The day Rick Pitino signed with the Cs and unceremoniously pushed aside Red was one of the darker days in the Franchise. Also, remember that Larry was so disgusted with how Gaston handled the coaching search that he walked away from the Cs, a decision that had to be tough even for someone as hard nosed as LB. I don't really care about Pitino's personal life but this latest incident reveals, again, how skeweds the guru-college coach syndrome really is. Not that Pitino ever did the on-court and off-court antics of Knight, but he reveals what a fake he truly is. Anyone who could unironically title a book Success is a Choice has so lost perspective on reality because of ego it's laughable.

On Celticsblog.com, we have Marc Spears for Yahoo reporting that Boston proposed the deal. In the Globe today, they've reversed it saying that Yahoo reported Detroit initiated the proposal. If that's the case, Danny turned down Maxiell and a number one pick for Baby, Pruitt, and Giddens? I can't believe that. Can anyone straighten this out? I would have jumped at that offer. I think Maxiell can be dynamic player and it wouldn't hurt having number one pick.

Jerry Buss takes offer to Odom off the table.

This is what I was hoping for. Jerry Buss takes things very personally and is upset that Odom has been talking to other teams and not the Lakers. While most UFA's probably do this to gauge their value, Buss often takes exception to players who look beyond the Lakers and he sort of goes Michael Corleone to his brother Fredo on them. Ariza is another example. I sure would have liked to have had a chance to make Odom an offer rather than Wallace but if this means Odom is not a Laker next year then they are not a better team. Here's the LA Times story.

Should Toronto Make an offer to Lamar Odom?

If I understand what has happened in the most recent Toronto deals, they are now 12 million under the salary cap(?). If that is the case, I am hoping they could make an offer to Lamar Odom. Right now, I believe the Lakers are offering him 7 mill. per year which is a significant pay cut. If Toronto could up the offer and get Odom, they would certainly have a very tough front line. Also, it would mess up the Lakers which of course is my ulterior motive in this "what if" fantasy. I just hope Toronto doesn't make a move for BBD.

Lakers vs. Celtics in the past two years through the lens of the front office

I'm so nauseated over the fact that we are about to see the Lakers win another banner but I have to bring this up. Over the last two years which team has done better in the front office? I'm thinking that the Lakers getting Gasol and Ariza for chump change vs. Garnett for a great player(s) and mutliple picks might have been a better deal. Let's assume it's a forgone conclusion the Lakers win (barf), our big three window is already closing with so many miles on those sneakers whereas Ariza, Gasol, Kobe, and Bynum and still relativley young. It looks like Ray Allen contract may end up being the most valuable asset we have, sadly. We need to get players below 28 who can win and gel with Garnett, Perk and Pierce. It still sickens me how the Lakers got Gasol and Ariza for virtually nothing. I'll stop here.

Did we miss Posey?

Well, yes. People will say that it wasn't worth it to lock up money for four years on Posey. My position is that we had a three year window to win banners given the age of the big three. We now have one more year left on that window. Since Tony Allen was essentially worthless during the playoffs, we had a huge hole on the bench when it came to a defensive presence not to mention someone who could hit a three. Do you think Hedo would have had the game he had yesterday if Posey was on him? Yes, injuries were the major factor for our untimely demise but Posey was a huge gap in the bench that was never addressed all year and it came back to bite us in the end.

Rondo and Bobby Orr

Last night in the chat room I predicted Rondo was going to get hurt and about five minutes later it happened. Rondo reminds me of a young Bobby Orr. Orr would rsuh up the ice with the puck and no one could stop him. Rondo is a lot like that. However, he exposes his body way to much and falls hard to court far too many times. He needs to look at the sadly shortened career of Bobby Orr. By the end of his career, Orr could barely walk because of injured knees. I love Rondo's energy but he really needs to learn a little more about self preservation.

KG on the bench or not?!?

If his teammates want KG on the bench and KG doesn’t want to be on the bench is that the end of Ubuntu? He keeps on saying he doesn't want to be a distraction but in the end it's now become a distraction if he is or is not on the bench. I respect intensity but he's forgetting he's part of a team injured or not. Scal's out there in street clothes.

Anybody else pertruberd that Dirk N. has drilled two Celtics now with his elbow swing move? He gave Scals a concussion in the Boston game and last night in Dallas wiped out Pierce who cleary had his bell rung pretty badly. That should be reviewed by the league. He's getting away with a very dangerous move and he could seriously injure somebody. I know some will say that it's part of the game but there comes a point when the league should review somehting that is becoming a pattern that involves injuries to players.

Remember a couple of summers ago when Kobe was caught on tape in a parking lot talking to some fans about Adrew Bynum and what a minor player he was. Kobe was completely disrespecting him saying he should be traded with others for an upgrade to the team. Recently, the 21 year old has been the best center in the league until Kobe took care of business in Memphis on Saturday. I don't want to be too Freudian about this but is this a self-fulfilling prophecy or what. I was secretly rooting for Bynum to prove Kobe wrong. Of course, never an apology from the Kobester.
