I'm a paralyzed Veteran. I spent 5yrs in the Army in an Airborne Combat Engineer Battalion stationed at Ft Bragg, NC. I fought in Iraq, the Honduran/Nicaraguan Conflict, and I also took part in the Panama Invasion. I fought for my country and I know that Freedom isn't free and I'll never take this country or Freedom for granted. I was paralyzed in a drunk driving accident after I returned home from Iraq. Since that time I have filmed a documentary, "Forever Changed; A True Story That May Save Your Life". Also, I travel around the United States speaking in schools and military bases about the consequences of alcohol abuse, drunk driving, and drug abuse. I also do community presentations, presentations at work sites, churches, and anyplace that wants to hire me to speak, from experience, about these, possibly deadly, topics.
On a more personal note, I still ride my Harley. I put a sidecar on an Electraglide and I put my wheelchair in the sidecar. I rigged a hand shifter from my shift linkage and up next to my tank so it now has a 'suicide shift.' I'm SOOOO VERY grateful that I'm still able to ride. If I would have lost that ability after my accident, I wouldn't have been able to deal with that as well as I've dealt with other aspects of this situation. I've been riding motorcycles and riding motocross since I was 4yrs old. I bought my first Harley when I was 20yrs old and I've had 5 since that first one. I also spend a lot of time deer hunting and I made my first turkey hunt this past spring. I shot a BEARDED HEN, which, from what I've been told, is EXTREMELY rare. It's almost as rare as an antlered doe. This year I was really trying to get a nice, mountable buck. I had one, a huge 10 point, coming in and the 'guide' sitting in my blind with me decided that he was going to bring his phone out with him. I had been calling that 10 point in and I first saw him when he was on the other side of the creek. He was a basket rack buck with a huge body and he was coming across the creek. He crossed a creek and was down below the bank and all I could see was his antlers. He started to come up the bank and suddenly, from INSIDE MY BLIND, I hear music. My 'wonderful guide' decided that he was going to bring his phone out to my blind and NOT turn off the ringer. Well, I guess that buck didn't care for the ring tone because when I turned back around he was going back across the creek. He would have come up in front of a tree that I had already shot with my range finder. He was coming up a trail that crossed in front of that tree, 25 yards in front of me. Well, to make a long story short, I didn't want to make the 'guide' feel bad so rather than go off on him, I said, "if you had that deer's phone number, why didn't you just tell me?" He'd done A LOT more than just that, enough to show me he literally had some mental issues.
This is the short version of my life. I enjoy the outdoors as well as spending time with my family and friends.
