They might want to address the pitching first. Was hoping Werth would go to the AL.

Damn, was hoping we would make this move. It's only a 1-year deal too.

Talking Chop The Phillies "Big 3"

Yeah, so I am drunk again. And the standard disclaimer stands: Feel free to delete this post if too retarded.

I would so like to cram it up the a** of the Big 3 who have aligned against us; they have been awesome for about a month (Halladay excepted). They will come back to Earth very soon. The Braves always play to their level of competition, I feel better vs Hamels than vs Livan. This could be an asset in the postseason.

Worst comes to worst: Look at our farm system and take comfort.

This week in Joe Chat

Derek (Alabama)

what kind of chance do you think the braves have at the world series
Joe Morgan
(11:18 AM)

The key is to get into the playoffs. If you can do that, anyone can win. All you have to do is get hot for a couple of weeks. You see teams doing that all the time. Anybody that gets into the playoffs can win the championship. It's a short season from that point on.

Could I be better than Pujols...

... at pitching? He's only played corner infielder throughout his career, and is not noted for having a "cannon" at first (not that anyone is). In summation, I just want to say I'm better than Pujols at something in baseball.

Talking Chop WTF happened to the Braves on 30 in 30?

It cut out after ten minutes and now someone is interviewing David Wright.

Mods: delete this if you want, I've just been waiting for this show all week and it pisses me off.

Has anyone here ever stood in the box against Major League pitching? Didn't want to make a whole FanPost, just curious. I maintain that I would be able to at least foul-tip the ball but nobody else agrees with me. I was average in High School.

MRI came back clean on JAIR JURRJENS this morning, and Braves think he'll be back throwing real soon. Big sigh of relief in Braves Nation.

Insert picture of tiny bat here. I'd rather have Mike Jones.

Is this a joke? I mean, seriously, they want to get into a bidding war against the Yankees and lose draft picks to boot?

Talking Chop OF Brian Barton acquired for Boyer

Hat tip to MLBTR. No fanposts for this yet? I googled him and couldn't find much. Would appreciate any info.

Here's the best article I was able to find, he seems like a very disciplined hitter with a high OBP and some power.

Talking Chop WBC

Anyone looked at the final US roster? The line-up is solid, although the OF is a little short on power. The SP is what concerns me. After Oswalt and Peavy, you have Ted Lilly and Jeremy Guthrie. Where are Halladay, Webb, etc? I'd love to see Lincecum face off against Yu Darvish. This reeks of the last WBC where Willis and Leiter got pounded. Hopefully the ridiculous amount of closers will make up for the back of the rotation. US opens against a pretty decent Canada team on 3/7 at 2:00ET on ESPN.

Talking Chop Ben Sheets health concerns allayed?

http://www.fannation.com/si_blogs/hot_stove/posts/43741

I don't think we'll do it, but FW should sign him now, for cheap. He is a low-risk, high-reward pitcher that can be had for pennies on the dollar. If were gambling on Andruw, we can take a shot on Sheets. This would have the additional bonus of denying the Mets/Phils his services. I guess he could bump Campillo, who may have some trade value now. We're actually pretty stacked in near-mlb-quality pitchers.

Here it comes *gets out the vaseline*

Lowe
Vazquez
Sheets
Jurrjens
Kawakami

Talking Chop Chipper trade options

I'd love to move him for another young pitcher to bring up alongside Hanson. So who needs a 3B or DH right now? Who has the young pitching?

The Angels lost their big bat in Teixeira, and they have a bevy of young pitching. Chipper and Guerrero would be a nice 1-2.

The Yankees have Matsui DH-ing, Chipper would be a major upgrade. Can you imagine that lineup with Chipper-ARod-Tex? Maybe we could pry Hughes away.

The Tigers could use Chip over Inge at 3rd or Sheff at DH. I don't know much about their minor league system.

The Red Sox could use Chip at 3rd and move Youk back to 1st and deal Lowell. I still like Buchhloz a lot.

Oakland could be a destination. Even though they signed Giambi, Chip would be a major upgrade over Chavez at 3rd. And Beane has a hard-on for OBP.

Talking Chop Does Maddux deserve to be in the HOF?

Now that I have your attention, let's talk Johnson. Randy Johnson.

Remember in the postseason when he pitched relief for Seattle a day after he started and struck out like six in a row? Remember when he killed that bird in spring training? He was 20-4 with a 2.28 ERA one year, and I have every reason to expect he will repeat--or exceed--that performance in '09. And he is a sex symbol for all the ladies. Get it done, Wren.

Talking Chop Eric O'Flaherty

The first big move of the offseason:

"According to Larry LaRue of The Tacoma News Tribune, the Braves claimed southpaw reliever Eric O'Flaherty off waivers from the Mariners today. O'Flaherty, 24 in February, was terrible in seven appearances with the Ms this year and struggled with walks and hits allowed in Triple A. In 2007, though, he held lefties to a .183/.278/.204 line.

I sure hope we use him as a LOOGY, and this isn't an Ohman replacement. Here are his numbers (if the formatting holds). Not pretty, I sepecially don't like the walks.

From scout.com:

"O’Flaherty has a fastball in the mid-90s, a tough slider and is developing a change.
