2011 Fall Camp
With the 4th of July weekend upon us, that means the start of Colorado Buffaloes fall football camp is roughly 30 days away. Two new era's are about to begin. The inaugural season of the Buffaloes in the newly formed PAC 12, and also the football program being lead by former Buffalo player and assistant coach, John Embree.
The new coaching change has brought hope to many Buff fans have suffered through the previous 5 years of the Dan Hawkins lead team. Has Mike Bohn and the administration made the right hire to put this program on solid footing to once again have a football team that fans and alumni can want to watch and support plus be proud of? Only time will tell.
What should the fans expectations be from this first year, in wins and losses?
What will it take to get the top recruits to start wanting to seriously start committing to play at Colorado?
Which do you think is more important, incoming talent, talent evaluation or player development?
From the incoming freshman class, who is going to have the most impact by the end of the year?
Which freshman is going to be a sleeper and burst onto the scene and get significant playing time?
I believe the goal fro this first year should be nothing less than .500. It might be a tall task with the implementation of new offensive and defensive schemes and coaches, but I don't believe this team is on the bottom of the talent pool in the PAC 12. Hopefully Coach Emboree and company have the plan in place to make the most of what talent they have.
In order to get better players into this program the Buffs have to put up some wins. Playing a pro style offensive or defensive football is not enough. Most young men that are being rated at the top of there recruiting class have options. Those options usually come in the form choices of where they want to play. An article at Buffzone.com and CUatthegame.com both talked about how we were losing the battle for the top instate recruits. Look at were they are going to play? Auburn, Oregon, Nebraska, and Washington. Other than Washington, I am sure part of their sales pitch is, "Wouldn't you like to play for a National Championship? Come to xyz and you have that chance."
I think first and foremost, talent evaluation. Looking at high school player and fore casting what he can become is a special talent or maybe an art form. This staff is going to have to find the 3, 2, 1, and no star players that have great potential and bring them and develop them. Once that happens, then maybe players with more raw talent will give Colorado more of a serious look. A friend of mine from Texas said of Bobby Kennedy that recruiting Texas was more of a selection process than recruitment. A vast majority of the kids from Texas want to play at Texas so the wasn't much in the way of recruitment that other schools go through. Time will tell if that turns out to be true. The best cornerback in the NFL was a 3 star recruit on Rivals in 2004, Rarrelle Revis. Jimmy Smith first round pick, also 3 star out of High school. Hopefully Coach Emboree and company and get and develop a whole bunch of them.
My incoming impact freshman is going to be Juda Parker.
And my sleeper is going to be Rashad Hall.
So what's your thoughts?
60 days until opening day in Hawaii, I can't wait.
Happy 4th of July to all.
Go Buffs!!!
Austin Vincent, wide receiver added to the 2011 class.
According to Rivals.com, the Desoto Texas wide receiver and former Iowa Hawkeye commit has committed to play for the Buffs after visiting Boulder this weekend. Vincent's original commitment to Iowa was put hold for him to improve his test scores. Hopefully he has his academics in order now and that is why Coach Embree and Staff offered him.
Here is a link to video of Vincent's senor highlights on Youtube. Rivals has him as a 2 star prospect and Scout has him rated a 3.
