Casual Hoya Georgetown Midnight Madness - The Student Perspective

I was going to write a recap earlier, but due to both my procrastination as a student and the fact that my parents were here over the weekend (I love that Georgetown squeezes both parent’s weekend and midnight madness into the same weekend), I finished this up pretty late.

No midnight madness is as magical as the first one freshman year, but the truly great thing about the annual tradition is that it is a brief preview of what is to come during the season.  Sure, Kenner League opens our eyes as to how the players have progressed and how the new guys may fit in, but the student energy is not mixed in.  Campus was definitely buzzing this weekend.

Casual Hoya Complete Rumor

I have heard through the rumor-mill here at Georgetown that Hollis Thompson may be leaving to go to Pepperdine at the end of the semester.  I really hope that it turns out to not be true as it would not spell good news for a team looking for bodies at the 4 position.  This would put even more pressure on Lubick to step up and require Georgetown to get on the recruiting for 2011 and 2012.  Once again, I feel that this would have already gotten out if true, so I hope that I am proven wrong, but if someone can check on this, that would be great.  Word is that he has already let the team know.

Casual Hoya Georgetown vs. Missouri

While we wallow in recruiting despair for 2011, it is important to focus on this season... not just the opportunity to dress up like Moses at a game (Beard, Staff and All), but the schedule.  For those of us who try to find out what each and every game will be before the Georgetown Athletic Department releases the schedule, there is a rumor that we will play Missouri on the 30th of November in Kansas City:

Casual Hoya Is playing sick an excuse for losing?

My uncle has been really tearing into me about these losses to crappy teams.  I include ND is my list of crappy teams, and that is why I was wondering if it makes sense to cut Austin Freeman slack because of his illness. The conversation went like this:

Uncle: Where's the "We Lost to RU" banner

Me: next to the "we beat nova" banner

Uncle: Is that above or below the "We lost to the Irish without Luke" one?

Me: next to the "we lost to the irish when austin freeman was sick as anything and was getting IV's" sign

Uncle: If you lace them up there are no excuses

I also talked with my friend who said that football players play through all kinds of shit to win each game.  He said players will play hard and well no matter what the conditions.  I don't think the case can be made that he was trying to rest up for future games, because he suited up and went in the game.

Do we give Austin a freebie for playing sick? or does that not matter?
