Great Q&A of Coach Yeo on AM1500.com. He's very articulate and incredibly likable. Here's hoping he succeeds here!

Via @SpearsNBAYahoo: "Wolves to trade Jefferson to Jazz for future 1st rd pick, 1st rd pick from Mem in Brewer trade and a trade exception, Y! Sports has learned."

Here's hoping they use that trade exception and turn the #1's into some more players! I like this deal for Kahn and the Wolves.

Twinkie Town Constructing a Realistic Trade for Cliff Lee

Several outlets have offered up Twins trade proposals for Cliff Lee and many seem a bit far-fetched.  Several have included Kevin Slowey, Scott Baker or Brian Duensing while others have used both Ramos and Revere to highlight a megadeal.  For a fairly realistic comparison, however, let’s look at the previous two Cliff Lee trades in the past year (2009 Baseball America prospect rankings in parenthesis).

It's crazy how good Morneau has been so far this year... here's hoping he can keep it up!

It was pretty neat being part of the standing ovation for Jacque this weekend. Personally, I feel that it is more than Jacque that we've been applauding, though. He represents the Twins teams of 2001 and 2002 who shoved contraction talks down Bud Selig's throat by scoring thrilling victories and bringing fans back to the seats. So here's to Jacque, Dougie Baseball and the rest of the Soul Patrol who made Target Field possible by winning the Twins way.

As a Marketing/Advertising guy, I started to think about sponsorship ramifications when Joe Nathan went down with an injury.

Did anyone have a significant sponsorship with Joe Nathan this season and if so... what do you do now!?!

Well… I found this press release while scoping out the food selections at Target Field (don’t judge) and looks like Caribou will be the sponsor scrambling to find a backup plan. Could you imagine having a press event at Target Field on the 4th and then Nathan goes down on the 6th! What’s worse is that they are going "closer by committee" which means there isn’t a clear alternative to Nathan. Nathan saved about 40-45 games a year, so they’ll be looking for a similar number of trafficked radio spots. If I were them, I’d go for team triples. They hit 40 in 2009 and Denard led the club with 10. Triple works with coffee perfectly anyway… triple espresso!

Regardless… what a headache!

Minnesota Twins Announce Partnership with Caribou Coffee at Target Field

The Minnesota Twins today announced a partnership with Minneapolis-based coffee company Caribou Coffee. The multi-year deal includes radio advertising voiced by Twins closing pitcher Joe Nathan, with all saves by the closer being "fueled by Caribou Coffee." The multi-year deal also includes in-stadium signage at Target Field, the new home of the Minnesota Twins, among other benefits.

"The Twins are proud to partner with another great locally-based company to provide our fans with quality coffee," said Dave St. Peter, Twins president. "We are proud to be a part of the Twin Cities community and all the excitement around the new home of Twins Baseball," said Alfredo Martel, senior vice president of marketing, Caribou Coffee. "Fans will enjoy the best home town coffee in specially designed "cups of Joe" with Twins inspired Bou-isms".

Twinkie Town Twins, Mauer nearing deal?

Signs emerge of Joe Mauer talks heating up!

As linked to in the game thread by Eric in Madison, Buster Olney is reporting that the Twins and Joe Mauer may be nearing an agreement that will keep the MVP in Minnesota for some time.  Mauer's agent, Ron Shapiro, was spotted at the Fort Myers airport Sunday afternoon signaling a possible break-through in contract talks between the Twins and Mauer.

Here's hoping... my fingers are crossed!

The Twins have signed center fielder Denard Span to a five-year, $16.5 million contract with a $9 million club option for 2015.

Here's a breakdown of the contract:

2010: $750,000

2011: $1 million

2012: $3 million

2013: $4.75 million

2014: $6.5 million

2015: Club option for $9 million ($500,000 buyout)

"It's a great feeling," Span said. "I'm definitely not angry today."

Good for Denard and love that quote!

Twinkie Town In Defense of Kirby Puckett

The Twins blogosphere was lit up with a very "ballsy" article penned by TT of Granny Baseball today.  TT asked the question if Kirby Puckett was a steroid abuser.  And despite several comments, including a statistics-based argument from Jesse, it appears that TT is of the belief that not only did Puckett abuse steroids, but that they were a factor in both his glaucoma and his untimely death.

I decided to do a little research and I strongly believe my findings prove that Puckett's reputation as one of the greatest right-handed hitters ever should remain in tact and that any question of steroid abuse should be laid to rest.

Twinkie Town Baseball America's Top 100 Prospects

Baseball America recently released their "Top 100 Prospects" list and four Twins were honored.  Aaron Hicks is their 19th-ranked prospect, followed by Wilson Ramos at #58, Kyle Gibson at #61 and Miguel Sano at #94.

For those of you keeping track at home, Aaron Hicks was the only Twin featured in MLB.com's Top 50 Prospects at #29.  He was also featured as Keith Law's 19th-ranked prospect for ESPN.

Ramos, Gibson and Sano also cracked Keith Law's ESPN list at #'s 42, 89 and 97 respectively.

The future definitely looks bright for our hometown nine!

Twinkie Town Twins sign 5th outfielder?

According to SethSpeaks.net, the Twins have signed long-time minor leaguer, Charlton Jimerson.

"The Rochester Red Wings announced tonight that the Twins have signed Charlton Jimerson to a minor league contract. The outfielder played in 31 big league games from 2005 through 2008 accumulating just nine at bats. He went 4-9 in those at bats, including two home runs. He spent 2009 with the Independent Newark Bears where he hit .335/.387/.567 with 27 doubles and 21 home runs in 103 games. This is a great signing. The Red Wings needed another outfielder. Jimerson can play all three outfield positions. And, when it comes to potentially needing a fifth outfielder, I would much rather the Twins go with Jimerson than Jacque Jones, Brandon Roberts or Dustin Martin. Again, he isn’t a difference maker, but the 2010 Twins don’t need a difference maker. I like this signing."

Good speed, decent defense and some power sounds like a solid 5th outfielder to me.

Fangraphs has introduced a new section on their website for splits. One of the first players they checked out was Joe Mauer and he has some crazy hitting stats. Dave Cameron suggests a bizarre fielding arrangement to counteract Mauer's tendencies.

Twinkie Town Five Key Questions heading into 2010

Just like everyone else on this board, I am completely overexcited for the 2010 season to begin.  This is arguably the best Twins team on paper since 1991 and I think we have a legitimate shot at making some noise in the postseason.  However, I think we as fans need to temper our recent "World Series bound" mentality a bit because there are vital question marks going into 2010 that will make or break this squad.

5.  Third Base

From all accounts, it appears that Nick Punto and Brendan Harris will be manning the hot corner this year for the hometown nine.  It is likely that we will see Danny Valencia at some point as well, but I firmly believe the Twins will stick with this seasoned combination unless it fails miserably.  The platoon should feature Harris starting against lefties and Punto wielding his wiffle bat against right-handers.  Harris hits lefties fairly well with a career batting average of .297 and an OPS of .785.  Harris hit rock bottom (.238 avg) against righties last year and although Punto isn’t a world beater by any means, his defense makes him a logical start instead.  Punto’s splits are near identical, but he has shown better OBP skills hitting from the left side.  Last year he coaxed a walk in 15% of his at bats as a lefty and that skill will be significant in turning over the batting order.

With the lineup constructed as is, any production from this group will be a bonus from the 9-spot but strong defense is essential to this platoon playing a key role on this squad.  For all his faults, Punto is a pretty strong defensive presence and his best position is arguably third base.  Harris isn’t a butcher at third, but he is fairly limited with a decent arm making up for some of his deficiencies.  For the Twins to be successful, Punto and Harris need to admirably play the roles of Mike Pagliarulo and Scott Leius.

Not sure if anyone has caught this series, but it is actually entertaining. I've seen episodes with Dwayne Wade and Tony Hawk and they've been pretty good. If you follow the link to ESPN, you can also get tickets to the event.

Here's hoping they discuss a major announcement in the future!

Long-time lurker, first-time poster. Love the work you all do and look forward to joining the community!

Jerry Crasnick of ESPN wrote an interesting piece about the remaining free agents and the Twins are mentioned in several places. It sure looks like the Twins just might get a steal in February on one of the remaining players.
