Over the weekend in Las Vegas, Miller was spotted in the hotel lobby where the Blazers, and staff, were staying. We just happened to be in the lobby heading for the airport at the same time Miller was waiting for his car. He spotted the Blazer logos on our bags and approached my television partner Mike Rice.

Rice asked Miller if he was hoping to become a Blazer. "Oh man, you've got to help me out if you can (not knowing who we were, obviously, and the fact that we have zero juice in this department). I really want this. This is the perfect fit for me, and things are looking very good. I can help this team."

This is why Reyes says the Blazers' owners have "it all mixed up," that this Northwest city didn't need a championship to be happy, that it was satisfied knowing a quality person was on the team. Perhaps some see that as naive, inconsistent with society's conception of professional sport, in which winning games is paramount and philanthropy is an occasional benefit. Perhaps some would even say Reyes' opinion is self-serving, because of Grant's benefit to him.
