Normalized Love/Hate
Graphs excite me, and the posts on fan affiliations provided a good representation of the OTE community. But I wondered about B1G fans at large, so I wanted to look at data that wasn't skewed by large numbers of Iowa/OSU responses. For example, OSU responders went 7/7 primarily hating Michigan, and while there does seem to be a lot of Michigan hate out there, I thought it was being overrepresented.
So last night I went through both posts regarding fan affiliations and collected responses. Then I normalized secondary loves, primary & secondary hates. To do this, I divided a given voter's responses by the total number of respondents from their school. This treats each school as a single voter, with their love and hate doled out to other schools in fractions. For example, Purdue had three responders. They broke down like this:
Secondary love: 2 MSU, 1 UW = 0.67 MSU, 0.33 UW
Primary hate: 2 IU, 1 UW = 0.67 IU, 0.33 UW
Secondary hate: 2 OSU, 1 IU = 0.67 OSU, 0.33 IU
You get the idea.
First of all, the primary fan affiliations, as of something like 8 pm last night:
Primary love
All Green Bay losses by <= 7 points
So basically, if we had playoffs Iowa would be in the Super Bowl.
James Vandenberg Has Dealt with Worse
[Bumped. This is why we have the "gratuitous wwe" tag, people.--OPS]
First, I should point out that as a rural Iowa boy, I didn't have cable while growing up and so never got into pro wrestling. Maybe the devout fans here were well aware of the Mandenberg's former life. But if not, and if ye be afeared for the state of mind of a young quarterback making his first career start in a high pressure situation, well, afear not, fellow Hawkeye: James Vandenberg has more experience than you think.
Mitchell debuted in World Championship Wrestling (WCW) as James Vandenberg, the manager of Mortis, a wrestler with a persona based on the characters Reptile and Scorpion from Mortal Kombat.
Mortis:
Brutus:
James Vandenberg, also known as the Sinister Minister, sure as hell isn't afraid, so I'm not either.
