Wednesday Loser Thread, For The Ultimate NBA Losers
I know this is probably the furthest thing from the mind of Spurs fans right now, but the 2012 NBA draft lottery is being held tonight. And if you think we're losers, you haven't seen some of tonight's "competitors" in the Anthony Davis Sweepstakes being losers on purpose. The epic tanking race to end the season was as entertaining as it was predictable, but tonight it all comes down to the whims of David Stern a swirling cauldron of ping pong balls.
PtR Playoff Prediction Contest: 2012 Conference Finals (UPDATED w/Round 2 Scores)
Hi there, Pounders. So, I know we're all excited that the Spurs are in the Western Conference Finals, and here's your chance to predict a trip to the finals without upsetting the mojo.
Spurs' Keys To Winning The Western Conference Finals
So, as all of you know by now, the Spurs' opponent in the Western Conference Finals will be the Oklahoma City Thunder. And while the matchup has been relatively one sided in recent years(8-2 in favor of the Spurs), our frenemies from the wrong side of the Red River will likely prove to be an extremely formidable oppenent. This is going to be a much tougher series than the Spurs had in the previous two rounds, so let's talk about some of the things the Spurs need to do in order to get back to the NBA Finals.

Wednesday 5/16 Loser Thread
Good evening, fellow Pounders! We're all obviously happy that the Spurs won last night, but now it's time to talk about some other things. Like these things:
If you haven't already, please read this piece on Tim Duncan by Sports Illustrated's Chris Ballard. It's AMAZINE.
In other news, Bruno of SpursTalk tells us that Nando De Colo's agent may have spilled the beans about part of the Spurs' offseason plan.
But wait, there's more!
There are also a couple of playoff games tonight, and even though they don't involve the Spurs, they indirectly affect the Spurs. Plus, it's fun to laugh at the misery of other teams.
Celtics @ 76ers: 6 PM Spurs time
Lakers @ Thunder: 8:30 PM Spurs time
And remember the rules: there are no rules.
Grantland - Ending the Argument: Rust vs. Rest
Bill Barnwell takes on the myth of rest being bad for teams in the playoffs. Also, former Toros coach Quin Snyder does NOT look happy on the Lakers bench.
PtR Playoff Prediction Contest: 2012 First Round Final Scores
Hi there, Pounders. Remember that one time I asked everyone to make picks for all the first-round playoff series, and offered to score them all? Well, I finally finished the scoring.
Hit the jump to see how everyone did.
Watch Euroleague Final Four Live Right Now
The Euroleague Semifinals are today. CSKA and Panathinaikos are playing right now, but Erazem Lorbek's Barcelona team will be taking on Olympiacos at 1:00pm Spurs time.
The link above is to ESPN3, which is streaming the games live. If you're with one of those internet providers that don't let you watch ESPN3, try typing "firstrowsports" into a google search..
PtR Playoff Prediction Contest: 2012 2nd Round
Greetings, pounders. It's time to make your picks for the second round of the just-for-fun PtR playoff prediction contest.
To everyone that played our little contest in the first round, I'll be posting those scores in a separate thread. But, since we have at least one 2nd-round series(and probably more) starting this weekend, please use this thread to post your predictions.

Playoff Round 1, Game 4 Preview: San Antonio Spurs at Utah Jazz

San Antonio Spurs @ Utah Jazz
Game 4, EnergySolutions ArenaMay 7th, 2012 - 7:00 p.m. Spurs Time
TV: TNT / FSSW - RADIO: WOAI 1200 AM
Well here we are, pounders. Do you recall all the naysayers at the end of the regular season saying "Remember what happened when the Spurs were the top seed last year?". Yeah, neither do I. And those people sure shut up in a hurry - I wonder what happened to make them change their mind? Oh wait, that's right, the Spurs have thoroughly dominated this series, and look like every bit the juggernaut we know them to be. Every game has been a double digit win, including when they took Utah's best punch two nights ago and still put them away in the second half.

Bill Simmons Is A Bitter, Bitter Man
Bitter that the Celtics didn't get Duncan, I suppose.
Saturday 4/28/12 PLAYOFF Loser Thread
So, after that manic regular season that saw our Spurs finish on a wildly successful run, it should come as no surprise that a franchise in the middle of an identity and venue shift has chosen to co-opt the Spurs' color scheme. They'll never admit to it, but come on... black, white and silver? It couldn't be more obvious who they've chosen to emulate. And what a lovely color scheme it is.

Anyway, the Spurs aren't playing until tomorrow, but the playoffs start today, so let's talk about today's action. Game times below the fold.
Ryan Richards signs with new team in Georgia
That would be the nation of Georgia, not the state.
Rising Great Britain star Ryan Richards has signed with Georgian side Sokhumi Tbilisi for the remainder of the season.
Looks like he's just playing for them in the playoffs, which is a bit strange. But at least he's playing somewhere.

PtR Playoff Prediction Contest: 2012 First Round
Those of you who have been around PtR during the playoffs before will probably recognize this, but some of you may not. Every year, we have a just-for-fun contest to see who can do the best job of predicting the result of each playoff series.
So, let's get started.

This is a great breakdown of how the Spurs do when any two players share the court, and how that compare's to the team's overall average with that player.

All-Euroleague Nominees Revealed (Includes Lorbek)
Not all that surprising, since we already knew he's one of the best big men in Europe. However, with Kirilenko dominating the league from the PF position this season, Lorbek is probably not making the first team.
ST: Lorbek To Play For Spurs Next Season?

Obviously, this isn't set in stone, but Lorbek is definitely the best player the Spurs have rights to that is not currently with the team. I would love it if they could bring him on board.

So, by now, everyone here has probably noticed that I haven't written anything for PtR in several months. And by everyone, I mean that nobody actually noticed, since everyone else on the staff here has done such a fine job of making this site the best it can be. Still, I feel the need to contribute something, and with the various European playoffs soon ending, this could be the last chance to catch everybody up on what's been happening across the pond.
The Spurs are currently in the midst of a remarkable run, and as of this writing they are tied for the least number of losses in the Western Conference. But some of the contributors to this season's squad will not be around for the next season, and that means the Spurs will have to replace them. With that in mind, the most likely place for those replacements to come from is Europe(see: Gary Neal; Tiago Splitter).
There are currently three former Spurs and two possible future Spurs fighting for the Euroleague and Eurocup championships, respectively, and there's decent cases to be made for each of their teams. We've also tracked down some other players whose names you may or may not recognize, and added them to our stalking tracking list.

Boris Diaw asks for buyout
So this is normally not something to talk about, but the whispers going around the interwebs(especially among the French contingent at SpursTalk) are saying that Diaw will end up with the Spurs. It makes sense for both parties, and Tony Parker can probably persuade him to join the team.
