Another STL Sports Media Take..Will Albert Reach Free Agency.

I hope the Cardinals do sign Albert.....I believe that it will put a stranglehold on their payroll for years to come. Lkewise, with their lack of depth in the Minor Leagues it will make it hard for them to be a competing team together year in and year out.

The STL take on who the division favorites are...

Sort of surprised on their views of the Cubs

Given some of the recent discussions on here about the Cardinals, their Salary, and Pujols, I thought this might interest some folks

according to this guy. Not saying this guy is necessarily right or wrong but his rationale for trying to prove he is right is just plain wrong. They traded a guy and got some crap and some extra cash in return...that has to be better than just releasing the guy, which was his recommendation.

...I did not think this was going to happen. I figured the Sox or the Angels would swoop in and take him. Recently, the Cardinals indicate that they would hold the line on a 100 million dollar payroll. In that same discussion, Dewitt III (part of Cards management) indicate that no team has ever won a world series with 40% of their payroll tied up in two players...It certainly makes ya wonder if the payroll line is moving since pujols is probably going to command 30 plus million.

Who exactly is running the Cardinals Organization...LaRussa or the GM. I have my suspicions. This should be entertaining to watch. I think there is a 50/50 chance that Big Mac does not make it to opening day.

It is not about you Bud....it is about what is best for the game.

If Dave Duncan does not re-up with the birds next year, I would like to see Hendry pursue him. His abilty to shine a pitching turd is unbelievable.

...I am surprised that this dude is still part of the Cubs Organization (albeit not allowed to play). I would have assumed that they cut ties with the guy.

Interesting thing I saw in the article alluded to Fukudome having elbow issues last year and it affecting his mechanics.

I read this story and I am always flabbergasted why the people of the surrounding community don't want to see the Cubs Organization and the Cubs Brand grow.

As a local, I want this ballpark village to happen so that the game day experience is better but as a Cubs fan I love that this patch of earth has turned into a punchline.

IMO, this further proves Selig's inablity to be a good leader. Any good leader knows not to start pointing fingers/laying blame on other people for things that happened under his or her watch. It serves no real purpose and It is only going to further undermine their credibility with the people that they are trying to lead/inspire.

His simple statement should have been: I take responsibility for not doing a better job of getting this issue under control prior to it steamrolling out of control. As the leader of MLB and for our fans, it is my responsibilty to ensure that all 30 teams put a quality product on the field within the rules of baseball and the laws of the United States. I failed that principle and for that I truly apologize. I hope that our recent testing and continued efforts to improve that testing will help to restore the image of MLB in the eyes of its fans and its employees.

While trying to confirm Selig's annual Salary, I ran across this article. It is an interesting read...especially the top ten things facing Selig back in 1998.

FYI...I heard and confirmed that Selig's annual Salary was 14mil in 07. That is just crazy considering the level of leadership/skill he brings to that position.

Bleed Cubbie Blue The Edmonds Article from the STL Post Dispatch

http://www.stltoday.com/stltoday/sports/stories.nsf/cardinals/story/3C80A0DA342907268625747C000907E1?OpenDocument

Article takes about his feelings on returning to STL, his exit out of STL, etc...

Decent article nothing earth shattering....

Nice quote on his feelings for his new teammates

"Guys on this team are not what I expected," Edmonds said. "This is a respectful club. Everybody's been really good to me"

The one nugget that I did not know was prior to his trade to San Diego, the cardinals supposedly had worked a deal to trade him to the White Sox and he turned it down.

Bleed Cubbie Blue Gallagher to the bullpen...Huh?

In this article...

http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/cs-080629-pitchers-chicago-cubs,0,5859396.story

Lou is quoted as saying that he would not mind having Gallagher's arm in the bullpen?  Does that mean Marshall stays?  Does that mean Gallagher goes to the bullpen if another starter is acquired.  Interesting stuff...

Lou's reason for wanting another power arm in the bullpen does not sound like a vote confidence in Howry or Marmol.  I think with Howry and Marmol and if Pedro can stick around, they have the power arm thing in the bullpen taken care of.

The only thing that i can think of is that maybe Lou thinks that the League will catch up with Sean and that until he develops a third pitch he is more effective in the relief role.

Discuss away

Bleed Cubbie Blue Pie to Mesa

I am a little perplexed by this.

Article on Cubs.com is saying that Pie is being sent to Mesa because of a hand injury.  I don't remember them sending Marshall or Hill (prior to this week) to Mesa when they were injured.  What is different about this situation?  I am even more confused since he has been showing lately that his hitting is starting to turn the corner.

Was he slipping into old habits and are they trying to reboot him again?  Any ideas

Bleed Cubbie Blue Dear Jim: Please Find me a #2....

I have grown tired of the screams and the shouts from Gerald Perry and Quade for you to bring me Brian Roberts.  I don't need Brian Roberts...My lineup is filled with 4 power sticks (Soriano, Lee, ARAM, and Soto), one killer on base guy (Dome), a great bottom of the order guy (DeRosa), and a decent bench.  I am balanced in my lineup...My lineup stacks up with most of our main competitors both National and American.

What I lack is a solid #2.  Lilly is pretty good...but he projects as #3 because of his suspect control at times.  Dempster projects as #3 or #4 because of the same issues.  Marquis, I only use him so that my outfield can get their windsprints in during game situations.  Marshall, Hill, Hart, Gallagher....Future looks great for when I give the team over to Mr Sandberg.

We have awesome depth...there is no doubt...but I don't need depth in the playoffs.  I need it to get to the playoffs...but it won't win the playoffs for me.  I need a Stud, I need a Big Brown to go with my Smarty Jones.

I will win you the division, but I need you to help me win the Series.

Please talk to Toronto about AJ,  Cleveland about C.C,

Sincerely,

Lou

PS...If you get me #2 Stud, I will promise to drop Soriano to 5 and put Dome in the #2 spot.
