I did a double-take when I saw this pop up on Poynter.org's twitter feed. No actual Indians stuff in the article, but I figured it would be of interest here.
Pomeranz, Kipnis to play in Futures Game
For some reason Kipnis isn't mentioned in the sidebar but he is listed on the US roster, and Bastian just tweeted that he's playing as well.
Castrovince: Russell Branyan traded to Mariners
The Indians pulled the trigger on the first of what could be several pre-Trade Deadline moves Saturday, sending Branyan back to the M's in exchange for two prospects -- Triple-A center fielder Ezequiel Carrera and High-A shortstop Juan Diaz.
Castrovince also adds that Matt LaPorta is expected to be in Cincinnati in time for tomorrow's game. (Ryan)
The official release can be found here.
Marte to the DL; Crowe up
Indians placed INF ANDY MARTE on the 15-day disabled list with a non-baseball medical issue. OF TREVOR CROWE recalled from AAA Columbus.
[UPDATE]: Hoynsie (via Twitter) says that the non-baseball injury is (I kid you not) "an infected ingrown hair on his stomach." (Ryan)

Stark: Dodgers dealing for Blake
The Indians and Dodgers are closing in on a trade that would send third baseman/outfielder Casey Blake and cash to the Dodgers for two minor leaguers.
The two teams were in the process of tying up loose ends to the deal early Saturday. Indications are that they will complete the trade before the end of the day.
The Indians are believed to be receiving minor-league catcher Carlos Santana and right-handed pitcher Jon Meloan. Santana is currently hitting .323, with 14 homers, for Inland Empire, in the Class A California League. The hard-throwing Meloan is 5-10, with a 4.97 ERA, at Triple-A Las Vegas, but has piled up 335 strikeouts in only 262 innings in his minor-league career.

Haren to Arizona
http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/c/a/2007/12/14/SPQTTUU9P.DTL
"(12-14) 14:49 PST -- The A's have completed a trade to send Dan Haren to the Diamondbacks along with pitcher Connor Robertson, The Chronicle has learned.
In exchange, Oakland will receive a total of six prospects, including outfielder Carlos Gonzalez and left-handers Brett Anderson and Greg Smith. Arizona's first-round pick in 2006, pitcher Max Scherzer, is not a part of the deal."
Twins close to landing Delmon Young
Sounds like this is pretty close to being official.
http://www.startribune.com/blogs/neal/?p=276
The key parts:
"The Twins and Tampa Bay Rays are close to finalizing a multi-player deal, according to several sources with knowledge of the discussions. The deal could be announced as soon as today.
The main pieces changning teams would be outfielder Delmon Young, the first overall pick in 2003, and righthander Matt Garza. But indications were strong on Wednesday that as many as six players could be involved.
In addition to Garza, the Twins would send Tampa Bay shortstop Jason Bartlett and reliever Juan Rincon for Young, shortstop Brendan Harris and outfielder Jason Pridie."
Discuss.
Francisco up, Carmona to Buffalo
I am a little suprised that Francisco got the call instead of Gutierrez. Perhaps the club just wants Franklin to continue getting regular at-bats? And this will give Francisco a taste of the big-leagues before Cliff Lee is activated. In any event, nice to have another right-handed outfielder on the roster for the time being.
The Cleveland Indians today announced that they have recalled outfielder Ben Francisco from the Buffalo Bisons. To make room on their roster, pitcher Fausto Carmona has been optioned to the Herd.
Francisco, 25, will be making his first career appearance at the Major League level. The outfielder spent all of April with the Bisons and hit .299 (20-67) with a six doubles, a home run, nine RBI and seven stolen bases (no caught stealings). He led the team in doubles, stolen bases and runs scored (14) and was second in walks (11) and on-base percentage (.397)."
