Since Kyle Blanks is today's hot topic due to being called up from El Paso, now seems like the perfect time to spotlight a couple of his cards. As I mentioned the other day, I'm not a big collector...

One of a kind: Alexi Amarista Printing Plate

As I mentioned yesterday, I recently acquired my first 1-of-1 card. If you want to get technical, it's not actually a card; it's a printing plate that was used to make cards. For the last few...

The coolest Tony Gwynn card I own

I've never really been drawn in by the allure of relics cards. Oh, sure, I think they're cooler than being cool (ice cold!), but I tend to look at the price tags, calculate how many Joey Cora cards...

Kelly makes first rehab start since TJ surgery

Carlos Quentin also made a rehab start in Lake Elsinore's 5-4 win.

Three Chihuahuas homer as Dogs beat Cats

Jason Lane improved to 3-2 as the El Paso Chihuahuas beat the Sacramento River Cats 8-5.

A team made of guys who played for both SD and AZ

As I've gotten into the habit of doing each series the Padres play, I dusted off Baseball-Reference's multi-franchise tool, checked out the list of guys who have played for both the Padres and...

Two-Term Padre Chris Cannizzaro turns 76

Not only was Chris Cannizzaro an original Padre, he was the team's first All-Star. It wasn't as much a celebration of his achievements as it was an indictment of the inaugural team as a whole,...

How Padres batters have fared vs. Bronson Arroyo

Cabrera, Hundley, Nady, Smith, and Venable have had Arroyo's number, but Alonso, Amarista, Cashner, and Maybin are in his wallet.

Eight years of May beards

May Beards are a Gaslamp Ball tradition dating back to 2007. It began with matthewverygood birthing the idea, and snowballed from there. There are no hard-and-fast rules since it's all in clean...

Quiz: Padres with multiple 20-HR seasons

Today's quiz concerns players who have logged more than one 20-homer season while wearing a Padres uniform. There have been virtually countless others who fit the criteria of both being a Padre at...

Creating a team of guys who were Padres & Giants

Sometimes when the Padres are about to start a series, I'll utilize Baseball-Reference's multi-franchise tool and compile a team out of the guys who played for those two teams. This is one of those...

Eric Nolte Birthday Card: Second to one

Eric Nolte and Hall-of-Famer Barry Larkin both turn 50 today. Since you asked, as a matter of fact they have faced each other.

Cameron Maybin activated, in starting lineup

Guess who's back, back again. Maybin's back; tell a friend. #Padres reinstate @spidermayb24 from DL and he's in today's lineup. Club optioned Kevin Quackenbush to @epchihuahuas p...

Quiz: Padres pitchers with 15-loss seasons

Pitchers' win/loss records are largely useless to me, but the fact remains that they're still a thing. Since the Padres have lost a great deal of their games over the years, a lot of their starting...

Luis "Oh No" Perdomo turns the big three-oh

Former Padres reliever Luis Perdomo turns 30 today. I hate to bring it up since it's his birthday, but in his season with San Diego he became known as "Oh No Perdomo" due to his propensity to...

Kevin Quackenbush Gets The Call

Shortly after news came down that Jace Peterson will be promoted to San Diego with Chase Headley hitting the DL, Twitter was abuzz again with the word that right-handed reliever Kevin Quackenbush...

Jace to replace Chase

After Chase Headley strained his right calf in the second inning of Thursday's 12-inning win at Washington, everybody and her brother started guessing who might come up to take his place. Names...

Padres all-time Earth Day team

Every Christmas or 4/20, someone invariably constructs a team of guys with names like Steve Christmas and Juan Bong, so since it's Earth Day I thought "What the heck? My little garbagebrain can't...

Padres sign RHP Billy Buckner to minors deal

The 30-year-old right-hander will serve as a warm body.

Anthony Carter Headed To Japan

There are conflicting reports of the ins-and-outs of it, but what is known is that right-handed reliever Anthony Carter is now a member of the Hokkaido Nippon Ham Fighters of Nippon Professional...

Cashner on cardboard: The new stuff

I finally got around to getting some 2014 baseball cards yesterday, albeit due to no effort on my part. A few showed up in my mailbox yesterday thanks to my pal Marcus. Along with four Joey Cora...

Everth Cabrera Debuted 5 Years Ago Today

This day five years ago two players made their major league debut with the Padres. One of them only lasted five more games, but you didn't click on a link about Walter Silva. Twenty-two-year-old...

Creating a team of guys who were Padres & Indians

With the Padres in Cleveland to take on the Indians, I thought I'd revisit an old theme and mash together a team out of guys who played for both clubs. I've done this before with the Marlins, B...
