NFL awards Compensatory Picks, none for Seahawks

The NFL has awarded the 32 compensatory picks to NFL teams, as expected the Seahawks - who were very active in free agency last season - do not receive any picks.

NFL sets salary cap at $130 million

Per Adam Schefter, the NFL has set the salary cap at $130 million, which is a great help to teams who had less elbow room to work with, like the Hawks

Wake & Beek: Wait, what just happened?

That unreal feeling, waking up with the knowledge your team is the champion. And not just any champion, but the best by a rather significant margin...

Controlling the flats

This is a Super Bowl rich with various fascinating matchups that will help determine the shape of the game. Here is another one: the Broncos short passing game against the Seahawks linebackers (and Deathbacker).

Seahawks looking to bring back Michael Robinson

With injuries to both fullbacks, the Seahawks are looking to bring back the fullback that has been so successful for the team the past few seasons, Michael Robinson.

Jones, Holmgren and Alexander HoF eligible

LT Walter Jones, coach Mike Holmgren and RB Shaun Alexander are entering their first year of eligibility for the Pro Football Hall of Fame, three more Seahawks are eligible.

Gus Bradley Hired as Jacksonville Jaguars HC

Former Seahawks DC Gus Bradley is now the head coach of the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Musing on a tough loss for an excellent team

Seahawks lost, but the future is pretty bright!

Wake & Beek: A Festivus Miracle

These Seahawks are the real thing, yo.

Wake & Beek: Wake Up and Cheer Up

Things seem worse for the Seahawks team and franchise than they are. If you're a Seahawks fan, you should really cheer up.

Seahawks run defense versus the 49ers

An analysis of the performance of the 49ers run offense against the Seahawks run defense, and the dominance of the 49ers OL against the Seahawks front 7.

Why is Richard Sherman so good?

A pretty poor writeup about the excellent of Richard Sherman as a press-man corner, as well as assorted thoughts on other outstanding Seahawks players.

Former Ravens CB Danny Gorrer Signs With Seahawks

Update: Kregg Lumpkin was released to open up a spot on the roster for Gorrer. Also, WR Richardo Lockette and LB Alan Bradford were released from the Practice Squad and LB Korey Toomer and OL Rishaw Johnson were signed.

Maxwell has a "first-degree hamstring kind of thing"

First-degree is the mildest form, so that's not too bad. Okung was close but not quite there yet, should be able to go against the Packers. Carpenter is practicing but probably won't play for a while yet. Rice and Miller are fine.

Russell Okung expected to play Sunday

Golden Tate could practice on Wednesday. Charly Martin is still in the hospital and should miss a couple of weeks. Take the "expected to play" with a grain of salt, PC is notoriously optimistic about injuries.

Evan Moore, Wide Receiver And Tight End

The Seahawks cut TE Kellen Winslow and signed Browns TE Evan Moore to replace him. Readers of the comment section here may recall I was not a fan of the Winslow trade, overstating my case by...

Seahawks release Kellen Winslow, per Adam Schefter

I have no idea of the timing of this move means we still owe the Buccaneers a pick. Perhaps the "final 53" for the conditional pick was for the week 1 roster. It's also possible he re-signs at a lower rate.

Russell Wilson named week 1 starter

Will also start the week 4 preseason game against the Raiders. Pete Carroll: "Russell has shown nothing but that he is a quarterback. He is so prepared, he does not seem like a first year quarterback. This is an extraordinary kid. He just kept knocking us out with what he brought. (His height) is not even a factor. What is a factor is that he is so elusive and shows great sense. I've watched our team respond to him and they've taken to his leadership style." I am pumped. How 'bout you?

Seahawks Cut Terrell Owens

We'll follow cuts as they come in. This one is really unsurprising, to me.

Thursday Night Football: Open Game Thread

Green Bay @ Cincinnati, then Jacksonville @ Baltimore, then Arizona @ Tennessee. Which one will you be watching? Discuss the games here.

Russell Wilson Starting & His Odds of Success

Odds of success? Isn't the starting job his now? Around the League seems to think so, stating it's now "Wilson's job to lose", which...uh....ok? I have to admit, even if I didn't have any other...

Seahawks trade LB Barret Ruud to the Saints for an undisclosed draft pick

This makes Robert Wagner the starter at MLB by default. A vote of confidence in the rookie linebacker. The Saints needed a linebacker as both Curtis Lofton and David Hawthorne are injured and will miss at least the preseason.

Sunday Night Football: Open Game Thread

One matchup for us tonight, with the Indianapolis Colts versus the Pittsburgh Steelers. It will be very interesting to see how Luck does against a defense that isn't terrible, and how much the...

Coffee and Cigarettes: Seahawks Links for Sunday

Danny was indisposed so I threw together a quick C&C. Seahawks roar to 2-0 in preseason - Seahawks.com Jeron Johnson had an impressive second quarter for the Seahawks after taking over for Pro Bowl...

Matt Flynn to start Saturday; Sidney Rice no longer wearing red non-contact jersey

Pete Carroll said today that the Seahawks will stick with the same plan this week that they had vs. the Titans: Flynn will start and play the first half, Wilson will get the 2nd half. Tarvaris Jackson and Josh Portis are 'available' to play. Also, Doug Baldwin, Ricardo Lockette and Barrett Ruud practiced again today.

Why Seattle's QB Competition is Really, Truly, Honestly, Completely Open

The WR competition is the hot topic now, but the QB competition has led the way for most of the off-season, and is kind of flaring up in an ugly way here and there with Tarvaris getting first-team snaps. Brandon Adams removes some assumptions and gives a level-headed assessment on all three quarterbacks that I mostly agree with. The only typical exception being the discussion of Wilson-and-Badgers-OL, which is a point I view differently than most people (see comments to article for my views). Anyway. Read it. The QB competition is lasting on, and even from a media perspective there doesn't seem to be a clear front-runner. Plenty of people have their personal favorites but even most of them won't claim one QB has been "absolutely" better. As that situation endures, well, as Adams puts it: "I hate to be the one to say this, but we should brace for the possibility that Seattle has not significantly improved its QB situation for 2012 at all." I don't think the QB competition as we've run it is an inherently wrong process, I am a little worried about the results it may be coughing up. The whole point of the competition is to drive one or multiple competitors to greater heights. No sign of that working out so far, though we won't really find out in any meaningful way until the pre-season games. What about you, FGers? How would you like Tarvaris Jackson being the week 1 starter? How has the competition affected your optimism for the coming season? :lights a cigar:

Rams agreed on "huge" 4-year extension with Chris Long

WR Jermaine Kearse, CB Walter Thurmond, OL James Carpenter start training camp on PUP

WR Sidney Rice was passed just before camp, which is good news.
