Watching Monday Night football and they flashed a commercial for the Heisman trophy presentation show. The only people mentioned on this particular commercial were Harrell, Bradford, Tebow and McCoy. But, apparently that seems to mean that Harrell is a finalist.

After fast-forwarding through the UT/A&M game last night just to check out the train wreck, I found myself once again managing the struggle between my id and superergo. My id says we should put together the most negative, wide-spread campaign against all things UT football highlighting the appropriate 39-33 headline. My superego tells me to rise above the level of the logic-challenged brain that is the UT fan.
In case you missed it...
As I was fast-forwarding, I saw some dude in a UT t-shirt on the sideline with a headset on. I hit play and it appeared he was a (the?) UT student who either put together the 45-35.com site or put together a Facebook group of the same name. Not sure. Didn't feel like rewinding and having to tolerate the dude any more than I had to. So here is ABC, giving full coverage to this guy in the middle of the game...not a football player, not a coach...just so he could shill the whole 45-35 concept. When the guys in the booth asked him about the fact that Tech beat them he said something along the lines of (paraphrasing) "if they were as intelligent and as politically active as us maybe they could put something together that is as good"...blah, blah, blah. Don't remember the rest.
So not only do they have a completely baseless campaign going that drives my math brain crazy, ABC was nice enough to give them the biggest stage in America on Thursday night to push that agenda.
But, despite all of that, the superego again pushes aside the id as it does for so many of my level-headed brethren that share this site. Let the chips fall as they may.

GO TECH!

For all of the love Corso gave Tech and Tech players while he was in Lubbock, he is back to his usual Tech-hating self. Was just watching the GameDay broadcast from LSU and they were talking about the OSU-Tech game and what would be the difference-maker. Corso said it would be Dez Bryant, because he is better than Michael Crabtree. Fowler stopped him and asked if he really thought Bryant was better than Crabtree and he said yes. Herbstreit just kinda sat there and laughed.
Sports broadcasters seem to be following the mantra of the regular news media these days. It's all about the sensationalism. Throw out the craziest statement, even if you don't really believe it, so people will talk about you. Mission accomplished.
Be original.

The new promo running on ESPN/ABC for the game this weekend is SWEET, especially in HD. It has Crabtree's TD near the beginning but the best part of it comes after they show the cheerleaders. Lo and behold, there is The Mustache, mounted on his trusty black steed with reins in mouth and both hands up in air and guns blazing as he streaks across the field...GREATNESS!

71, 72, 73, 74, SEVENTY-FIVE!

Abrupt Harrell disappearance

Did anyone else watch the College Football Live show from today? In the opening teaser, they said they would talk to Harrell. They started the show with a pretty in-depth look at the game then moved on to some of the other games for the weekend. Initially, I thought it was weird that Harrell would appear on the show, as that seemed quite unLeach-like. Every commercial break they would tease that they would be talking to Harrell. About 10 minutes before the show ended, they flashed up Harrell's stats then said: "And, now, on the phone, we have (don't remember), safety (or corner?) for the University of Texas Longhorns". It was a pretty abrupt transfer from the Harrell graphic to the phone call, so I'm thinking they threw the UT guy in there not just last minute, but last second. I watched the rest of the show to see if Harrell would eventually show, but he didn't. With Leach's approach to media appearances, it didn't surprise me at all that Harrell didn't end up on the show. I just hope some dumb Tech media relations person didn't make some promise to ESPN that he/she knew wouldn't find favor with Leach and have it ultimately overrulled. I can see that generating that much more apathy (perceived or not) on ESPN's part towards Tech if we're breaking promises last-second.

I will now play the part of the over-sensitive Red Raider fan (not for the reals but I thought it would be fun).

I was watching the FAU/Troy game on ESPN tonight (I loves me some Tuesday night NCAA football! I don't care who's playing) and the talk shifted to the Red River Shootout. While discussing the prospects of OU running the table on the season, they flashed up their remaining schedule. On that schedule they had, of course, #5 Texas, #16 Kansas, some unranked ones and then, lastly, #21 Okie State. I did a double-take and confirmed my suspicion. The schedule had Tech listed on it but not the #7 next to our glorious name.

Now let's all be over-sensitive and talk about getting disrespected! Let's pull a screen shot of that schedule and post it in Darcel McBath's locker! : )

Big 12 completion mark (not?)

So I saw that Chase Daniel (allegedly) set the Big 12 record for consecutive pass completions today at 20. I went to the play-by-play for the game on Yahoo (http://rivals.yahoo.com/ncaa/football/boxscore?gid=200809200022&page=plays) to do some research but couldn't find any stretch more than 11 completions before it said he had an incompletion. I wasn't researching to see if he actually completed 20 in a row but, rather, I wanted to see what the yardage was for each one. But now that I found this other tidbit, I wonder if it could be verified with some other source (feeling too lazy to look at some other play-by-play on ESPN or CBS).
But, back to my original reason for looking at the stats. His completions during the ELEVEN straight completions were 4, 5, 13, 8, 4, 6, 13, 10, 15, 9, 11. What I wish was shown was how far the pass was and how far the run after catch was. Either way, the yardage on these completions don't exactly blow anyone away, which leads me to my main point. The national media will be absolutely FAWNING over Daniel and this record because he is such an AWESOME quarterback. Now, is it just me or, if any number of Tech quarterbacks would have completed this same feat, it would be QUICKLY and THOROUGHLY dismissed as a product of the dink-and-dunk offense and the "system quarterback"?
Excuse me for all of the yelling. I just hate the derogatory "system" label for our quarterbacks when others are hailed for doing the exact same thing.
