Drawing Conclusions: A Season Sketching the Atlanta Braves

It started, as one might expect, with a rain delay. Actually, it started when I was kid, when I first discovered the amazing things a pencil can do when combined with an imagination. But that's...

It's been fun drawing the Braves this season. I couldn't decide what my last contribution of the year would look like, but I was struck by inspiration this morning. Playing off a conversation earlier in the week, one Larry W. Jones throws his hat into the ring for the most hotly contested seat in November's general election: Manager of the 2011 Braves. In this scene, he receives a powerful endorsement from a political veteran. Next week, I'll put together a fanpost compiling all the drawings from this season. And a first for TC: a dedication. NCChopper's grace and charm have never failed her, and her good nature never fails to brighten my day. It is her presence most of all that I look forward to in gameday threads. Her passion and dedication are to be celebrated, phenomena unto themselves. Chopper, this is for you.

This one is mostly for the ladies, shanghaijim and myself. The rest of you are welcome to puzzle over our wonderment. In short, consider this the driving image for the Matt Downs for America 2012 campaign.

Reminder: Braden on CBS' "Early Show"

The chat takes place at 8:33 a.m., though I wouldn't hold out hope for some great Charlie Rose-esque interview. Anchor Harry Smith did most of the talking. Link to video when available.

McFarlane to Release Two Lincecum Action Figures

22

I'm probably the last person in the world to have heard about this. McFarlane Toys is preparing to issue two Timmy figures. One will be part of the highly-detailed "Sports Picks" series, and that's the link up top. Just as cool is a new series called "Playmakers," action figures poseable in several different configurations. Even at four inches tall, Timmy can bring the heat. Can I just say I love capitalism?

LINCECUM LINKED TO SACRAMENTO

13

Just for funsies: The Chronicle asks its readers who they want to see run for governor in November. Timmy's leading with a 30% plurality. Ariana Huffington and George Clooney are tied for second. For his part, Lincecum laughed off the suggestion, saying "All I got to say is that... I'm not going to quit my day job."

"A somber Madison Bumgarner rejoined the Giants on Monday, one day after attending the funeral of his half-sister, Dena Byrd, in [North Carolina]." What terrible news. His quotes absolutely break my heart.

John Maine, Daniel Murphy and Mr. Met appeared on Thursday's edition of Good Morning America to donate some Mets jackets to the show's "Warm Hearts, Warm Coats" program. They stuck around to chat a bit about the team's outlook for 2010. On a related note, news anchor Juju Chang revealed George Stephanopoulos burst into "Meet the Mets" during the previous day's staff meeting. Make of this what you will.
