While interest in purchasing St. Louis' historic Union Station continues, it got me thinking about the former rail giant's role as it relates to the St. Louis Blues and the city as a whole.

Amtrak pulled out years ago and efforts to revive it as a mall have been unsuccessful so far. To me though, the biggest travesty has been a severe misuse of the enormous train shed which forms a bookend to a sports-centric Clark Street. This beautiful structure which once serviced upwards of 100,000 passengers a day now exists as a parking lot.

And while many of us Blues fans make use of this lot a few times of year, I can't help but think a new space like the picture above (which I poorly faux-Photoshopped) would be a welcome addition for Blues fans and an obvious pre- and post-game gathering spot for Blues fans and Blues families.

Tom Stillman...make this happen.

P.S. A Christmasy-themed version is here and some more potentially outlandish ideas for Union Station are here.

St. Louis Game Time What's a Fella to Do (for a Blues Jones)?

Here's the skinny. Six weeks ago, I moved to Chicago for a full-time, insured job similar in every respect except those two to the one I had in St. Louis (and believe me -- the full-time, insured thing just barely made it palatable enough to leave my fair, wonderful brick city on the Big Muddy).

Having secured a studio apartment (no utilities, thankfully) and random craigslist furniture, the place is becoming home, except for one worrisome development: it is now (looks at Sean's countdown clock...) nineteen days until the season opens up and I have no means by which to watch all the games.

So I need some technical advice. Details of my situation to follow.

St. Louis Game Time Chelsea Dagger Doesn't Suck; And An Idea For The Blues

Admit it -- if it wasn't played after every damn 'Hawks goal at the UC, and ad nauseum throughout their Stanley Cup run, The Fratelli's Chelsea Dagger is a pretty fun song. Bandwagoners pick up on it the most of course, but even longtime fans picked it up and ran with it. Fess up now.

With that in mind, there is one song that's been running laps in my head and, if the Blues were to take a song and run with it as they build what we all hope is a Stanley Cup season, it would be this one:

(and the Youtube link if the embedding got f'ed up.)

This is 'Slink (A Hymn)' by Locksley. Catchy, right? Not much there lyrically, but damned if it doesn't get you up. As much as we loathe Chelsea Dagger, it definitely is a rallying point for Blackhawks fans and I can see a similar response for this one. Blues when a big game, the foghorn blows, the fans get on their feet and the team raises their sticks to the seats as 'Slink' plays them to the locker room and the fans to the concourse.

And yes -- I'm a big fan of The Good Guys. Watch that show while it lasts because it's amazing. Which means Fox will cancel it in 3...2...1...

Would you like to see the Blues 'Slink' to Stanley's Cup this year?
Definitely - fun song for a fun team.

Nope - silly marketing method, if you ask me.

I'll Say...

Figured out how to grab the image...the old take-a-picture-email-to-self-change-to-.jpg-and-post-on-SLGT method. 80% of the time, it works every time...
