The Season can finally begin now that we have Quaterback
I think that now with are quaterback playing well enough we can now evaluate what kind of team we really have and what kind of coach we really have. I think that are O line looks much better with someone who can actually get the ball out of his hands on time and make some moves when the play breaks down. Grad has 9 sacks on the year and JRuss has 24. Also the recievers seem to be gaining confidence , Murphy and DHB have improved i know about the drops with DHB but give him a chance he is a project but i think he'll grow into a consistent deep threat. The RB's need to step up now besides Fargas who is playing like a man on a mission he is running his heart out and i love him as the starter but i think Bush should be are closer to come in the 4th quarter and finish games like Marion Barber used to for Dallas. DMac is not really getting the ZBS he needs to be more patient when he runs inside and let the hole appear before he tries to burst through and i dont know if hell ever get it i say trade him while he is young and has some good years ahead of him.
As for the defense we are palying really hard even though the season is lost and while we are not a shut down defense we can keep it close enough to win. I think if we draft on this side of the ball in the first round next year and i think we should we could use Rolando Mclain or Gerald Mcoy because we need to stop the run better if Mccoy is gone then maybe go with Terrence Cody but that might be a reach that high.
Finally the coaching, i do not want to change coaches again and start the rebuilding all over agian i say we stick with cable who has grown as a playcaller albeit slowly but i like his aggresive style. I also like that he hasnt lost the team and thy are still competeing. because that was the stigma in Oakland for a long time that these were guys just cashing checks but now we have a team that competes and has heart. Also i dont think that Al Davis is a terrible owner he has assembled a pretty good team doing it his way so please no more boycotting and billboards lets show up and support this team to show everyone that we like what were seeing. we have a team that is competative each week.
Jim Harbaugh for HC of the Raiders in 2010
What does everyone think about Jim Harbaugh coming back to the Raiders next year and installing the kind of offense we all thought we were gonna run this year a smash mouth run the ball 40 times team thats is big, physical and tough. I just watched the Stanford-Notre Dame game last night and was so impressed with Toby Gerhart and the style of play that Stanford was built around. I would love to draft Gerhat (second/ third round) bring in Harbaugh and with a few new linemen we could remake our team from a ZBS running game to a power running game with a lot of iso lead plays with double tight end sets and a full back on the field. Thats the kinda teams i love. Sprinkle in play action pass to get chunks of yards with the pass it can be succesful if u have the right players.
Also Andrew Luck is gonna be a star in the NFL he is a redshirt freshman this year at Stanford and he looked great last night in two or three more years he should be a first round pick and i would love to build a team like i stated above and then draft him to run that kind of offense just my thoughts on bringing Stanfords type of offense to Oakland giving us an identity a smash mouth team who plays for field position keeping the TOP in our favor and running the ball physically and beating up other teams. Thats what Oakland needs an identity we have that on defense we play man press coverage for better or worse but our offense is not consistent in its approach and i blame Cable for that his playcalling is suspect
Top Ten Drafts picks of the last seven losing seasons
Al Davis takes a lot of heat and I'm here to defend the man. He is a great mind in the sport in both on the field inovations and off field contributions so this is a list of players that i think he deserves credit for
10. Matt Shaugnessy
8.Loius Murphy
6.Chaz Shillens
2.Zach Miller
What do u guys think about my list of top ten draft picks from the last seven drafts let me know what ur list looks like
Gradkowski is the future!!!!
I am so sick of hearing how Bruce Gradkowski is not the future of this foootball team. Why because he is a 6th round pick out of Toledo where he threw for over a 65 percent completion perecntage ill have you know. The only thing that matters in this league in my opinion is accuracy and decision making. He can obvioslty throw a catchable ball and his decision making while isnt perfect I think will get better because he is coachable and works very hard.
This is a young man who has the support of the team and while he might not be a physically gifted player like Russell has what it takes to succeed, In all honesty he reminds me of a young Jeff Garcia. At the very least he has earned the right to play out the season.
If you have a better idea as to what the QB position should look like then i wanna see what you think in the comments section.
DARIUS HEYWARD BEY BEFORE HE WAS A RAIDER
THIS IS WHAT THE NFL COMMUNITY IN PARICULAR THE RAVENS THOUGHT OF DHB BEFORE HE WAS TAKEN 7TH OVERALL AND BECAME A RAIDER
http://www.baltimoreravens.com/News/Articles/2009/03/Heyward-Bey_Shines_at_Pro_Day.aspx
I WANT THIS KID TO SUCCEED AND EVERYONE NEEDS TO GIVE HIM A BREAK HE IS UNDER IMMMENSE PRESSURE NOT MANY ROOKIE WR'S START IN THE NFL AND ARE ASKED TO CARRY AN OFFENSE WITH ANOTHER ROOKIE AND A STRUGGLING QB HE WILL GET BETTER BECUZ HE IS A CLASS ACT AND HAS THE INTANGIBLES TO SUCCEED
I WANNA SEE GRADKOWSKI PLAY QB TO SEE IF DHB WILL DO ANY BETER I KNOW HE MISSED THE FADE IN THE ENDZONE BUT ONCE HE GETS HIS FIRST TD HE WILL RELAX
GOD DAMMIT I KNOW WE SUCK BUT THIS IS OUR TEAM AND IMAGINE WHAT UR LIFE WOULD BE LIKE WITHOUT THE RAIDERS...YEA THATS WHAT I THOUGHT PRETTY SHITTY NOW WE ARENT THE ONLY TEAM TO MISS ON DRAFT PICKS AND HAVE A QB STRUGGLE BUT WE ARE THE ONLY TEAM TO HAVE THE SAME FRONT OFFICE THROUGH ALL THE LOSING YEARS OTHER TEAMS HAVE TURNOVER AT THE TOP THAT LIMITS ACCOUNTABILITY FOR PAST MISTAKES ... JUST BE GRATEFUL UR TEAM IS ONE OF THE FEW TEAMS THAT HAVE 3 ... YES 3 SUPERBOWL WINS ... WE PLAYED VINCE LOMBARDI IN SUPER BOWL TWO AND THAT JUST A SMALL BIT OF OUR AWESOME HISTORY THATS AMAZING STUFF...JOHN MADDEN THE BEST HC OF ALL TIME COME ON WE ARE AWESOME... WE COULD LOSE FOR THE NEXT 7 YRS AND STILL HAVE WINNING RECORDS AGAINST MOST TEAMS
WE ARE THE WORST TEAM IN THE NFL PERIOD
There is no way we do not end up with the first pick in the draft. And that is no guarentee that we will get any help for this team because we have not gotten any production out of our last three first round picks and you can not miss in the first round that often and still compete. We need alot of changes from our QB to our O line to our defensive sheme ... we are not gonna be a good team for along time not for many mnay years so i dont know what to say anymore we're just an embarrassment
I WANT VICK
Listen everyone Michael Vick is someone who has what this team needs he is a playmaker, he will sell out our home games, and make our running attack as good as advertised. We have to be realistic about JR he is not a QB in this league he belongs in the UFL at best.
I would be willing to trade for Vick if the Eagles were willing maybe as high as a third and a late round pick, but if that isn't gonna happen then I think we should seriously look into getting him in the offseason because I don't think the Eagles are gonna keep him and Kolb because Vick is set to make 5 million bucks in 2010.
I really wanna know what you guys think Vick is young 29 yrs old and someone who we can build around for the future so he is the opposite of Garcia (you guys might remeber i wanted Garcia to start this year) also he would come relatively cheap for a starting QB. Also if we cut JR in 2010 all that deap cap space would be applied in an uncapped year excpet for his signing bonus which is prorated i beleive over the length of the contract but im not sure any way get rid of him and get Vick in here. Please AL four US make this happen
Next Years QB
I think that Jason Cambell would be a really good fit for our offense he is a good drop back play action passer who was never meant to play in a west coast offense like he is now he is like JR lite and would come very cheap probably off the waiver wire unless his contract is up which i think it might be so he would be open to a short low cost deal if their were no other takers and there probably wont be.
This is the best option becuz i dont wanna draft another qb we need talent up front at the C position and RT so im ready to give up on JR and just cut him give him his guarenteed dough and get rid of him
On another subject tommy kelly looked awesome on sunday
a quickie before work
we have a lot of injuries do dont underestimate that okay guys ... im not delusional so bear with me first we need to get our oline back we gotta start with this up front to be competive
- Henderson LT Gallery LG Morris C Carlisle RG Barnes RT
unitl that happens then the run game might be suspect also we need to get shillens back asap i dont think losing mcfadden will be so bad other than that its just the qb and thats not channging so we just gotta hope he gets better i wanna hear everyone take oon our staring five up front...
Also i wouldnt mind seeing what Mitchell can do playing center field and bring huff off the bench in nickel packages thats my ideas i know its bad but i want this team to at least get better we cant tailspin through the 12 games left then changes coaches again its not gonna work .....it cant work
Possible RB depth
I think that we need to secure some depth behind MJD and with the recent signing of Edgerrin James who i secretly wished we were gonna sign for a one year contract and the subsequent release of TJ Duckett made me think of available veteran RB who while they may be a little long in the tooth they could very well provide what i think keeping Fred Taylor would have provided, minus the leadership.
Deuce McAllister 6'1" 232 9 yr veteran last yr played in 13 games started 6
Reuben Droughns 5'11" 213 9 yr veteran last yr played in 12 games started none ended the yr on IR
Chris Perry 6'0" 224 6 yr veteran last yr played in 13 games started 6
Tatum Bell 5'11" 213 6 yr veteran last yr played in 7 games started 3
and obviosly the countless cuts made by other teams who would come prob cheaper than thse guys but none the less food for thought. Also Lorenzo Neal could open holes for Greg jones like he did for Leron Mclain last yr in Baltimore he was cut by Oakland recently. Loius Rankin is a player i like alot in Oakland who may be headed to the PS so he could be had if they decide to keep Justin Fargas instead and if they dont i think Justin Fargas is a solid backup.
3-4 or 4-3?
Which are u guys more in love with as our base defense because i am not a fan of going back and forth and i don't think that players like it either. In San Francisco the 49ers under Mike Nolan were a hybrid team and the players there didn't respond and felt they were confused and hamstrung by too much thinking and not enough continuity. In my opinion u make the move wholeheartedly if ur gonna do it u do it with what u got and u keep moving in that direction with ur personnel year after year or u don't do it t all. This makes sense if and only if u believe that Groves and Harvey will benefit form standing up and playing OLB in the 3-4. U also have to believe that Knighton is ur NT of the future and Henderson can hold it down until then. The five technique ends are gonna be a differnt story u could try Meier and Hayward or Ellison and Landry or any combination of the four. U could aslo play a 3-4 front similair to the Ravens and go with a NT,a DT and a DE with Harvey or Groves whoever is better on the weak side lining up as the other DE just playing OLB. All of this is a considerable amount of practice and change from a defense that i think just had a down year and i do believe that Groves and especially Harvey are ready to have big years. So keep the 4-3 and let the young guys learn. Oh yea i have no idea who would be best at ILB in the 3-4. What do u guys think about our base D.
Jacksonville should host the Super Bowl sooner than later
I think that Jacksonville is the perfect site for the Super Bowl and although the 2004 Super Bowl was held at Alltell Stadium there needs to be plans to hold anohter one there sooner rather than later. The economic boost that it could bring to the city and the renewed interest in Pro Football could be just what the Jags need to become a more succesful franchise. I know winning is what everyone thinks is gonna solve the problem but it is not possible to win every year the league is designed to have parity. Things such as the salary cap and the revenue sharing are all components of this plan to limit teams ability to stockpile talent and therefore win every year. So instead of just waiting for the team to win in order to sell tickets i think the league needs to make the city a destination for football's premier game.
I think that a plan to host the SuperBowl and maybe the Pro Bowl , it doesn't have to be the same year obviosly but i think the league should help this relativley new franchise. If u look at all the other cities with new franchise thier is a history of football franchises like in Houston or Baltimore but not in Jacksonville so it stands to reason that the city might need a spark to draw sustained interest. I now that the first year the Jags were in business they led the league in revenue but times have changed and the econimc downturn is really hurting this team. I think that the Pro Bowl in Miami is B.S. we should have that game in Jacksonville why does Miami need an infusion of cash and a means of generating interest in Pro Football and the answer is they don't their games are not being blacked out so what gives. So Roger Goodell u have to give a shot in the arm to the team that needs it most.
The Business of Football
this is a must read for all Jags Fans becuz we need to realize the dire predicament the team is in
MJD could become the next Brian Westbrook
MJD is the new cornerstone of a team that has the potential of becoming a more dynamic offense. We have been a run first team since Fred Taylor and Jack Del Rio came togther six years ago and now with Taylor gone and MJD getting a new deal for five-years, $31 million dollars that included $17.5 million guaranteed the torch has been passed and we could see a more explosive offense come with that. The Jags have been assembleing the pieces of a team that can be more pass orientated. First of all we signed Tra Thomas and he has the skill set of a LT that fit perfectly in Andy Reid's pass first offense which just happens to be the team that Westbrook plays for a coincidence maybe, maybe not. Secondly we drafted two tackles to provide depth and Eugene Monroe while he was a gift and couldn't be passed up is again an ideal pass protector. Torry Holt's signing while many beleieve he has lost a step and can no longer stretch the field they are wrong and I beleive that JDR is feeding that idea with plenty of misinformation about his limitations and not being who he was. Holt will do wonders for this team in its attempt to get vertical.
I think that by splitting MJD out wide and putting him in the slot and getting him touches as opposed to carries is a great idea. I would like to see lots of screen passes and bubble screens so he avoids the punishement of running inside all the time. He can become a Reggie Bush, Darren Mcfadden or even a Brian Westbrook type asset. He will be able to use his elusiveness and speed to get more oppurtunities to break big plays. This can also add to the longevity of his career since he has had the luxury of sharing the load and i think it may be a good idea to solidify the role of back up to him with either Washington or Jennings or if Jones can show he's a capable runner than even better. Jennings and Jones have the size to be punishing runners inside and will they two and three back approach becoming more popular we may be able to specialize the roles of our players to better use their skill sets.
Their are some players to watch for as the roster cuts start to be made as possible pickups to fill the role behind MJD
Loius Rankin RB Oakland Raiders
Justin Fargas RB Oakland Raiders Possible trade
Corey Mcintyre FB/RB BUffalo Bills
