The Fin Reaper's 2012 Mock draft
Summary: #8: Quentin Coples (DE - North Carolina), #42: Brock Osweiler (QB - Arizona State), #72: Marvin McNutt (WR - Iowa), #73 Kelechi Osemele (OG/OT - Iowa State), #103: Brandon Mosely (OT - Auburn), #145: Tommy Streeter (WR - Miami), #196: Julian Miller (DE43/OLB34 - West Virginia), # 215: Cameron Chism (CB - Maryland).
This mock includes no trades. Therefore it will not be accurate to the final draft. Miami has got 4 top NEEDS going into the draft that must be addressed as soon as feasible. This means not wasting the pick to get a guy but insuring that we get THE guy to fill the hole on the roster. Those needs are QB, DE/OLB (pass rusher), WR & RT. We either have no future at these spots or have a very shallow talent pool loaded with question marks. We have wants (CB, seem-threat TE, S and RG) but those will have to be addressed later in the draft unless a can't miss guy is sitting there and those are unlikely for us except in rounds 2 or 3. Sorry for the length but I wanted to be thorough.
Round 1 - Pick #8: Quentin Coples (DE - North Carolina)
This is the lynchpin pick. Everything will unfold based off of what we do here. We really have only 2 foreseeable true options here. We either are going with a QB (Tannehill) or we are going with a pass rusher (Coples or Ingram). Whichever position we pass on is almost guaranteed to be addressed with pick #42. I cannot stress enough that we cannot help ourselves this year at QB. No matter who we select they will not see regular season action before our 2013 1st round pick does. This isn't a problem if you forget that we have had some fans going to extraordinary lengths to get the GM fired which may force his hand here. I don't believe Ireland will flinch from his game plan but it certainly gives him added reason to take a QB here since (A.) it buys him time since he drafted a QB that cannot fail until 2013 and (B.) we have clamored for a first round QB for years.
Now if Ireland thinks Tannehill is the guy and Sherman doesn't dissuade him behind closed doors then this is a pick I will be 100% behind. However after reviewing each of the QB options for us I cannot agree that Tannehill is the best QB let alone the best value in the draft so I will roll the dice on the hidden gem (Since I can't trade back). This leaves BPA at need here and that will be Coples or Ingram. I firmly believe Ingram will go by #7 but if he is here then HE is the pick instead of Coples. We need a pass rusher and Coples is a freak. Coples also should have a chip on his shoulder from everyone questioning his drive. This will serve as extra motivation to excel. He needs at least 6 sacks on the season but he can obtain this. Coples may need to work on his coverage skills for 3-4 sets since he is less skilled at 3-4 OLB than at 4-3 DE.
Round 2 - Pick #42: Brock Osweiler (QB - Arizona State)
If I was allowing for trades then I would have traded back into round 1 and picked up an additional 2nd rounder which I would have used to either trade back into round 1 or to take a pass rusher. If I felt that Osweiler might get taken I use my now late first rounder on him and then use this pick on a pass rusher. *NOTE* I would rather not take a QB this year but Ireland may have to in order to placate the rabid fans wanting his head on a platter.
Why Osweiler? Why not get Tannehill and be done with it? Why in the hell are we drafting ANOTHER 2nd round QB?!?! I can hear the boos already but examine the options a bit more closely and you will see that Osweiler has a bigger ceiling than Tannehill and needs only to refine his decision making abilities and deep passes to become a franchise QB. Osweiler is way under the radar for his capabilities since everyone is focusing on the top 3 and rarely looking at the guys in round 2. When they do they immediately stop at Weeden since he would be a 1st rounder if not for his age. Osweiler has hurt himself by his lack of workouts via the combine and pro days. Osweiler reportedly has tweaked his throwing motion as well and appears comfortable with it and hit his WRs in stride at the ASU pro day. His deep ball accuracy still needs work but he was money on short routes and very good on intermediates. He can refine that deep ball over 2012 and blow the roof off of the AFC East in 2013. His size is a plus and his mobility in the pocket is surprisingly good.
Still why not go for Tannehill instead? How about comparing the two based on their competition? Adjust the performances to see who is really better in other words. Both QBs faced Mizzou in 2011. Tannehill went 35 for 53 (66.0%) for 317 yards (5.98 yds/att) while tossing 3 TDs and 1 INT giving him an NFL QB rating of 93.0 (Not too bad). Osweiler went 24 for 32 (75%) for 353 yards (11.03 yds/att) while tossing 3 TDs and no INTs giving him an NFL QB rating of 141.8 (Almost perfect). If it matters to you, both went into OT but ASU won while Texas A&M lost. Comparing the two in their best games (Games where the QB posted a NCAA QB rating of 135 or better) you find the following (Click image to enlarge):
In simple terms, Osweiler was better than Tannehill despite playing better opposing defenses. Tannehill was mostly performing to what his opponents presented him with. Osweiler exceeds Tannehill at every turn especially if you factor in their lesser games. Remember these are only games where the QBs posted a 135 NCAA QB rating or better. Actually, I added Missouri to Tannehill since he posted a 131.2 rating and it evened both QBs out at 7 games each. Osweiler did have a 133.8 rated game against UCLA but I wanted to keep it even and the common foe opponent (Missouri) was more important. So why not Tannehill? Easy, because we can get a QB that is bigger, has larger hands (better at securing the ball; i.e. Fewer fumbles) and won't cost us our #1 pick while having just as big a ceiling if not bigger.
Round 3 - Pick #72: Marvin McNutt (WR - Iowa)
Why not take Osweiler here? The answer is that due to teams reaching on QBs, Osweiler can go anywhere from round 2 to round 4 (ESPN has him ranked 39th overall) and it wouldn't surprise anyone. Also as Armando has said, we should reach for a franchise QB. This leaves us still needing at least 1 WR, a RT and we could stand to add another WR and a CB. McNutt is an almost no-brainer pick that can happen anywhere as high as round 2 and as low as round 5. His size, hands and route running are very good and he should be an excellent west coast WR at the next level. I know he has a familiarity tie to our coaching staff but that didn't help Flynn or (I hope) Tannehill. Still, given BPA and our needs McNutt should be a given if he is still available.
Round 3 - Pick #73: Kelechi Osemele (OG/OT - Iowa State)
This pick was a tough one since there will be several needs that can be addressed here. We need an OT but we also could use help at CB, OG and WR. The deepest of these positions is still WR so it's out. Guard is currently a major question mark for us going forward (At least we have options at CB) so if a starter is there we need to take him. Osemele is a big load at 6' 5.5" and 333 lbs but he also has really quick feet (Especially for a guy his size) and long arms to keep D Linemen at bay. He mirrors his attacker well and can shut down pass rushers. Osemele played left tackle last year so he could potentially provide depth there but he can be a monster on the inside. He is more of a power blocker and would be better suited there than in a zone blocking scheme but he should be able to use his quickness to be successful in Philbin's offense. Another option at guard is Brandon Washington but Osemele has a greater versatility, appears to be stronger and wouldn't be a reach like Washington. If Osemele is gone then Washington is the pick.
Round 4 - Pick #103: Brandon Mosely (OT - Auburn)
This may end up being high for Mosely but this will depend on what OTs are left at the start of the round. Mosely is a big guy that does need some work but he has the best injury history, fitness level and experience of the tackles that I expect to be left here so he gets the nod. He won't likely start in 2012 but could elevate to primary backup at tackle and 1 injury could press him into a starting role if he surpasses Artis Hicks.
Round 5 - Pick #145: Tommy Streeter (WR - The U)
At this point we have solidified the right side of the o-line, locked down Brandon Marshall's replacement, and bolstered our pass rush (Hopefully with the scheme versatile Ingram instead of Coples but I digress). So now what? Well, we are in the BPA territory and our main needs are met so this leaves quality depth as the target. This puts a spotlight squarely on WR and CB as well as an potentially capable pass rushers. Was there any doubt I was putting Streeter here? I said months ago I wanted us to jump on him since he can develop into a pro bowl WR specializing in Red zone, intermediate and deep passing situations. Streeter has the size and skill to become a dominant wideout. He just needs experience and quality coaching with some time to develop. Why he didn't return to Miami for his senior year is beyond me. Streeter may be gone in round 4 but that will be determined by how many WRs in front of him are gone by the start of round 4. I would gladly take him at #103 if that is what it took. I would sooner trade back in round 4 and pick up a 6th rounder in next years draft but this is a no trade draft.
Round 6 - Pick #196: Julian Miller (4-3 DE/ 3-4 OLB - West Virginia)
I'm not a big Mountaineers fan but Miller has a great combination of strength and size and has serious potential as a pass rusher that can also stand up and set the edge well against the run game. Might as well double down on pass rushers and hope they both can produce to some degree. I wouldn't bet money on Miller unseating Misi but it wouldn't shock me either. This is a good low risk high reward kind of pick that might pay big dividends.
Round 7 - Pick #215: Cameron Chism (CB - Maryland)
played extremely well against Miami last season and could go higher than #215 but if he is there we should take the flier on him and see if he can make the cut. The other option is draft another offensive lineman here for depth.

Dolphins New Logo Concept. With Poll.
![]()
Just a thought for a potential new logo in 2013. First off, I am not looking for new anything in 2013 but Paul Dee is going to explore such options. So without further ado here is the concept I've put together. PS. At least this isn't another mock draft.

McShay continues unwarranted/uninformed bashing of Dolphins. Kiper and Walker Disagree with him.
Todd McShay says he feels Cleveland is a better fit for Tannehill than Miami. "I would say the Browns, because they are a better team," McShay said when asked which team was a better fit for Tannehill. "They have better parts around the quarterback position. Miami, I'm not sure what the plan is when I look at the Miami organization."
-And there you have it. "I don't know what their plan is SO it must be stupid. Ireland could be the most incompetent fool in the NFL (He's not) BUT Cleveland is still Cleveland. The only thing the Browns are better at is making Jim Brown cry.

Dolphins fans gather to protest and look silly
Well, that didn't take long. Congrats to the 30 of you for making us look EVEN dumber than we already do.
Bills come to terms with Mario Williams. Peyton Manning runs with tail between legs in opposite direction. rumor is the deal will be around $16 million PER YEAR.

Also reported by Omar Kelly, Ben Volin, and NFL Network (Via Jason La Canfora). Looks alike this is legit.
Sun Sentinal Article "Who will Play Free Safety?"
Moe evidence that the problem with Miami was incompetent coaching. Granted most will shrug it off as Ireland shifting blame but El Jeffe is basically bettig part of his future that Coyle can make it work with the talent that was here last season.
"Despite his disappointing 2011 performance, the Dolphins know what kind of talent they have in Smith, and General Manager Jeff Ireland recently acknowledged the old coaching staff used Smith and Vontae Davis wrong."
OmarKelly
And for the record, the Dolphins wanted a second round pick for Brandon Marshall. They got the equivalent of a 2nd round pick. Fair value.

Miami Dolphins Offseason Options with Free Agency and Mock Draft
Miami is about to embark on the most important off-season period in the last decade of the franchise's storied history. The book has been closed on yet another chapter of the post Shula Era. We went from 1-15 with a thoroughly unprepared former OC who was trying out the head coach job for the first time to bringing in a new OC turned head coach to try to right the ship. That strategy failed despite the guidance of Bill Parcells. Now we are trying a hybrid of the last two hires with Ireland joining the hotshot OC turned head coach. The biggest things that doomed Cameron were pathetic talent acquisition and bass-ackward, uber-conservative coaching. The talent acquisition was certainly improved during Sparano's time at the helm but the poor coaching strategy continued which took us from 1-15 to a combined 31-35 (Including playoffs). I have no doubt that Philbin will be different on the coaching front and we will soon get an idea of the talent acquisitions in the next 3 months. So let's take a look at some options for the 2012 Miami Dolphins.

Joe Philbin wants Aggressive, Creative Offense
New coach Joe Philbin said Friday the team will "absolutely" make significant use of the no-huddle offense, will exploit matchup advantages and will use multiple formations to keep defenses guessing. "We want to create mismatches… with our formations, our motion, our shifting," he said. "We may line up with no backs in the backfield.
"Next play, we may have two tight ends and two backs. We want to play fast, make the defense adjust. If they can’t adjust and if they can’t handle our empty backfield and if we’re completing passes left and right, we’re going to stay with it and MAKE THEM STOP IT."
THIS IS MUSIC TO MY EARS. CANNOT WAIT FOR SEPTEMBER!!!!!! If you had any doubts about Philbin being the right hire, then you MUST read this story.
Driver of the Phiilbin Bandwagon is the best job I ever had.
NBC Sports "What Non-Playoff Teams Need to Do this Off Season"
Peter King says trade a ransom for RG3 or Sign Matt Flynn. That settles it for me. I'm sticking with Matt Moore.
It's not that I don't trust King (Well, it kinda is), it's him saying INDY should draft a QB PREFERABLY Andrew Luck @ #1. If Indy drafts ANYONE other than Luck @ #1 they will need to relocate again.
Anybody else notice that Daboll is getting creative?
Reminds me of my heavy hand formation but designed more for the run game with both TEs on the strong side and the flanker on the weak side instead of a more balanced (Yet still overloaded) formation with a TE on each side. Its a great adaptation for the sweep since it shortens the pulling distance for the guard closest to the center.
Keep opening it up BD! Maybe catch some people off guard.
The real question is regardless of Sparano's fate should Daboll get to keep his job?
What I would do with the Dolphins (If I were in Charge).

I started writing this up before Kmb8488's fan post so I figured I would post it anyway. An abridged version with no explanations exists in that post. The title says it all except that this is gonna be a Looooonnnnnnngggggg ride. 2500+ words await you if you follow the jump. So strap in, if you dare!

I know this is gonna sound BEYOND crazy but let Tony finish the season.
Whoa, whoa, whoa let me explain.
Miami is on a collision course with the #1 pick in next year's draft. Notice I said the #1 pick not the Andrew Luck sweepstakes. We should let Tony finish the season because the team will either turn it around or they will suck out loud all the way to the a top 3 pick. Let's consider 1 given and 2 potential options that we could follow after such a disastrous season. First, the given is we get a new Head Coach. I know this didn't work out well last offseason but bear in mind that
(A) Ross will now be desperate and cave to just about any demand and
(B) the new HC will have a top 3 pick in each round to work with which means they will be able to do a quick rebuild to address our deficiencies.

Anybody else see a big problem here? Who else but the Dolphins could have a QB as their leading rusher and a RB as their leading receiver? For all the negative talk of Henne, for at least one night he was our offense (Leader wise).
Pre-combine Mock Draft (In-Depth w/ Team Needs assessment)
We all know 1 thing for sure this draft season and that is that we don't know what Jeff Ireland is thinking. Ireland has said he will recoup a 2nd round selection to replace the one we gave Denver for Brandon Marshall, but he has also said Gibril Wilson was a good safety. It's unusually rare for Ireland to ever say what he means in regards to personnel decisions. With that in mind, I'm still going to lay out my idea of what our draft strategy should be based on the current rankings of prospects and our team needs. Sorry about the length but I go for in-depth posts. First things first a summary of our team needs and why we are addressing them where we are. In no particular order:
QB-We have 1 signed QB, 1 that wants to go where he can start, and 1 that just wants another chance to play. Like it or not, Chad Henne is our starter as it now stands. Like it or not, Tyler Thigpen is no better than Henne. Like it or not, Chad Pennington will never have a year even close to what he did in 2008. This will not be addressed in the draft here for two reasons, #1 Getting a 3rd string QB isn't hard and we will re-sign CP10 before or after it becomes obvious that no one else will and #2 The 2011 QB class is one of the weakest classes in years. Technically a third reason is that next year's class is far superior to this years and if a QB is drafted next season (RE: Henne bombs out worse than Matt Leinart) he will need a stacked team to step into to ease the transition.
RB-Ricky is a goner and he will finish his career with the team that he signs with while Ronnie has put up 1 good season since being drafted #2 overall in 2005 so let's go ahead and presume that both our starters from last year are not worthy of starting on a playoff team. The RB class this year is pretty decent so the Dolphins will likely look to the draft for 1 RB since Kory Sheets, Lex Hilliard, and Patrick Cobbs (*Cobbs not being the answer) are available to take up the other position alongside Ronnie if the draft pick doesn't pan out/gets injured.
WR-This is all but set for us since we have a very capable WR corp. The only problem is that all 3 of our big guns operates within 20 yards so it makes it easier on the defense to blanket cover them. Unless Miami adds a speedy WR that can stretch the field (Yes Hartline has potential but if he pans out you would now have 2 vertical threats, OK soak that in) they will likely struggle with big pass plays again in 2011. Fortunately their are several quality guys available in the draft.
TE-Face the facts people! We need a second starting TE alongside Anthony Fasano if we are going to be a true offensive threat. Mainly, we need a more athletic TE that can really make LBs piss themselves at the thought of getting burned. This draft class SUCKS for all-around TE talent so don't bother looking for a great receiver that is a top-tier blocker. Fortunately, a pro football player can be taught to block (Apparently it is easier than teaching Ted Ginn Jr. to catch) so we can find an athletic TE here and let Fasano do most of the front line blocking.
O-Line-We need to draft some guys if for no other reason than to get rid of guys like Procter and McQuistan. If we can put 5 top level guys out there to start and keep 4 average to good backups then we should be okay but right now we have 2-4 top level guys (Counting Garner and Carey as top level) and maybe 1 good backup with a couple of below average guys. Expect OGs and maybe even a OT to get the call before round 7 is over.
ILB-Can we please get an upgrade over Channing Crowder!?!? Please?! Yeah, it really isn't as important as getting a ball hawk in the secondary but can't I dream?
CB-We have a great young tandem at CB but we have got to get an upgrade over Benny Sapp. Will Allen re-signed 2-10 so we already have Sapp's replacement.
Round 1 - Pick # 21-32 : Torrey Smith, WR-Maryland
I have no idea where we will pick but it won't be higher than 21st unless Ireland can't trade down. Now, Smith is one of the fastest WRs in the draft class (Sub 4.4 speed) but unlike Jernigan (5-9) and Young (174 lbs) Smith is 6-1, 205 so he won't have to bulk up (and lose speed) or risk getting ripped in half at the NFL level. There is a faster guy than Smith (Ricardo Lockette-Fort Valley State) that is NFL-sized (Lockette is 6-2, 207) but he has very little experience and can be had much later if the team wants to double down (Lockette received a combine invite so he may actually require a draft pick if he runs a sub-4.35 40) and Smith will be gone by our next pick unless he has a horrendous combine. Jeff, DON'T ask him what his momma does for a living.
Round 2 - Pick # 53-64 : Joseph Barksdale, OT-LSU *Maybe Marcus Cannon but let's see his combine and/or pro-day first.
Again, I have no idea where we are gonna pick in round 2 but I trust Ireland will get us into this round somewhere but it will likely be in the back third of the round. OMG!!! Its' not a QB!!!! WHAT THE HELL IS WRONG WITH ME!!!!! Do you want a QB to replace Henne in 2 years or a RT to replace Carey this year or next? If I have to choose, I will take a guy that is gonna keep Henne (Or whoever) vertical and safe in a comfy pocket over somebody that is gonna get eaten inside because he is ducking the speed rusher off the edge that Carey didn't stop. This guy has steal written all over him. Barksdale is an incredibly underrated talent that has some real potential for greatness and experience at both tackle positions just in case the unmentionable happens on the left side. Barksdale is a 4-yr letterman from an SEC powerhouse and has a sterling history of getting on the field and staying there. With all of the injuries that we have sustained to linemen over the last 2 seasons, I want a solid wall of tanks manning the trenches in 2011. With any luck, more than 2 guys will play every game this coming year.
Round 3 - Pick # 85-96: Rob Housler, TE-Florida Atlantic University
Don't be shocked if Ireland has to do a pick swap somewhere to get the 2nd round pick and I figure it will be here. This could create a big problem because the talent available that addresses our needs is going to start dwindling quickly (Except for RB really). If this pick isn't used to get Rob Housler then Ireland needs to be shot if whoever he picks here isn't 2nd on the depth chart or better by the 3rd preseason game (That would also be opening day if the season goes to 18 games). Housler is a rare breed and I HIGHLY DOUBT he isn't gone in round 2 if he puts together a good combine. He stood 6 ft 6 weighed 245 kinda broad at the shoulder and narrow at the hip, and everybody knew you didn't give no lib to big Rob. Okay, that is a parody of a Johnny Cash song but WTH! Housler is 6-6, 249lbs and can run a sub 4.6 40 making him by far the fastest TEs in the draft and faster than some of the WRs!! He has good hands, no ego and has been playing the game for years (IE. he is not a converted basketball player) since being born and raised in Texas. Imagine a set with Housler and Fasano along with Marshall and a speedy WR clearing out the D-backs. There is an OLB that is one play from getting ripped a new A-hole by his defensive coaches. The biggest knocks on Housler are that he played in the Sun Belt Conference and redshirted as a senior (Purportedly at the request of the coaching staff because of the logjam at TE). As far as the conference goes, this front office's worst draft pick ever (Yes, worse than Pat White) was John Nalbone and he was a TE from MONMOUTH! (5th Round #161 Overall when he was ranked as a 7th rounder at best!) so this couldn't be any worse.
Round 4 - Pick # 111: Jamie Harper, RB-Clemson *If Will Rackley, OG-Lehigh is still around, he should be considered here.
I know this is a tough spot here because RB can be so hit and miss but it's likely that the faster backs are gone and Harper does run in the 4.4-4.54 range and can be a 3 down back with his ability to catch the ball out of the backfield being very good. I have no reservation about going after somebody else at a different position of need here but either way, Miami needs to snag a RB or 2 in undrafted free agency if they don't make a big splash in free agency. Either way, Miami will have Lex Hilliard and Kory Sheets on the squad and almost certainly will re-sign Cobbs and 1 other RB (Be it Ronnie, Ricky or an outsider).
Round 5 - Pick # 143: Casey Matthews, ILB-Oregon Marcus Gilbert, OT/G-Florida *Could be Derek Hall, OT-Stanford but Hall didn't receive a combine invite so he will have to shine at the Stanford pro day. MAYBE Cecil Sorts III.

Versatile linemen are worth taking a shot at given the depth solutions they provide. We need serious help with our O-Line depth and Gilbert would go a long way to remedying the problem.
Round 6 - Pick # 165: David Arkin, G-Missouri State *Alex Linnenkohl, C-Oregon State is another prospect here.
O-line depth is essential to fielding a playoff team and we have seen better than most teams just how quickly those backups can become needed to step up. We've also seen our backups fail to pull through when called upon. Arkin has some very fluid movement and is an academic all-American with 44 starts under his belt in 4 seasons as one of the best linemen in FCS.
Round 7 - Pick # 196: Caleb Schlauderaff, G-Utah *Could also be Anthony Sherman, FB-UConn
One of the best interior linemen in the Mountain West Conference. Good size and skills and a 2nd team all-American. Caleb is also a student athlete mentor so he's more than some schlub who goes to practice and games and lives only to play football.
Round 7 - Pick # 197: Zane Taylor, C-Utah

This pick came from Jacksonville for Justin Smiley and a replacement to the O-Line ranks just makes sense here. Zane Taylor was easily the best center in the Mountain West Conference and is one strong bull (41 reps at 225, squats 560+). This pick screams potential for the future since 1) our current center sucks, 2) we have seen injury after injury year after year and 3) Incognito could be moved to center but how long will be able to hold onto him if he excels?
Undrafted Free Agency
Vai Taua, RB-Nevada:
Good, low runner with good vision, quick feet and excellent ball security. Career YPC of 6.45 yds and YPRec of 9.36 yds.
Darius Morris, OT/G-Temple:
Strong Versatile lineman can play either guard position or RT. Wouldn't trust him on the left but depth at guard and RT with one guy is valuable.

Can't Believe I'm Agreeing with LeBatard
I must admit he puts some proper perspective back into the Sparano situation.
2010 Reality Check
2010 has been a disappointment overall. Anyone care to argue that point? I didn't think so. We came into this season expecting so much. Many of us were talking playoff run and some even thought Super Bowl. After all, we had so many reasons to expect big improvements from last season. We had Chad Henne playing his first full season as the starter, Brandon Marshall being our new bona fide #1 WR, a new Defensive coordinator that would be leaps and bounds ahead of last season, a defensive draft class that leant a new look (Talent-wise) to our aging D, a full year of Cam Wake on the docket, expected growth from our QB-WR relationships, both Ronnie and Ricky healthy, and some of the best o-line depth this franchise had ever seen. How did it all go so wrong?
Anybody watching MNF? Now that was a great play call by Washington.
If you didn't see it you will likely see it on highlights on NFL Network or ESPN. Brilliant play call. The 'Skins blocked to the left with the TE on the far right side of the line going with the flow of the line. A fake handoff was followed by McNabb rolling to the right where he appeared set up for a pass to one of the two Redskins (WR & TE) that had come across the field from left to right. The brilliance of the play is that the TE was the target the entire time. The TE continues on a wheel route along the left sideline while everyone on the defense went to the right of the field to cover the WR and other TE. McNabb could have thrown the worst pass of his life and it would have been an uncontested completion. The play went for 71 yards. Please somebody fax that play to Davie and get it into the playbook ASAP. Thigpen could nail that play with his eyes closed. The best part was the TE bulldozing an Eagle like it was a run block and then going on his route.
What's Going On? The Real Problem with Miami's Offense (IN-DEPTH POST- Explains Everything)
Let me preface by saying if you read this and still think chad Henne is the problem and not Dan Henning then I pity your inability to grasp the obvious. Also if you don't read this ENTIRE post, you should be legally barred from bitching about Chad Henne or talking about how Pennington would have won more than 4 of those first 8 games.
This is a fact-based review that is going to focus on the whole picture to showcase just why we are not better than a .500 team. The simple answer is we never were better than that to begin with. I know, I know I just committed sacriledge by talking down about our magnificent 2008 season. First off, let me say that 2008 was magical and I in no way mean to disrespect the efforts and accomplishments of that team. However, everyone here (especially after Pennington was named starter) is focusing on this season as all negatives and 2008 as all positives. Many are even thinking that we will now go 7-1 or 8-0 the rest of the way and make the playoffs just because Pennington is back in the saddle again. I want this just as much as every one of you does, but I can't ignore that it is not that easy. Henne has his haters, he has his supporters, and he has those that wish he was Dan Marino but know even Marino would be lessened by our offensive gameplan. Please follow along and let's take off the blinders and recognise we have some big changes that need to come in the offseason because they aren't going to happen before April.

Someone show Dan Henning this
Ever thought of using something like this Dan "Forgotten more football than everyone else" Henning?
Is everybody associated with the Jets in legal trouble??
I'll admit its a pretty pathetic case for assault but geez, even Fireman Ed can't keep out of trouble.
Players to Watch: Training Camp Edition
With training camp at last getting underway I have been reviewing position battles and depth charts and wanted to post my thoughts but various posters have already gone over our depth chart, roster cuts to come, bubble players, etc. etc. I thought I would do something slightly different and list my top 5 players of interest going into camp. This is based on several factors including, likelihood to make the 53 man roster, overall ability, chance of impact (likelihood of playing during season), and desire to see player succeed. I’m excluding anyone that is a given lock at their position since I am more interested in how they perform when they have something to prove. The list after the jump.

Redesigned NFL Logos
Am I late on this? I noticed on NFL.com that the conference logos have been changed. I missed this when it went down originally and wondered if I was the only one. P.S. The Logos SUCK!!!! Standardizing the SB logo is a mistake and the NFL can suck it for altering the AFL style star pattern of the AFC Logo.
Nothing earth-shattering her but its June for God's sake. Bring on September!!!!
Anybody Need a Good Laugh? Poor Toronto
It's gotta be tough having you're markee name be a real lemon.
Bengals sign Pacman and Gerbil
The Bungals just agreed to terms with two of the most rubbish DBs in the NFL over the last couple of years and we are bringing B.Marshall, Bess, Camarillo, and Hartline to their house. They counter with Pacman "pay me now, I'll be suspended by tomorrow" Jones, and Gerbil Wilson. This is gonna be a good year. 11-5 baby! Somebody call Vegas for the over/under on Pacman being gone by week 5.
Maybe the Bengals should just change their name to The Mean Machine and purt Burt Reynolds on the sidelines to fully embrace the idea of convict/crap football.
