Minor League Ball MOD Dodgers 2: First Blood

Figured I'd do one more just before the draft. I'd like to hear some thoughts on my board and why/how I'm wrong.

#18

Richie Shaffer - Drafted by the Dodgers in '09, huge power potential, may not stick at third.

Stryker Trahan - Love the swing, probably won't stick behind the plate.

Zach Eflin - Has the size, stuff and deception to dominate. Boo boo biceps not a huge issue but still an injury.

#51

J.O. Berrios - Live arm with a lot of potential despite modest size

Hunter Virant - Saw him this spring. Good amount of projection, deception, deep repertoire.

Peter O'Brien - Love the bat, probably won't stick behind the plate. Still just 21 even though he's a senior.

#82

Jeff Gelalich - Reminds me of Andre Ethier. Local kid, left-handed power in RF.

D'Vone McClure - Power potential from the right side, has hit good pitching in the past, probably ends up in RF

Tony Renda - Small second baseman with pop, glove isn't the greatest

#103

Max White - Very good speed and the chance to develop some pop in CF

Mitch Nay - Could profile as a power hitting third baseman if he improves his D.

Tyler Pike - Athletic lefty with projection and potential for three above average pitches

Fire away.

Minor League Ball MOD Dodgers

Thanks John for allowing me to participate. A little background info on me: my name is Jared. As I said in the application thread, I've been following the draft since 2004. I've written for a few blogs and my latest venture is writing about the Dodgers for scout.com. I've spoken with Dodgers assistant GM Logan White a few times about the draft, including this spring. But enough about me, let's get to the more important issue.

I've been a part of this process before and like it more when people are actively involved. I tend to draft the player who I think is the best available and not who I think the Dodgers will take. I don't believe in drafting for need.

Now that I've said my piece, let's start talking prospects. There are some hitters I like in the first round, mostly Stryker Trahan and Richie Shaffer. Both are power bats with defensive questions. While the Dodgers could use some elite bats in their system, I'm going to try to avoid overrating hitters.

There are some pitchers I like as well. Walker Weickel intrigues me as a projection guy. Zach Eflin and Nick Travieso are high ceiling power arms.

I'm anxious to hear from you about prospects you like, don't like. What your approach would br on draft day. Let's make this fun.

Minor League Ball MOD: Dodgers (Episode III, Revenge of the Sith)

Only 5 days until the real draft, less than that until the mock. The big board is still taking shape. Guys I'm looking at:

Round 1

Stetson Allie, RHP

AJ Cole, RHP

Delino DeShields Jr, OF

Round 2

Dave Filak, RHP

Jacoby Jones, SS

Drew Cisco, RHP

Round 3

Angelo Gumbs, OF

Chad Lewis, 3B

Adam Duke, RHP

Thoughts? Opinions? Criticism? Obviously there are more players on the board but these are my favorites at each pick. Doubtful that Cole or Allie would still be there at 28 but there's a chance.

Minor League Ball MOD: Dodgers (First Blood, Part 2)

Since the first installment was such an overwhelming success, I figured I'd give the public the much anticipated sequel.

I'll take a different approach this time. Who will be the highest player on your board available at #28? Who are some guys you're looking at in the second and third rounds? Which prospects could drop due to signability that you'd want to take a flier on? Looking forward to your responses.

Minor League Ball MOD: Dodgers

Thank you, John, for allowing me to act as Scouting Director for the upcoming Community Mock Draft. I've participated in two of these mock drafts before; once as SD and once as an assistant. I've been following the draft, and more specifically the Dodgers' drafts, since 2004. Hopefully all goes well and we can have some fun during this process.

My philosophy is always to take the BPA, regardless of signability, which differs greatly from the real Dodgers' modus operandi. I do often favor high school players, but that's not to say that I overvalue them or ignore college guys. I'm much pickier in selecting hitters than pitchers, as I prefer more polish from bats than arms.

For anyone who's interested in helping out, or if you have any suggestions or advice, I'm open to listening. I'm looking forward to hearing from anyone who's interested in discussing prospects or plans to get as much talent out of this as possible. Thanks for reading.

Minor League Ball MOD Dodgers

The Dodgers selections:

#36

#56

#65

#96

Without a first rounder, I'll mainly be waiting to see if anyone falls. While signability is generally a concern for the Dodgers, I'll take whoever I feel is the BPA regardless of the price tag. Also, while the Dodgers and I usually veer more towards prep players, I'm not against taking college kids with any of the picks.

Please post any thoughts/input/questions below.

Minor League Ball MOD Dodgers 2.0

So with the draft only a few days away, I wanted to get a better idea of what people want to do with the first pick.

Some notes:

-Melville's velocity has been back up into the low to mid 90s, so I don't see him as being as much of a reach as a few weeks ago.

-Kelly has stated that he wants to play SS as a pro and probably wouldn't sign if he's taken as a RHP.

-Collier and Wallace may not be there, as the Nats are reportedly looking at Collier and the White Sox are looking at Wallace.

Minor League Ball MOD - Los Angeles Dodgers

With no compensation picks this year, the Dodgers have 5 selections in the first 5 rounds. Here are the Dodgers' picks through the 5th round:

Round 1 - Pick 15

Round 2 - Pick 61

Round 3 - Pick 93

Round 4 - Pick 127

Round 5 - Pick 157

Over the past 6 years, Logan White has focused mainly on HS pitchers in the first round. But I'm not opposed to college players or hitters, given the right skillset. I'm just looking for the BPA. I'd like to hear some opinions on the possible directions we could go with the 15th pick.
