WARNING: I typically trend towards cynical and sarcastic, but that's only because I've had to put up with gormless twits during my early days in I.T. (I still do, to a degree, after fourteen years.) You try being on the tech support front lines - a.k.a. hell desk and desktop support - for nearly ten years and see how you turn out.

Now that the World Cup is over, I keep hearing in various circles something like this: "Now Americans can go back to not caring about soccer for four years." Or, this: "Only fifty-some days...

Two things I kept noticing. One, the lack of the "no-huddle" which Peyton is known for. Two, a very distinct home-field advantage for the Broncos. Otherwise, a complete shutout by the Hawks. 21-0. Wagner with a key interception late in the 4th quarter to ice it.

The Machine - TRG's Playoff Picks, Version 2

+

I posted over on AP a while back my initial picks for who'll advance to this year's NFL playoffs. Using ESPN's Playoff Machine and using Power Rankings as my criteria, I had initially predicted that Kansas City would go 5-2 in the final seven weeks with losses at Denver and home against Indianapolis. That would have guaranteed them the 1-seed in the AFC, pending a Denver loss to New England in Week 12 (and, obviously, a KC win at home over San Diego that same week, and a win against Denver at Arrowhead the following week.) Seattle, naturally, would sweep the rest of their schedule and wind up with a 15-1 record, taking the 1-seed in the NFC playoffs. Boy, was I ever wrong about the AFC side of the house. I'll admit it, and the crow needs some more Tabasco sauce on it. Still pulling for Seattle to clinch that top seed in the NFC Playoffs. If asked, I'll post up my predictions for each potential playoff game in a fanpost. GO HAWKS!!!

ESPN 2013 NFL Playoff Machine - TRG's Picks

4

ESPN brings back its NFL Playoff Machine for the final weeks of the 2013 season. I went by Power Rankings to determine my picks for the playoffs; as stated in a prior comment of mine, I predicted that the Chiefs will go 5-2 in the final seven weeks of the season with losses at Denver and home against Indy. (I just can't see them losing to Denver at home in Week 13.) That should guarantee them the number one seed in the AFC Playoffs, pending a Denver loss at New England on Sunday night.
