WBS Penguins take on Hershey

+

The Penguins and Capitals minor league affiliates battle it out tonight in Wilkes-Barre. Full preview and in-game updates on Twitter tonight @H_P_Hockey. I haven't posted here in awhile, but am hoping to have an interview with a popular WBS player for everyone as soon as the calendar hits December. Stay tuned and Go Penguins!

Worcester Sharks (AHL) Knock off Penguins 3-1

+

A tired group of WBS Penguins fell behind 2-0 to the Worcester Sharks only 7:10 into the game and weren't able to recover and drop a 3-1 game this evening.

AHL Sharks Take on AHL Penguins

Full in-game coverage on Twitter @H_P_Hockey as I will be watching on the AHL Live. You can listen to tonight's game here and carry on game conversation in the comments. Recap of the game shortly after the conclusion of tonight's game.

Kings' AHL Affiliate Takes on the Penguins

+

Last night the Penguins lost 3-2 up in Portland in a shootout. The Monarchs beat Worcester in overtime, and at home last night. The Penguins play in Worcester on Sunday. Full in-game coverage on Twitter @H_P_Hockey as I will be watching on the AHL Live.

Pirates Hand AHL Penguins First Road Loss

+

The Pirates beat the Penguins 3-2 in a shootout, despite being out shot 37-23 and for the most part chasing the play. But a win is a win and Portland certainly will take the two points. Colin McDonald was the lone scorer in the shootout for the Penguins, Ryan Duncan and Brett MacLean lit the lamp for the Pirates. The loss ends the Penguins perfect road record, which is now at 8-0-0-1.

The Weekend Starts in Portland

+

Expect Scott Munroe (Penguins) and Curtis McElhinney (Pirates) to start in net tonight for their respective teams. For the Penguins, the lineup gets a boost with the return of Eric Tangradi from the NHL Penguins. Tangradi was a point per game player in October, notching five goals and four assists in nine games. For the Pirates, rookie center Andy Miele leads the team in all offensive categories, with five goals and eight assists in nine games. Former WBS Penguins Marc Antoine Pouliot is now on the Portland Pirates and has seven points (3G, 4A) through his first nine games. Full in-game coverage on Twitter @H_P_Hockey as I will be watching on the AHL Live.

Penguins Travel to Binghamton Tonight

+

After an impressive 4-0 shutout win over the Hershey Bears, the WBS Penguins look for a 6-0 road start when they play the Binghamton Senators tonight in the southern tier of New York. The Senators are coming off a 3-2 home loss to the Rochester Americans last night, so they will be looking to bounce back in the win column tonight.

Wednesday's WBS [AHL] Penguins UPDATE: Knocking Off the Rust

+

At the Coal Street Rink today, the WBS Penguins held a two hour practice from 10 a.m. to noon. It appears no call-ups are coming from Wilkes-Barre to Pittsburgh as everyone was in attendance and nobody left early. If a call up is to be made, expect it to be Alexandre Picard. Either way, Letang can play in Pittsburgh's next game so the call up would be able to meet the WBS Penguins in Springfield on Friday.

AHL Senators Complete Comeback, Win 5-4 in OT

+

Mark Parrish tied the game at three in the third period and won the game for the Senators in overtime. He recorded a four point night (2G-2A).

Home Woes Continue, WBS Pens Fall 5-4 in OT

+

After five games, a 1-2-1-1 start is anything but expected for the talent on this roster. But not holding onto leads of 2-0 and 3-1 (in the 3rd period) will kill you every time. The Penguins still haven't won a home game (0-2-1-1) with their only win of the season coming this past Thursday night in Rochester.

Opening Night: Hershey Bears Part 1

+

The time for another season of Wilkes-Barre Scranton Penguins hockey has come. The Penguins begin a new journey in the organization's 13th year, coming off of a record setting regular season a year ago. Sure, bowing out in the second round of the playoffs didn't resonate well with those whose have close ties. But today the Penguins clean off the slate and start all over. The Penguins begin their 13th season tonight at 7:05 p.m. when they host intrastate rival Hershey in the first of 12 scheduled meetings.

Pittsburgh Trims Active Roster to 23

Pittsburgh announced moments ago the last round of cuts before their season starts Thursday night in Vancouver.

Phantoms Start Preseason With 3-1 Win

1

Three power play goals from Garret Klotz, Eric Wellwood and Shane Harper. Goaltender Jason Bacashihua lost his shutout bid with 2.7 seconds remaining in the game. The game was played in a high school rink in Saratoga Springs, NY.

WBS Penguins Drop 1st Preseason Game

+

In a game that wasn't on the radio or streamed online, the updates were few and far between. The Penguins lineup featured eight guys on a tryout. Notable guys like Keven Veilleux, Zach Sill, Geoff Walker, Bryan Lerg, Joey Mormina and Carl Sneep were given the night off. Chad Langlais was also scratched.

Black & Gold Game II

The Penguins will be playing hockey tonight in Wilkes-Barre.

What to Look For Thursday: the 2011-12 AHL Schedule

+

The AHL announced it will release the regular season schedule for all 30 teams Thursday at 4 p.m. assuming the Board of Governors approves the schedules. Here's a few things Penguins fans should look for when they breeze through the WBS Penguins 2011-12 schedule.

WBS Penguins Announce Preseason Home Dates

+

The WBS Penguins will play four games in the preseason and the team announced their two home games versus the Hershey Bears and Adirondack Phantoms. Still two road games to be announced, but I will have the info on that as soon as it gets released. Not much happening in Penguins Nation lately.

WBS Penguins Sign Two to AHL Deals

+

The Penguins signed forward Brandon DeFazio, who played two games back in April with the Pens, and former AUS MVP defenseman Andrew Hotham to AHL contracts today. Just like Pittsburgh is building depth in preparation for 2011-12, the WBS Penguins are doing the same. Looks like both guys will start the season with the ECHL's Wheeling Nailers.

Are the Columbus Blue Jackets a Playoff Team in 2011-12?

1

Since finishing the regular season 7th in the Western Conference in2008-09, the Blue Jackets haven’t had much success at all, finishing 14th and 13th in the West the past two seasons respectively. Will Blue Jackets fans see much of the same in 2011-12 though? The Blue Jackets were relatively busy this offseason and made several changes to their lineup from last season, but whether or not these changes will make the Blue Jackets a playoff team remains to be seen.

Former Penguin Tim Wallace Signs with Islanders

9

After 304 games with the AHL Penguins, it's time to move on for Tim Wallace.

WBS Penguins Additions/Subtractions For 2011-12

15

A look at the AHL Penguins team heading into 2011-12. They lost some key players, but did they replace them with suitable replacements?

PensBurgh Users on Google+

I thought this might be a good idea for those who are now on Google+ to all get together so we could have everyone together in one place. I know that I have added a few PensBurgh users but I'm sure...

Penguins Sign Denver Manderson to Two-Way Deal

4

Looks like the Penguins have signed a former teammate of Penguins 2010 first round pick Beau Bennett. The kid tore up the BCHL in 2009-10 with 113 points in 50 games.

WBS Penguins Release Guaranteed Dates

+

We don't know who they play until the AHL announces the schedules in August, but we do know the WBS Penguins will play on five guaranteed dates the team released this afternoon, the first of which is Saturday, October 8th. Could be the season opener since the AHL announced the season will start on Oct. 7th. Check out the other guaranteed dates!

WBS Penguins Sign Goaltender Scott Munroe

1

The WBS Penguins finally get their backup goaltender today as the team announces the signing of Scott Munroe, a guy who played in the KHL last season and has 4 full years of AHL experience.

WBS Penguins Re-sign Ryan Schnell

1

The Penguins seem to be adding a lot of toughness the past few days, signing MacIntyre and now bringing back Ryan Schnell for 2011-12.

WBS Penguins Re-sign Joey Mormina

+

Announced yesterday, the WBS Penguins added another defenseman in Mormina to help give the blue line some more experience. He's a giant too at 6-6, so him and Boris Valabik (6-7) should clog up the shooting lanes in the defensive zone in 2011-12.

Penguins Re-Sign Brad Thiessen

2

Glad to have Thiessen back in Wilkes-Barre, even if it's only for one more year. I will be posting a story on the additions/subtractions of the Penguins soon! UPDATE: Thiessen's agent Ian Pulver actually contacted me to inform me of the signing. I was able to carry on a little conversation with him about the one year deal.

Penguins Sign Picard to Two-Way Deal

49

Well, this signing is very interesting. It's a two-way deal for a guy who hasn't played in the AHL since the 2007-08 season. Could there be a trade on the horizon for the Penguins blue line?
