PFF Refocused Broncos vs Raiders
When trying to locate the cause of Denver’s poor effort, look no farther than the defensive front seven. The biggest culprit up front was Ryan McBean (-3.7), who opened the season as Denver’s starting DRE but lost his job to Kevin Vickerson. Inexplicably, McBean played almost the entire second half and heavily in the first — much to the pleasure of Oakland RBs.
To give up 59 points, though, you must have failure at multiple levels of the defense. LB Mario Haggan "did his part" with his worst ever PFF-grade (-4.8) after grading negatively in all three major defensive ratings (run defense, pass rush, pass coverage.) Haggan gave up a 19-yard strike to FB Marcel Reece in two targets, but was far worse in defending the run. Usually quick off the snap and frequently in opposing backfields, Haggan found himself tied up by Raider blockers early and often and was usually unable to disengage to make a play. He especially struggled with Oakland’s interior offensive lineman.
If there is any silver lining at all in Denver’s loss, perhaps it is the solid performance handed in by rookie RT Zane Beadles (+1.4). Often discussed here for his negative performances, Beadles was the only lineman for Denver not to allow a sack. While certainly not having a great game, or even convincingly above-average, Beadles did look a lot more comfortable out there.

NFL Week 1 - Denver Broncos Depth Chart
The Broncos website has released the new depth chart for the start of the season. Read below the break for some of the surprises!
Broncos claim offensive tackle Christopher Clark and cut Baraka Atkins.
from Gary Miller
The Broncos have called off the practice scheduled for 1:15 p.m. MDT.
Monday was already scheduled to be an off day, so the Broncos won’t take the field again until Tuesday at 2:30 p.m. MDT. That session at Dove Valley will be open to the public
Cowboys Draft Board
This is pretty cool to actually be able to see -- they have translated some of it lower in the comments if you can't read the text very clearly.
Peter King on data from Football Outsiders
Here's the top 10 running backs in tackles broken in 2009:
1. Chris Johnson, Tennessee, 61
2. Ray Rice, Baltimore, 57
3. Adrian Peterson, Minnesota, 56.
4. Maurice Jones-Drew, Jacksonville, 52
5. Steven Jackson, St. Louis, 50
6. Jonathan Stewart, Carolina, 46
7. DeAngelo Williams, Carolina, 40
7. Rashard Mendenhall, Pittsburgh, 40
9. Fred Jackson, Buffalo, 35
10. Knowshon Moreno, Denver, 33
A broken tackle, as defined by Football Outsiders, is either a play in which the defender has the ballcarrier wrapped up -- or a play in which the ballcarrier fakes a defender out of his jock. Subjective, but you get the point. It's a good measure of hard runners and elusive runners, at the same time.

Rookie Training Camp via NFP
This article is from an agent explaining some of what rookies should do and not do at camp this weekend.
Broncos List CFA's
Broncos press release about the 19 CFAs brought on board
Remaining Rounds with who we worked out
I wanted to provide a little more up to date information for those of us really interested in the remaining rounds. So far we have had two picks [like them or not] and both of the players we worked out privately. With this trend in mind, I wanted to provide the updated list [stolen from Sayre's original] based upon who is still on the board. This isn't comprehensive since I think we had a couple workouts this past weekend. On to the list!

Broncos 2010 NFL Draft Release
The PDF is from the Broncos for the media for release. Lots of information about the draft, our picks, our pick history in the document. If you don't want to use the link above, you can get it from the Denver Broncos website at: http://www.denverbroncos.com
Speaking of the Jets, they are actively shopping guard Alan Faneca, defensive end Shaun Ellis and linebacker Bryan Thomas and will probably waive these players after the draft. You might be surprised to read Faneca’s name, but he’s the first to go after the draft.
Lombardi says Faneca could go -- it seems he would fit the power game so I wonder if we would be interested. Alan Faneca is a older [33] but the Jets run game last year seemed pretty potent.
Word in Denver is that there were cheers in the locker room when word of the trade came down last week. The Broncos even chose to have team captain Daniel Graham make an official statement about Marshall’s departure rather than the owner, coach or general manager. That was as telling as any announcement of a trade I’ve seen.
Graham and McDaniels talk
"I know looking from the outside it's hard to understand what's going on, especially when you lose players the caliber we've lost in the past couple of years, but it is the ultimate team sport," Graham said. "Not one player is going to win the Super Bowl for us."
Orton OTA Talk
Orton's talk is in the list -- I really like everything he says. Just seems like a super class act and I hope he can improve even more on last year.
Pouncey coming
Pouncey visiting several teams, including us
McDaniels and Brady didn't talk for weeks upon meeting
I don't plan on creating a Denver Post acct to view the article, but it doesn't seem too flattering.
In an extensive article on McDaniels, the Denver Post reports that the former New England Patriots offensive coordinator and star quarterback Tom Brady didn't exchange a word of conversation for three weeks during his first year coaching the Pro Bowl passer.
Schefter says that Boldin deal is almost reached, Ravens / Chiefs possible suitors
McDaniels wants to keep Marshall
Good read -- has a link to the video interview in the corner
Javon Walker called to testify in Darrent Williams murder trial
The Trial is back on track to start next month
McKinley and Hochstein on IR
McD just made a public comment stating that both players will be put on IR today. He made no mention of their replacements or any PS promotions. I don't have a link since it is on the live press conference right now.
Any guesses ... do we use Olsen? Hamilton starting is probably a given at this point. I don't know what the league will do with Stokely, hopefully just a fine.
Good luck to the Broncos against the Chiefs and to the teams we need to win to help us in -- I want this team in the playoffs even if some people sound like they don't.
Why is the depth chart on db.com no longer being updated? It used to be updated every week but they haven't updated it in two weeks now..?
Since signing veteran P Mitch Berger on Oct. 26, the Broncos’ net punting average has shown the fourth-most improvement (+3.3 yds. / 34.5 to 37.8) in the NFL.
Draft Picks, where are we now?
This is for the people who like the draft mostly, but also to take some of the comments from other posts I have seen and provide an area for more detailed conversation about the players. In the 09 draft we managed to pick up quite a few new players and there has been some concern over pretty much all of them whether it is where we took them, what we gave up, or who the person is that we chose. More below!
MSM vs Blogs on Belicheck
Really fun read -- surprised no one here got quoted =)
Are we doing a weekly thing with the Redskins blogger? I didn't see any MHR people over there and didn't see a post here for this week from them, was just curious?
Game Tape Evaluation?
We all know that Ernie Adam is considered one of the best people at evaluating game film. With his built in photographic memory and love of the game, he has been a Belichick secret weapon for a long time now, being friends since their childhood and then going their own ways to join together again in New England. My questions follow...

New Lineup
We won't have to listen to Sandy Clough on our drive home anymore, he has been moved to 7pm!
Week 3 in Review
Back by popular demand! Ok so no one demanded it or even reads this but it is fun so I will do it anyway.
For those of you new to the section, I will take some random stabs at the action in some of the games for the week. I will then come back after the week to assess how poorly I did.
My action outcomes below the jump!
Week In Review, In Review
So last week I had a post titled Week in Review in an effort to post some of my guesses as to what would happen during the week. I promised I would come back and review all of my guesses to see how accurate they were. Below the jump are the results, I know you are holding your breath!
