Bears cut OL Pace
Cue the 'Pace to Colts' speculation...
"Storm bout to hit miami on sunday! Lol"
This was from Raheem's Twitter. Couldn't post the picture itself.
Young making good on his promise to McNair family
I'm starting to gain some respect for him. Maybe he really has turned a corner.
Fail. Saw this on a Fox article this morning.
ESPN Suspends Bill Simmons From Twitter
It would be interesting to hear everyone's take on this. Personally, I think he didn't do anything wrong since he gave his opinion on Twitter, not in a column on ESPN.
49ers Release Rossum
What do you guys think about the Colts signing him? It seems he had a good 2008 but he is 33.
Thursday Pick 'Em
If I remember correctly, we were able to submit picks for mid-week games in a FanPost or in the comments section of the post containing the link to the Google document. And then fill out the Google doc sometime before the 1pm games on Sunday. So here is my pick for tonight's game. The Pick 'Em doc for this week shows Pittsburgh favored by 5.
I pick Pittsburgh for both Straight Up and ATS.
Stampede Blue 2nd Round Mock
Hello Jets fans. TouchdownMonkey here again with an update on the Stampede Blue Mock draft. Just to recap, I took Brian Cushing (LB) out of USC at 17. For the second round pick, which occurred a few minutes ago, I picked Darrius Heyward-Bey, WR out of Maryland. We won't be doing a third round, but my pick probably would have been Pat White out of West Virginia.
I'm excited for the draft to start tomorrow. Good luck this year...
Jokers
Well, well, well. It looks like our buddies BBS and MaPatsFan are at it again. Always good for a laugh.
Here's some non-football stuff floating around...

A Little Help?
Hello Jets fans. Hope you're able to pass the days until Kickoff Weekend. I'm writing to ask for your help in regards to your beloved Jets. I'm a member of Stampede Blue (Colts), and I've been chosen to pick for the Jets in our mock draft. I've been doing my research, but I thought I would ask what you guys think. What do you think are your most pressing needs? Who (or what position) should be drafted with the first round pick? How will the defensive changes affect draft strategy? Thanks for any insight you can give. It is much appreciated.
Jags Cut WR Jones
It's been long overdue. Jacksonville released Matt Jones. It looks like they're actually trying to assemble a respectable team. I guess WR becomes a top draft priority for them. There'll be one less WR by the time we pick. How do you think this will affect our draft? Wonder how Jags fans are reacting to this. Any bets on who signs him? I'm going with either the Cowboys or Raiders. They're dysfunctional enough to take the chance.
Browns to Name Mangini HC
It looks like the Browns are going to hire Mangini as their coach.
Looking Ahead to 2009
OK, I don't mean to look ahead when we've got a first round playoff game coming up, but the NFL released the matchups for 2009. We play the AFC East and NFC West, plus Denver and Baltimore (and our division). Here's what it looks like:
Home: NE, NYJ, Denver, SF, Seattle, divisional games
Away: Miami, Buffalo, Arizona, St. Louis, Baltimore, divisional games
I would say it's a so-so schedule. I wouldn't call it hard, but it's by no means easy either. A lot will depend on timing; I'd hate to play in Buffalo at the end of the season with snow and wind.
Football Night In America
I'm done dwelling on (read: moping about) last night's game. Looking ahead to Sunday. I'm expecting a good game out of both teams. There looks to be some intriguing matchups. I'm hoping Peyton gets out of his funk and starts connecting with his receivers. Cassel (sp?) seems to be getting more confident with every game. I'm hoping we can distruput him enough to get some sacks or errant throws. You guys ready?
From Whitlock's "Truths" Column
Looks like the media is ready to back the Colts again...
4. What would the reaction around the league be if Peyton Manning played for Bill Belichick and never acknowledged a second offseason surgery on his knee?
When Belichick is secretive about injuries we see it as an example of his deviousness and attempt to skirt NFL injury rules. When it happens on a Father Tony Dungy-coached team it's really no big deal.
Keep in mind, I'm a big fan of Father Tony. But I'm also a big fan of Belichick's. The two coaches aren't that different. They do what's in the best interest of their team and players. Dungy is a bit more pleasant about it. Belichick is a bit more effective.
3. I'm back on the Colts bandwagon. They're the best team in football.
Bottom line: Peyton Manning and Marvin Harrison are back. The Colts will get leads and that will unleash Dwight Freeney and Robert Mathis to rush the passer.
The Colts Are 2-2, NOT Could-Be 0-4.
Over the course of the morning, I've made my way around the muck that is considered journalism these days. I don't expect every word out of every journalist's mouth to be positive about the Colts, but I would think there would be some objectivity. I have read more about Houston's crushing defeat than about Indy's amazing comeback. There are more "could be 0-4" rants than "could be 3-1" blurbs. I'm trying to maintain objectivity rather than blatant homerism and I'm still coming up with more positive vibes from this start than the naysayers.
In the Minnesota game our run defense got gouged, but kept the bend-don't-break characteristic that allowed us to come back and win it. They held strong and forced the Vikings into FGs rather than TDs. So there shouldn't be "luck" associated with that comback win. As long as Peyton is under center, you cannot be content with FGs.
The Jacksonville game was rough, but we were still able to hang with them and Peyton was able to lead them to the TD in the final minute. We again got gouged on the ground, but we were still in a position to win.
We capitalize on Houston's mistakes and yet we're still the lucky ones? Correct me if I'm wrong, but isnt that what good teams are supposed to do. Good defenses come up with big plays and turnovers when they need to, good offenses convert an opponent's TOs into points. Rosenfell's boneheaded mistake was not sliding when he had the chance. Perhaps that was a "gift", but the sack, strip, and recovery on the ensuing possession was more a matter of good defense rather than "luck." That was the Colts defense we are accustomed to. The offense then had great field position, plenty of timeouts and needing a FG to tie. Was there any doubt this team wouldn't get the TD?
I guess what I'm trying to say is that it irks me that we have been written off as the "should/could be 0-4 Colts" and I'm going to hate it when these same idiots start praising us at the end of the season when we have once again established ourselves as one of the elite teams in the NFL.

Hello Patriots fans. I'm a Colts fan and frequent Stampede Blue. Since the season officially kicks off tonight, I figured I'd give a peace offering. I'm looking forward to an exciting season, as I'm sure most of you are too. We both have teams that should compete at high levels and will be in the Super Bowl hunt. I want to dispel any bad blood and have a friendly rivalry. I'm sure we'll take jabs at each other and do a little trash talking, but it will all be in good fun; nothing too serious and nothing over the line. Good luck to you and hope to see you in the AFCCG (against us, of course). Here's to the new season...
Coe Out For Season
The AP is reporting that the Colts will place DB Michael Coe on IR. The news blurb said that the Colts were expecting him to miss around 8 weeks but needed the roster spot so the IR decision was made.
We claimed LB Marcus Richardson off of waivers (from Houston) this evening. He's a 6'3", 225-pound undrafted rookie out of Troy State.
Haven't had a chance to analyze any of this, but I think we'll still be fine. We have good depth at the DB position and the starting LBers will come back soon (hopefully).
Relive the Memories
NFL.com is offering FieldPass for free for a limited time (offseason, I think). You can listen to any game from 2004 through the Super Bowl XLII. I spent the morning listening to the AFC Championship game and it got me thinking about other games. What are some of your favorite games?

Prisco's Line Rankings
Just wondering what you guys think of Prisco's line rankings this week. The Colts are ranked #4 for OL, #15 for DL , and #8 overall. I don't think his rankings are accurate (or objective for that matter), but that could be homerism getting in the way. I just don't see the Chargers, Cowboys, and Patriots going 1, 2, 3 overall, nor do I agree with the notion that the Vikings, Giants, Eagles and Seahawks have better overall lines than the Colts. Also, Prisco feels that Mathis is our weakest link on the DL and that he is a liability against the run. This just shows to me that he doesn't know or understand how our rotations work. I figured I'd see what you all think.
