I'm a Sports fan through and through. I've been a Blazers & Seahawks fan since I can remember, just becoming a Portland Timbers fan, and a Mariners fan as well, although lately I'm too ashamed to admit it in public.

Eddie Johnson (UK, not USA) Appreciation Thread (and other offseason losses)
It's a sad day, as one of the original 4 MLS Timbers, Eddie Johnson, has announced his retirement from the beautiful game. While it's certainly hard for us to know what he's going through, we should all be happy that he is going to not have further complications from his multiple concussions.
Eddie's time with PTFC was short, but effective. He played in but seven MLS matches, and tallied a single (but most excellent) goal, but nonetheless he will be missed.
I invite you to share your favorite EJ memory (as well as those who we lost in the offseason that were overlooked in all the hustle and bustle) in the comments below, as well as your wishes for his health in the future. Eddie Johnson, you will always be PTFC.
"Best fans in MLS" apparently having trouble selling out 2nd home match
Apparently the MLS Cup runners-up are not a big enough draw for our northern rivals to sell out their stadium without a special deal.
Looks like there might be a chink in their armor after all...
Emirates looking to sponsor Seattle; SSFC Fans acting like gift from *insert deity here*
So apparently Emirates is setting up an office in that hated town north of us and is also interested in becoming the next kit sponsor of our rivals.
The reaction of the guys over at SaH is pretty damn funny...at least to me. I'm admittedly a newer footy fan but all their fawning over Emirates just because they sponsor Arsenal? I don't get it. I'd pray that PTFC fans would hardly register such news if it was us, knowing we care more about the shirt rather than who sponsors it...
Diego Chara's Favorite Portland Restaurant is...............Applebees?
I'm not sure why GCA felt this needed to be headline-worthy or even first 2 paragraph-worthy, but there's actually some substance to this article once you get past the Applebee's stuff (p.s. Never order steak there, they only know how to cook it one way: overdone)
Kenny Cooper Appreciation Thread (w/ poll)
As we near the beginning of the second MLS campaign in Portland Timbers history, we find ourselves saying goodbye to one of the most unintentionally polarizing players from our first season in MLS: Kenny "F-ing" Cooper.
Please use this thread to share your memories, both positive and negative, of Coop's time in Portland.
I remember seeing three of Coop's team-leading 8 goals this season in person, none more impressive than his rocket vs. the Whitecaps at BC Place. Nothing like the KFC chant in the opponent's house (our house, in the middle of BC)!
MLS and adidas unveil new ball for 2012
The Jabulani is out and PRIME is in.
Frankly, I think it looks like a whole lotta thongs. Perhaps the TA needs a new chant for 2012: Sisqo's Thong Song.
Jeremy Hall Appreciation Thread
For the second time this inaugural season, we say goodbye to another member of the Timbers family. Today's departure: D/M Jeremy Hall, who is now moving on to FC Dallas. Luckily, we will not see them until next season, so Hall will not be able to flame us like our previous departure (Moffatt) did.
Please use this thread to share your memories, both positive and negative, of Hall's time in Portland.
I remember each of the three assists that he posted while a member of the team. Those led to some pretty decent goals. I also remember some amazing 1 on 1 defensive stops, mixed in of course with some poor decisions that led to opponents goals and inevitably opponent victories.
I wish you the best of luck with FC Dallas, Jeremy Hall, as well as wherever else your career may take you. You will never be forgotten here in the Rose City.
Adam Moffat Appreciation Thread
Over at Blazers Edge, whenever a player leaves the team a fanpost is made to commemorate the contributions (small as they may have been) of the outgoing player. Yes, it's a little different in that there's 15 players on the Blazers roster compared to nearly 30 for the Timbers. But it seems only fair that we should have this tradition here on Stumptown Footy too. Because we love our Timbers. All of them.
Adam Moffat is on his way now to Houston, and I wish him well. He's the first Timbers player I ever met and got an autograph from, and I'll never forget that.
Please leave your thoughts and well wishes for Adam here! And good luck in Houston, except for when they play the Timbers! (if you wanna pull a Keel we won't mind)
The Lumberyard: Derby Edition 7/6-7/11
The gap between these has gotten out of hand!
Well Timbers fans, it's time for the biggest match of the year: #2 vs. the hated northern rivals down at JWF. For me, it's a first, and I'm lucky enough to be present for the ass-kicking that the Timbers will surely dole out come Sunday at 1 pm.
This Lumberyard is devoted to the following:
- Favorite Cascadia Cup vs. You-know-who
- Tips on how to enjoy matches vs. You-know-who
- Anything else you wanna talk about too leading up to the match
- Talk about the match afterwards
This is going to be a great weekend. If you want to be really nice, come stimulate the economy some and buy me a beer! (j/k, unless you really want to!)
Look for the secret message, and you'll see Da Rules after the jump!
The Lumberyard 5/23-5/29: Sitting Pretty Edition
Again, the ball was dropped! Gotta do much better in the future!
So we survived our first Cascadia Cup match with a 1-1 draw vs. the color-challenged team north of us, and then we followed it up with a not-so-memorable 1-0 win over Columbus and their not-quite-intelligent-because-they-intentionally-chose-to-sit-in-full-Crew-gear-in-the-middle-of-the-Timbers-Army-section fans. Our coach has given us yet another reason to explain our man-crush on him. We're sitting pretty in the standings and we're on a roll!
How do you think we're doing? What games have you been to? What's your take on the remodeled stadium? When will Nagbe get his first goal? When will the team not depend on set pieces to score?
Answer all those and more below!
Rules after the jump.

Dropping Timber extending (briefly) olive branch to Seattle
The fellas over @ Dropping Timber noticed a lack of Flounder chant sheets posted to the web, and in kindness made one for them.
ESPN says we're #4
ESPN's power rankings see the Timbers jump up four spots to number four, behind NYRB, RSL and LA. Neat!

Saw this on the twitters, 37 minute documentary of JWF's opening night
The Lumberyard 4/28-5/8: Homestand Edition (w/poll)
So, we've really dropped the ball on this, so this one is going to span the remainder of this week and all of next week.
Well, the first two games at the HoP have been epic, minus the late match goal-scoring bonanza. Last week at LA we got lambasted by superior firepower. However, we got to see our new DP Chara in action, and there's a lot to consider for our Starting XI.
Leaving the statistical stuff out there, and speaking like fans, what do you expect in the next three games from this team? 3-0? 0-3? Who do we beat? Who do we lose to? Which player does what? Extrapolate!
The Thursday Night Experience: A new fan's first Timbers match

New chant suggestion... Whaddya think? With poll!
Ok, so I heard this stupid song the other day and the chorus has been stuck in my head since. I decided to post this over on timbersarmy.com in the forums, but thought I'd get your opinions as well. Let me know!
This would be reserved for when we're really filling the nets, like 3+ goals:
It's Raining Goals (tune of: It's Raining Men)
It's raining goals! Hallelujah! – It's raining goals! Whoa!
We're gonna go out to run and let <last scorer> go
Absolutely fill the net!
It's raining goals! Hallelujah!
It's raining goals! Off of every toe!
The Portland Timbers are
Rough and tough and strong and mean (repeat)
So? Whaddya think? Don't be afraid to tell me. And if anyone really knows the song well, feel free to make changes!
The Lumberyard: Home Opener Edition 4/11-4/17
The time has finally come. The seats have all been shined. The grass is down. the lines have been painted. Scoreboard is up. This Thursday, our boys in green and white will take to the pitch and for the first time have the singing and chanting masses behind them, intimidating the Chicago Fire (who gave the Flounders their first win of the season, coincidentally) into a collective mass of quivering jelly. This is what we've been waiting for.
For me, this is my first ever Timbers match, and so it is also my first home opener. I've been to several Blazers home openers, each of which are special in their own right, but there's one that I'll never forget; 2008-2009 opener vs. San Antonio, where LaMarcus Aldridge hit a three with like 6 seconds left on the clock to put Portland up 100-99, which ended up being the final score. Talk about emotion!
What's your favorite home opener memories? Doesn't have to be Timbers, or even Blazers. It could be your high school swim team for all I know, just throw it down!
(don't forget to look for the secret message!)

The Lumberyard - Art Edition 4/8-4/10
Wow, we sort of slacked on getting a new Lumberyard up this week!
So I had the chance to attend the Timbers art show at the Bitter End last night, and that was pretty cool. Some of the art was really nice. Lots of variation of paint, computer-generated, and hand-made stuff.
My personal favorite was a trophy for Timber Jim of a wood slab and a post with a tiny Timber Jim on top. That and the keg trophy.
Did anyone else attend? Chime in!

I am going to be there, hope to see some of you guys there too!
Buying My Timbers Tickets - A Misadventure & Poor Customer Management (IMHO, of course)
I've wanted tickets to the opener since I became a fan this previous fall. This is my story of what I consider to be a very poor showing of customer service, and an unwillingness to try and work with the customers.
MLS "On the Road" finds humor in Seattle
Haha! We're doing everything possible to steal Seattle's spotlight it seems, including getting the last laugh from the MLS reporters!

A New Fan's Journey - My Story
So, as most of the regular readers know by now, I am a ultra-new Timbers fan. Thank you for not holding it against me, and for helping walk me through the need-to-knows in becoming a fan. I have truly appreciated everything.
As we approach first kick, I've been planning on writing some sort of post on my journey, almost autobiography-style. Will people read it? I have no idea; I hope so. But Here goes!
More after the jump!

The Lumberyard: Post ASG Weekend Edition: 2/21-2/27
So it's yet another edition of The Lumberyard! Today's topic: The NBA All-Star weekend, was it Great or Gruesome? I feel it was a pretty lame weekend overall, where the worst dunk of the round won the Dunk Contest, and the All-Star Game itself, which is the worst basketball game of the year, featuring hyped players from losing teams when players as good or better from winning teams sit at home snubbed.

The Lumberyard: Super Bowl Edition 2/6-2/11
So we cracked not just the 200 level last week (on 36 hours less time, too), but also 300 and nearly (at this post) 350! Let's keep it rolling!
Which of the previous Super Bowls is your favorite? And how does Super Bowl XLV compare to it?
And who got one of those nifty pictures from the FO? I did! And it looks badass!

The Lumberyard 1/23/11-1/29/11
I find myself conflicted... Green Bay has the same colors (give or take a shade) as the Timbers, and as I am a Seahawks fan (which, yes I know, share the same colors with the Flounders) I am confused. BUT we also share colors with the Ducks, which I can deal with...
Let's try and crack the 200 comment mark this week!
