A slow day in sports, and I ran across this article that I'm assuming most of you haven't seen or heard. It's always nice to hear about pro-athletes, especially ones with rough childhoods, doing the right thing. It is a great article and should be read by all.

Humorous Recruiting "Star" System

Pac-10 Recruiting: Oregon State's 2004 Class One to Remember

+

A neat article if you have five minutes, it takes a look at Oregon State's recruiting classes from 2002-2005 and how they panned out. One interesting thing to note, is we always talk about how Mike Riley does more with less, and wonders what he would do with better players: It appears every time we get a 4 or 5 star guy, he doesn't pan out. Something to discuss. It also looks like he is doing this for every Pac-10 school, so it could be interesting to see who is getting the most bang for their buck

Rallying the Legend: Halfway through Conference Play

1

We're halfway through the Pac-10 season, and Oregon State has nearly doubled everyone's expectations, if not more. That's pretty darn-near close to an exponential growth model, my friend.

Jefferson Switches it Up

+

Ashton Jefferson, 6'2", 195 pound running back from Alvin, Texas just committed to Oregon State, site unseen. He had an offer and a commitment to Utah State, but decided that the Pac10 is where he wanted to be. He runs a 4.45 40, and will be a nice edition to the squad, as we desperately need running backs. With National Signing Day only two days away, it appears that we have locked up our class. Don't look for any big changes, but expect a full report of our signing class by Wednesday. GO BEAVS

All I heard since April when I got here was, coach you don't have to win any games just win the Civil War. I was feeling the pressure this week. I'm just so happy. We have a locker room of guys who have never won a Civil War so this was a first for them and a first for me. The best number on the stat sheet is the attendance, 10,129. We had a bunch of folks here who have never been here and have now seen us live... I have to tell you, that student section looked pretty good standing over there from my vantage point. People are going to find out that it is tough to play here. --Coach Craig Robinson, on the Civil War atmosphere after the game

Hey all, here is the Pac10 Roundtable for this week... Thanks to all the blog sites for making this happen. Let's get it started!! 1.  Do you think Cal and Stanford fans would still have voted for...

Gwacham Headed to OSU

1

6'6", 205 pound wide receiver Obum Gwacham of Chino Hills, California, committed to Oregon State yesterday. It was a grayshirt offer that we gave to him, but he took it anyways. Receiver was a question mark up until a few days ago, and it appears we are solid there for a few years to come.

As the Oregon State coaching staff hits the final stretch until Signing Day, they received good news that 6-foot, 170 athlete Rashaad Reynolds from San Fernando (Calif.) verbally committed to play for Oregon State. San Fernando coach Tim Hernandez confirmed that Reynolds committed and said that the Beavers were getting a good player. "Yes, he committed yesterday," said Hernandez. "He is a great kid and a great player. He will perform well for the Beavers both on the field and in the classroom."

Boyd Visiting Oregon State

5

According to Beaver Blitz Terrence Boyd, the #50 rated basketball player in the country, is visiting Oregon State this weekend. He is a 6'5", 225 pound small forward. Currently, he says, Oregon State is the leader for his services: "I have a top five school list of UConn, Kentucky, Pittsburgh, Oregon State and Kansas State," said Boyd. "Oregon State is my leader right now because the coaches have been spending a lot of time recruiting me and are showing me the most love." He also says that he will most likely not commit to a school until he has taken all his visits. Looks like Craig Robinson is getting it done on the recruiting trail. Getting Boyd to commit would be huge. This is turning out to be our best recruiting class in a long, long time.

Beavs Earn Commitment from WR

+

According to Beaver Blitz, 6'2" 165 pound receiver Kevin Cummings from Encino, CA, has committed to Oregon State. He is a 3-star WR from Crespi High School, and had originally committed to San Diego State before visiting last weekend and receiving an offer from the OSU coaching staff. This is good news, as one extra WR was almost necessary given the question marks surrounding our current WRs

Lost One, but Gained Another

+

So it sounds like we lost RB Tramaine Thompson to Kansas State. But recruiting, like momentum, swings back and forth. JUCO Cornerback Cory Smith, who had committed to Oregon State, then switched his commitment to Nevada, switched back to Oregon State. At this point, we needed both a RB and a DB, but we wish Tramaine the best of luck at Kansas State and wish to welcome Cory Smith to the Beaver family. GO BEAVS

"I committed to Oregon State earlier today," said Cunningham. "It is a great fit for me and I'm excited to play for Coach Robinson who is both a great mentor and coach." --Jared Cunningham, 4-star PG from San Leandro, CA #13 rated Point Guard and #70 overall player in the class of 09 For those not keeping track, this is now three big commitments: 4-star SG Roberto Nelson 4-star PG Jared Cunningham 3-star PF/C Joe Burton It appears we are Rallying the Legend! Hey guys. So I was looking up our future schedules and came across this website. As tough as our schedule is for conference, it is pretty favorable non-conference, and we could definitely be looking at 3-0 going into conference play. Also, we have a bye week before the Civil War next year. That is HUGE! But more importantly, check the years 2011, 2013, 2014, and 2015. I know that is quite a ways down the road, but it appears locked up some more home-and-homes with quality teams, Minnesota and Wisconsin. I appears that we might be moving away from the "we'll play you once at your place" mentality, which is awesome!

So here's a little Holiday song that a friend read in the Orange County Register. Enjoy! JACQUIZZ THE SHORT-LEGGED BEAVER (Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer) You know Barnes and Beban and Pritchard and Vince Lou Holtz and Don James and not many since But do you recall The smallest Trojan-killer of all? Jacquizz the short-legged Beaver Couldn't stand up very tall Whenever he got the handoff He became a bowling ball Cushing was getting livid Whenever Quizzie ran around He'd run through their legs until The referee said, 'First down' There must have been some magic there In Beaver-land, I guess Because when Quizzie's work was done The Trojans groaned, 'BCS' Yes, now the Beavers love him And they shout it out with glee Jacquizz the short-legged Beaver Barred the Trojans from Mi-am-ee

It's Pitt! According to ESPN.com, Pitt accepted the invitation to the Sun Bowl today after their win against UCONN. They finished the regular season 9-3, but it included a loss to Bowling Green at home to start the year, as well as a 20 point home loss to Rutgers. Seems like a very up-and-down team. So, assuming we also head to the Sun Bowl (which is likely) it's going to be a rematch of the 2002 Insight Bowl, which Pitt won 38-13. Leave thoughts in the comments section

Washington State's basketball team leads the Pac-10 in scoring defense, giving up 43.8 points per game. Washington State's football team is ranked last in the Pac-10 in scoring defense, giving up... 43.8 points per game. Gotta love Cougar football. And I bet they love Beaver basketball.
