The Phinsider A.J. Edds

Just noticed the Pats picked this guy up off waivers....can anybody else see us regretting this for years to come much like Welker?  Sick of seeing our guys going to the pats.....now you know Belicheat is racking A.J.'s brain about the inner workings of our defensive playbook and you can bet he will use it to the  advantage of his offense Monday night.   I still dont understand why this guy got cut after a pretty decent preseason.  Ive supported much of what our front office has done...but this one stings more than I can remember other moves hurting.....

The Phinsider Free agency could possibly start Monday......

Mark my words.....something the Pouncey pick gives me hope for......Miami WILL  pick up Deangelo Williams in Free Agency this year.  It could happen as soon as Monday.  Everyone has sold out on the heads that brought us Karlos Dansby and Brandon Marshall just a year ago.  They have decided this regime forgot how to deal.  Maybe its because Free agency happens before the draft usually.  Maybe they just decided to bash this regime no matter what they do.  i dunno.  But mark it here.....Williams will be a 'Phin

The Phinsider B-O-O H-O-O

So sick of the whining and crying this board only ever has anymore.  You guys are starting to sound like Jest Fans.  Pouncey was the pick.  He is now a Dolphin. This is Not in your control.  Never know what can happen in the rest of the draft.   So build a bridge and get over it already.  Get behind the team you have.  A true fan would.  Once upon a time this site was enjoyable to come to and have good positive conversation about the 'Phins.  Now its just all boo hoo's.  Think I'll find a different fan place to talk for awhile.....

The Phinsider Fair weather Fans with daggers for Henne read

I have remained silent throughout much of the offseason in regards to Henne. But quite honestly I am sick and tired of the fair weather fanbase Miami has. I proudly wore my Dolphins gear even through the dismal 1-15 season. Yet every 2 seasons I hear the call regular as clockwork...."we need a new QB". Ive watched draft picks traded for veterans. And NOT ONE of those has panned out. Remember Fiedler the fumbler? or Feely? or Culpepper? Green anyone? Take into consideration that though last year was technically year 3 for Henne, it was only his second year playing. Many greats endured a sophomore slump...and it was predicted last year for players such as Henne, snatchez and others. Yet here we are with the "hang him he's done" talk. "lets put our faith in yet another ROOKIE, or trade MORE draft picks for another veteran that may, but most likely wont, pan out." (Palmer anyone?) Get over it already. There will not be another Marino laying in wait.....at least certainly not in THIS years draft. These are all the same fans who were so broken hearted when we didnt draft.....Brady Quinn. Where is he now? We need to stop trying to change QB's every 2 years and give one of these guys a chance to settle in. True, Henne has some accuracy issues. But when he has had the pressure taken off him by a stout run game he has performed admirably. I'm not ready to try our luck on a rookie QB....especially not any of the ones available in this draft. And I dont think we need to give up anymore draft picks to get a veteran hand-me-down. It's Henne's team this year....give him a final shot to show if he has what it takes...and if last year truely was just a slump.....

The Phinsider Henning MUST GO!

I am so sick of watching our totally anemic offense.  We do not open it up, we constantly neglect using ronnie brown as hot back when he starts rolling, and honestly for all the hype Marshall got coming here why are we not throwing the ball to him in the end zone? There were times last year I seriously questioned the plays called by henning.  but this year has brought him into the spotlight since we already swapped defensive coordinators in the off season.  This years offense was supposed to be electric with a healthy brown, a returning fresh ricky, newly aquired "stud" marshall , a second year "marino-esque" starting henne and the "great mastermind" henning.  so far though?!?  Thats right, 1 td pass to marshall, ronnie and ricky not breaking through, henne sometimes looking lost.....and BAD PLAY calling by Hennin g.  stands to reason something has to give.....and my money is on henning!  we need some better calls

The Phinsider You want to talk Draft grades?

I have to agree with Matty on it being "too early to grade this draft".  But I also wanted to give a little insight on just how UNPREDICTIBLE any draft can be.  And just as we all want to hear how "great" or "ungreat" our draft was, truth is, only game time experience will tell us.  I bring this up because, well, we all know the stories.  The great "Busts" of the first round or the guy that came out of nowhere to become hall of fame bound.  I.E.-

Ryan Leaf was drafted by the San Diego Chargers in the First Round (2nd overall) of the 1998 draft.  Where is he now?  Last I heard, indicted by a texas jury.....

Brandon Marshall was selected by the Denver Broncos with the 119th overall pick in the fourth round of the 2006 Draft.  Then traded to US!!!! (love it) For essentially.....a second round pick in NEXT YEARS draft.  We all know and are excited about how dynamic a reciever this guy is, who claims he wants to be THE BEST ever!!  We all hope he will with us!

Tom Brady was drafted by the New England Patriots in the sixth round (199th overall) of the 2000 NFL Draft.  The SIXTH ROUND?!?  And much as we Dolphin fans hate to admit it....with 3 super bowl rings he IS bound for the hall of fame.  And though I will be the first to tell you Brady is the Product of Belichick's system more than a great quarterback (see Matt Cassel), he still will get his place.  In fact, I would love to see Brady play as good with any other team....

These are just a few examples in years worth of drafts  I could give.  The fact is, we have no clue if Rashaad Jones won't be the next Hall of Fame safety right now.  Or if Misi will become the next Gholston (much as we pray not).  Before rushing to hand out your praise or criticism of this years draft, let these guys get on the field and try to win us over.  Matty is right, the jury is out for three years minimum on a teams draft.  Lets start looking forward to seeing what these guys may or may not bring to the table for us.  There will still be a small amount of veterans released in the months to come as well...which could add more depth.  We didn't get CP10 until week 1 of pre-season.  We all hate the downtime that is to come these next 2 months....but lets not waste it over analyzing these new faces...time will tell.

The Phinsider Something to keep in mind about Free Agency AFTER the draft....

It seems I came to a bunch of Fanposts this morning about the Jests deal for S. Holmes, and I agree that it SEEMS the jests are striking while the Trifecta are....immobilized?  However, I want to take a moment here, with just a week and 4 days till the draft, to remind all 'phin fans of a very important detail.  That is post-draft free agency.

Every year it happens.  Now true, these names are usually a smaller group than those before the draft.  But these soon to be free agents become expendable with their current teams after said team drafts a guy they really like.  These are usually older vets that are on the down side...but can still contribute to the game.  However, you NEVER know who these guys will be until the draft falls in place.  By now we know the Trifecta does not look to trade draft picks, no matter what the round.  We also know that they Often do not make a splash in free agency, rather signing mid grade guys.  This year was the exception to the rule with Dansby, and I will admit I was glad I was wrong when I said it would never happen.  And finally, we know the Trifecta WILL HAVE a PLAN heading into this draft to address the needs we have to fill.  Part of that plan can and probably will involve seeing whom gets pilfered or jetisoned from their teams when a younger rookie gets drafted to replace them.  Expect a few signings of these players.  And who knows, maybe a WR falls into our laps from the poor team that takes Bryant....lmao

The Phinsider 'MT' Cody continues to impress....

Well, its apparent Cody is commited to losing the weight still, as he showed up at his pro day down from the combine at 349.  Not only did he show up lighter than the combine, but a wopping 21 pounds lighter than the 370 he weighed at the Senior Bowl.  And, his workout wasnt bad either.  Check Alabama's Pro day to see, as I am without any links available.  sorry!  So, I continue to iterate that if Dan williams is no longer available, which its looking like Denver is liking him more and more, that we move down and pick up Cody.  This guy will be a beast at the NT position and we are in dire need of just such a NT.

The Phinsider I stand corrected...

ok, so I must repent....apparently Parcells WILL pay Dansby.  I never ever thought this would happen, but as I was wrong I am man enough to admit so.

Not that I am unhappy with the move mind you.  I love it...I just didnt think it would go down.  Further I hope this means we DO NOT take McClain at #12. I am not sold on him, and with Dansby in the mix Crowder may just be able to hold his own.  At the very least we DO NOT need to rush his replacement in this year.  I'd still like to see us trade down in round 1 and get 'Mt" Cody as my signature states.  With the 'power pig' minding the nose and Dansby behind even Crowder should see improved play.

I also LIKE the Gerbil cut, though we obviously are not getting Rolle.  Not that I care...I dont think Rolle was the anser either.  I hear we may target Sharper, but since we are trying to get younger I am not sure that will help.  Guess time will tell.

The Phinsider Suh, McCoy.....and Cody?!?

Check out this report on nfl.com

http://www.nfl.com/videos/nfl-combine/09000d5d816aef60/Big-impressions

I have to say, with Cody being mentioned in the same group as Suh and McCoy on nfl.com is pretty impressive.  And as the Mooch says, sure the weight coming back is a concern.  But as Billick says he will be a force in a 3-4 scheme....

Wait, Miami has a 3-4 scheme AND a need for NT......Ironic dont you think?

As my new signature states, we need to move down in Rd 1, get an extra pick AND draft this 'Mountain'!!

The Phinsider With their first pick in the nfl draft the miami dolphins....

Should draft a NT.  lets face it folks, Fergy is getting too old.  We could draft any LB you guys like, but without a young, true NT none of them will get to the RB or QB.  We need to look at the top 5, 2 of which are GUARENTEED never to fall to miami (mccoy and suh).  Chances are none of them will be available at 12.

So what should miami do?  I like "MT" Cody.  He dropped 16 pounds from the senior bowl to the combine.  Sparano had good things to say about the kid while coaching him in the Sr bowl. And lets face it, at 6'8 354 pds...thats a force that would allow any LB, even medicore ones such as the ones Miami now sports, get to the QB.  Cause theres no way you dont double if not triple team that!

Now of course this will be a stretch of a pick at 12....and there is no way MT Cody falls to us in the second round.  If, and i do say IF, the feel is that we can trade down and get him at the later pick for an additional pick I say DO IT!!!!  BUT, if that "feel" isnt there, I say take him at 12!  We need an anchor for the defense, and I think Cody is it, and would be for YEARS to come.  Now I know all the kindle and Mcclain pushers (and addicts) will blast me for this, but I dont really care.  Neither of those guys will do much good with a creeky Fergy and a dismal Solai pushing up front.

Its a good draft for NT/DT this year...but not one of those good ones will drop to us in rd 2.  We need it in rd 1.  We can get good LB's next year...but this is the best year to get one of these MASSIVE NT's and Miami should pounce!!

The Phinsider Ronnie Brown trade talks....why?

Im very crious why it is I see so much talk and supposed "desire" to trade away Ronnie Brown?

Ted Ginn, I can understand.

But Ronnie....why?  Because he has been hurt?  Its a tough game.  You get hit a few THOUSAND times by frieght trains and tell me how you would hold up.  From what I have seen of Ronnie, he gives Miami his all.  Every down, every play he is in on, he is PLAYING!  When he went down this year....no more wildcat.  Coincidence?  Of course not.  Everyone thinks that they can run the wildcat, and that it is a gimmick that wont last long in the NFL.  However, NO ONE runs it as well as Ronnie does.  So as long as he plays, it WILL work.  Not always, as the Ravens proved last year, but it will.

When Ronnie blew out his knee there was NO avoiding that.  It was the tackle, not Ronnie deciding to get hurt.  And what did he do?  Rehabed and gave us his all.  This year he fractures his foot, another freek injury, and all of a sudden its "trade him out".  Well heres a little something to coincider....Ricky is getting older, and has publically stated 2010 will be his last year (probably got some pot plants budding in march next year).  Even if he did stay, he's not getting any younger.  So trading away Ronnie means we have to adress RB in the draft, either this year or next.  In this case you create more draft issues than solve any.

You know, it's funny how everyone says Marino is one of the few QB's that deserved a ring that didnt get one.  Had the club gotten him even a halfway decent RB in any of those years he WOULD have.  Best back in the Marino era?  Lamaar.  Sad!  Now we have 2 and all I hear is trade the youngest and more versatille away?

Why?

The Phinsider The Reality of it ALL.....

Ok, I love the enthusiasm shown here.  The 'pipe dreams' are incredible.  But having been a fan for some years, im here to burst a few bubbles.

First, lets get REAL.  No way in gods green earth will we EVER get Vince Wilfork.  Beli-cheat is far too smart to ever allow that to happen.  The man has made a career out of signing players AWAY from miami that have given him fits in games vs. miami.  Welker anyone?  No way he will ever ALLOW one of his to come to us.  He would sooner franchise wilfork and piss him off then allow that to happen.  In fact, dare I say, expect Beli-cheat to continue his piracy and sign a few Dolphin cast offs...i.e. Joey Porter just as he did with....seau anyone?  It has been his m.o. for years, and as long as he remains a patsy, it will continue.

Second, the dream is over.  Dansby is perhaps the most attractive free agent LB available.  But does anyone not remember that Arizona franchised him last year and could very well do the same this year.  And since they dont have to pay Warner, whats to stop them?  Even if they are willing to part with him, why would they just ALLOW him to walk away without getting SOMETHING in return?  Expect a tag...and then a deal NOT from Miami. Cause as anyone who knows Parcells knows, he does not just give up draft picks, and certainly not the 1st.

Third, I love the game Anquan Boldin plays.  But again we are faced with the challenge of draft picks for a player.  What will the Cards want?  More than Parcells will ever give up.  I hate to say I agree, as certain WR is a position we desperately need to upgrade.  But ultimately, Parcells has a knack for finding talent in a draft, and he will keep to his m.o. Keep the picks and draft our own.  The youth movement may not have benefited Miami just yet, but as we have seen in players like Sean Smith and Vontae Davis, the dividends are on the horizon.

Finally, in all, the dreams of free agent signings are understandable.  We all want something great for OUR Dolphins.  But the Trio are smart and strong willed and they believe in the draft.  Do not expect big name signings. Because as we have seen the last 3 years, they wont come.  We build through the draft, we live by the draft, and one day we will win it all, because of the draft.
