alright
You were wrong when you said
Everything's gonna be alright
You were right when you said
You can't always get what you want
You were right when you said
It's a hard rain's gonna fall
You were right when you said
We're still running against the wind
Life goes on after the thrill of living is gone
You were right when you said
This is the end
Do you ever think about it?
Do you ever think about it?
Do you ever think about it?
Do you ever think about it?

"I didn’t see it until the ball was behind me," Gwynn said. "I was trying not to look at the radar reading because I’d be intimidated. I saw how hard he was throwing and just tried to be slow and work my hands."
Adios Beaver Baseball
Portland, Oregon has always had a baseball team, it seems. Since the inception of the Beavers in 1903 until yesterday, there was a rich history of the game being played here. It saddens me to think that the only thing left is basketball and now, soccer. No more baseball. No more peanuts and crackerjacks. No more Beavers...
The 1990's were a dark, dark period in Portland baseball history. The team was called the Portland Rockies then and the uniforms they wore were purple and black and you guessed it, they were a Cololrado affiliate. I didn't live here in the 90's, thank WG. The Rockies eventually left Portland and people were forced to watch basketball again. Until...

Hoffman resisted urge to hang it up
In the present, Hoffman will continue waiting for his chances. At 42 and in his 18th Major League season, he is the third-oldest pitcher to appear in a game this season, behind 47-year-old Jamie Moyer of the Phillies and 43-year-old knuckleballer Tim Wakefield of the Red Sox.
Buster Posey
So maybe it's late and I should be asleep... but I can't go to bed because it's Saturday night and I'm obliged to celebrate. I was watching some lowlights from today's game earlier and I couldn't help but notice that Buster Posey is a Giant dork, a huge nerd, and a massive dingleberry. I mean really, he looks like he eats his boogers, his shoes probably smell bad and he prolly wears tighty-whities encrusted with dried fecal matter. The kind of guy you act like you are cool with, but you're trying to avoid like the plague. You know what I mean? I wouldn't be surprised if he tried to narc out lil' Timmy for smokin' da herb. I wouldn't be surprised if Sabean was 'his boy'. i wouldn't be surprised if his teammates pissed on him in the showers and he kind of enjoys it... 'cause it feels warm'. Good luck. He was obviously dropped on his head as a small baby and I don't even want to get into how deformed he looks. As far as baseball goes, he is one of the luckiest that has ever played the game. If it wasn't for other teams constantly committing errors and not being in the right place to make a defensive stop when he somehow makes contact with the ball, he would never have made it past the junior high level. Dumb luck that he made it to the pros. Really, you gotta kinda feel bad for him. What a turd.

Just a song I wrote
All this talk about liking or disliking certain players has got me to thinking... We are 19 games over .500 with this team. I can see hatin' on McAnulty or Huber or someone who played no part in a successful campaign, but these guys are winning. It seems to me Chris Denorfia has exceeded expectations and in his honor, I wrote a song...
Day after day,
Alone on a hill,
Chris Denorfia with the foolish grin is keeping perfectly still
But nobody wants to know him,
They can see that he's just a fool,
And he never gives an answer,
But Chris Denorfia on the hill,
Sees the sun going down,
And the eyes in his head,
See the world spinning 'round.
Well on the way,
Head in a cloud,
The man of a thousand voices talking perfectly loud
But nobody ever hears Chris Denorfia,
or the sound he appears to make,
and he never seems to notice,
But the fool on the hill,
Sees the sun going down,
And the eyes in his head,
See the world spinning 'round.
And nobody seems to like Chris Denorfia,
they can tell what he wants to do,
and he never shows his feelings,
But the fool on the hill,
Sees the sun going down,
And the eyes in his head,
See the world spinning 'round.
Ooh, ooh,
Round and round and round.
And Chris Denorfia never listens to them,
He knows that they're the fools
They don't like him,
The fool on the hill
Sees the sun going down,
And the eyes in his head,
See the world spinning 'round.
Ooh,
Round and round and round

Emerald fans set 'Moonwalk' record
I am so ticked that Jordan didn't give me the heads up on this one. What will I tell my grandchildren? That the world record for most people doing the moonwalk at the same time happened within an hour's drive from where I live and I didn't participate. For shame.
Same youth team produced Strasburg, Leake
"They recall Strasburg as a pitcher a head taller than everyone else struggling to hold back tears while delivering blistering heat, and Leake as the catcher precociously calling his own game..."
The Pacific Coast League today named Portland Beavers first baseman-outfielder Mike Baxter its Player of the Week for the span inclusive of June 7-13.
Baxter, 25, batted .455 (10-for-22) with two doubles, one triple, three home runs, 10 RBIs, seven runs scored and five walks in six games.
Authentic PCL Padres jerseys, jackets, and caps from Ebbets Field Flannels. I visited their store in Seattle and the stuff is high quality and historically accurate.
For all of you Beaver Believers,
Black recalls hockey-playing father
I didn't know that Harry was a Canadian.
50 down, 112 to go...
So, we all made our predictions, based on what we thought this team could achieve, at the beginning of the season. Most of us thought that the Padres would win between 81-85 games. We're currently on pace to win 97. Though I agree with the idea that the pitching, which has been stellar to this point, can't carry the team forever, I do have renewed hope for what could be. I still think that we win at least 86 games this year, but now I find myself day dreaming about 90 wins. To achieve this we would have to go 60-62 to finish the season. Not an unfathomable feat.
Last night, I heard some jack@ss on the local sports radio station say that the "Padres will start to stink soon". He didn't back up his opinion w/ any facts and I became angered while driving down a curvy, wet mountainous road. Fortunately I am able to drive with my elbows and smoke the peace pipe at the same time, which calmed my nerves (Shout out to herbie420!). We know what Kras thinks, but me thinks I want to hear what you thinks... Are you ready to renege on what you felt the Padres would do before the season began? Or are you standing firm on the slippery slope that is the future?
Paint me green and call me a hippie, but I'm going to grow a giant pumpkin this year and enter the Giant Pumpkin Regatta. I've already scored the seeds and prepared the ground. Maybe I'll post pics of the pumpkin's progress throughout the summer.
In 2009 "Hell's Bells" was the best time you could have at a Brewers game. In 2010 it sends people heading for the exits with their heads down. It makes an optimistic fan like myself break a cheese fries helmet and try to slit his wrist.
I never want to hear Hell’s Bells again

Beavers announce opening pitching rotation
Le sigh, I'm going to see Le Blanc pitch tonight, at Le Beavers home opener. Le rain delay would be the only thing that could spoil le fun and it's raining in Portland today, which is kinda le weird for this time of le year.
Emeralds Release Much Anticipated Promotional Schedule
Other theme nights only to be seen in Eugene this summer include: Tri'butte' Night, featuring Sluggo's hip-hop music video debut "I Like Big Buttes"; a Sunday afternoon BYO Pool Party where fans will be encouraged to bring their swim wear and own inflatable pools; and My-Koo Jackson Night where Ems Director of Ticket Operations Koo Yul Kim will lead the crowd in an attempt to set the Guinness World Record for most people doing the moon walk at once.
Just in case you plan on vacationing in Portland this year...
