What WOULD it take, really?

We've thought about it and what-if-ed it into the dust, but I'm just sitting here thinking, "What WOULD it take for Mike Brown to step down as Bengals President, GM and Grand Pooh-Bah?"

We all know by now (even though the Bengals have never actually gone 0-16) that there is no depth to which this team could sink (the last Bengals owner to preside over a playoff victory has been DEAD for 18 years...I call that pretty low!) that would convince him that a GM might know more about football operations and building a consistent winner on the field. But I got to thinking after reading Kirk's "Trust Manifesto," ...what about going in the opposite direction? How much SUCCESS would it take for Mike Brown to decide, "My work here is done?"

Or, if not success, what kind of cataclysmic event would it take? What kind of edict from The Chancellor, perhaps? I don't know...whaddy'all think?

One-line answers. Pretend you're tweeting or something, I dunno....What would it take for Mike Brown to step down?

DALLAS, TX -- It looked like a back-handed way for the Bengals to execute the second player-for-player trade of 2009: pick up released former Dallas safety Roy Williams, then release safety Marvin White, who then got picked up by the Cowboys.

Unfortunately for White, it didn't work out that way for long. On Saturday, the Cowboys released him to make room for promoting running back Chauncey Washington from the practice squad.

For those of you who don't remember, Marvin White is the hard-hitting safety from TCU who delivered several punishing blows to opposing ball-carriers. Much to his chagrin, however, those hits weren't always accompanied by an actual tackle, as displayed in this 2008 preseason game against the Green Bay Packers...

via cache.daylife.com

White managed to hit Packers WR James Jones so hard that his helmet flew off, but Jones stayed on his feet and scampered into the end zone untouched after the hit.

One can only guess that the ol' tackling skills (never to be confused with "numb-chucks" skills, computer hacking skills...) did not improve for Marvin White during his brief stint with the Cowboys. We hope he catches on with another team who needs defensive help.
